I cannot play with the bar. I tried to but I just cannot.
It's like me speed reading upside down with no side effects; not goign to happen.
Although I do lose my balance a few times since I play kinda fast and I get a bit confused. _________________

i only use the bar for fast poopy like the maxes, but in itg i use it all the time. it weird, because even if the same song was in both games, in ddr i'd be more comfortable without the bar, but if it were itg, i'd probably prefer the bar. |

Then I go back to raping whatever 6-8 footer I damn well want. It's my money, my game. |
if you can AA one of the hardest songs in the game without the bar, why do you play with it, so you need it for e.z. songs or something or are you going for a higher p.a.? _________________

Because it's more stable, consistent and more precise? The same reason every competitive ITG player uses it? _________________

However...
One could also argue the manual is only ADVISING that players not use the bar as a PRECAUTION against injury. By that logic, a lot of great freestyle moves (zomg extreme play motions!1) should be looked down upon for the same reason as bar-hugging.

Yeah seriously. As long as Konami tells us specifically not to hold or lean on the bar, they can't really be blamed/sued for any bar-related injuries. |

I once saw a guy who claims to have a metal plate at the top of his head do a head stand on the bar, and with his hands spin himself 360 degrees or 2Pi radians and stopped himself with his hands, did a hand stand and do a uneven bar type thing a jumped ceremoniously onto the ddr pad and I was OMG that's WEIRD!
Cool, like drool, but weird. _________________

I'm pretty sure everything on ITG that has been passed with the bar has been passed without it, with the exception of the songs almost no one has played yet, like VerTex^2.
It certainly does come in handy for 12s and 13s, though. |

He meant to say that in order to play competitively it's required, which is true. _________________

Well, I guess really it's what you're going for. In some instances ya kno I agree with it being like training wheels to some and then the get reliant on it and never let go, that's how I was up until about a month ago when my friend started playing without the bar. I wouldn't like hug it or nething ya know but I'd keep a hand, that's A hand as in 1, on the bar incase i fell or something. But now I only use the bar when I'm doin fast songs like Sakura or Max 300 (being that I'm only on standard). So some people may not know what's like to play without the bar because that have grown to think they need it. In another sense, say you're not playing very well because you're sick or something. I've played sick before and realized how it affected (effected) my balance and coordination. So maybe you're catching someone on a sick day lol. Dizzyness is always a factor though. I can do this song Sync almost the entire way though without looking at the screen, but I continuously spin. This spinning ofcourse makes me dizzy, so to keep up the show I hold the bar, again with 1 hand so as not to fall off or onto the other person. _________________

You do need the bar to play well (competitively). That's the whole point. _________________

What do you mean by flip? Front-flip? Back-flip? Go insane? I just don't understand why or how you'd go about doing a "flip" or start "flip"ping... |

I've never used the bar, but I also mostly play at home and I'm not a very athletic person. I'm about a 7-8 foot song player.
I understand if it's a tough song, but last week I totally yelled at a guy for using the bar for Love Love Sugar on heavy. I mean, if *I* can pass it, and I SUCK... lol.
He stopped hugging the bar. He failed. Then he waited for my turn and played against me. I pwned him on LLS and his friend on Kind Lady, then he totally pwnd me (well, they failed, but I jumped down to standard) on some MAD crazy song.
It's funny to watch guys show off because you're a chick. _________________

This might be true for high-level ITG songs, but for DDR it certainly isn't.
I find that at least for me, my PA takes a significant hit when I'm holding onto the bar (which I use only for 10s). I just don't have as much control over exactly where my feet are going.
I've actually never used the bar for ITG. But then again, I don't play anything above a 9-10 foot level, either. =\ _________________
