There are people all over the place that practically play Stepmania for a living, flaming each other to death over scores, posting videos, and bragging each other's ears off. I'm curious as to the timing window setup they use. I use ITG's default, although I'm sure that's not the "offical" setup. What windows are the standard for the guys that do nothing but play SM all day?

For my build of DDR, I use these timings:
Code:
JudgeWindowScale=1.000000
JudgeWindowBooSeconds=0.133333
JudgeWindowGoodSeconds=0.083333
JudgeWindowGreatSeconds=0.066667
JudgeWindowMarvelousSeconds=0.016667
JudgeWindowOKSeconds=0.250000
JudgeWindowPerfectSeconds=0.033333

For my build of ITG (seperate Stepmania install), I use these timings:
Code:
JudgeWindowScale=1.000000
JudgeWindowSecondsAttack=0.135000
JudgeWindowSecondsBoo=0.180000
JudgeWindowSecondsGood=0.135000
JudgeWindowSecondsGreat=0.102000
JudgeWindowSecondsMarvelous=0.021500
JudgeWindowSecondsMine=0.070000
JudgeWindowSecondsOK=0.320000
JudgeWindowSecondsPerfect=0.043000

Yes, I segregate my ITG and DDR song files into two different installs of Stepmania with appropriate themes and noteskins for each install. I seriously have OCD problems.

Happens to the best of us. That doesn't quite answer my question though, although it let me find out that I had the right ITG windows up as of now biggrin.gif .

The really creepy "hardcore Stepmania people" who actually brag about keyboard accomplishments and play keyboard-only simfiles are all supposed to use the default "4/4" if they want to compare scores -- meaning Judge 4, Life Difficulty 4, no manual changes to the timing settings.

These are the Stepmania timing window values unless you manually modify or replace the INI file:

JudgeWindowSecondsAttack=0.135000
JudgeWindowSecondsBoo=0.180000
JudgeWindowSecondsGood=0.135000
JudgeWindowSecondsGreat=0.090000
JudgeWindowSecondsMarvelous=0.022500
JudgeWindowSecondsMine=0.090000
JudgeWindowSecondsOK=0.250000
JudgeWindowSecondsPerfect=0.045000

These are always the same regardless of your Judge setting! The Judge setting controls the JudgeWindowScale, which all of the static timing windows are multiplied by in order to determine the actual timing windows. Judge 4, the default, is "neutral" in that its JudgeWindowScale is exactly 1, meaning the actual timing windows will be exactly like what you see in the INI files.

Here's how the timing windows are modified by the various Judge settings:

Judge1 = X 1.5
Judge2 = X 1.33
Judge3 = X 1.16
Judge4 = X 1
Judge5 = X 0.84
Judge6 = X 0.66
Judge7 = X 0.5
Judge8 = X 0.33
JUSTICE = X 0.2 (ouch)

So Judge1-3 make the timings wider/easier, and Judge5+ make the timings narrower/harder.

This seems like another opportunity to whore my chart.

Since my main goal with keyboard Stepmania is to price timing for the arcade, I use the DDR arcade timings (theory 2), which is in-between Stepmania's default Judge 5 and Judge 6.

You'll also note from the chart that it looks like RoXoR used a modified version of Stepmania's default Judge 4 for In The Groove.
