|
|
Okay, so the title's a bit vague, but I can't type a bazillion characters into the title of the thread.
I played ITG for the first time 2 nights ago, and loved it. I already know the stuff in the other thread "DDR player starting ITG" (meaning I know what the buttons do and all about the mods and such), but what I need here is different.
What I'm asking is 3 things.
1. A comparison as to songs from DDR to ITG. For example, you might say "if you liked A/B/C song in DDR, you'll probably also enjoy X/Y/Z song in ITG." Or perhaps something like "The following songs belong to X category in ITG."
2. A difficulty scale. By this, I mean in your own opinion, what the easiest/hardest 10s, 11s, 12s, and 13s are, and what is considered "average" or a "benchmark" for each of those three difficulties. This way, I can ease myself into the new difficulties. (This is not a discussion on ratings that should be higher/lower than what they were given; that's for another thread.) Once several of you have given your opinions, I can determine for myself what order I want to try to play the songs in.
3. I didn't try any really hard stuff; I didn't know what I could pass and what I couldn't. So I want to know what your guess is as to the hardest song(s) are that I could currently pass on an ITG based on my DDR skill level.
I can pass everything except PSMO on DDR (I can clear PSMH), and get at least a B; sometimes I'll get an A on Maxx Unlimited (and usually get an A on Max 300).
Either way,
As for what I've played on ITG? I couldn't play very many times (I had little money), but I can speak to the fact that I had played (and enjoyed) the following songs:
* Little Kitty Mine
* Da Roots
* Lemmings On The Run (next time I'm trying it with the mines on)
* Bumble Bee
* Life Of A Butterfly
* Lipstick Kiss
* Typical Tropical
* Clockwork Genesis (on Hard; it looks difficult on Expert)
* Land Of The Rising Sun
* Rom-eo & Juli8 (I wanted to play at least one song with a decent amount of hands; I chose this one)
Can anyone give me guidance? _________________

If you go into the sort menu, you can sort by Expert Difficulty (i believe...). The easier ones in each rating (9, 10, 11...), for the most part, seem to be listed first. Some of the 10s will be much easier than some of the DDR 10s, but on the other hand, some will be much MUCH harder.
10s - Queen of Light - pretty easy
- Mythology/Walking on Fire - pretty damn hard
11s - Utopia/Charlene/Clockwork Genesis - a good place to start
- Pandy(hard)/The Beginning - Tiring and rough
12s - Vertex/Energizer - Hard, but most peoples firsts from what I've seen
- HOTN/Bloodrush/Determinator - You have to be a freak of nature
As for the game in general, obviously some songs are quite a bit harder than DDR, but I'd say that mostly it's the technical aspect of the game that is different.
In DDR, the hardest songs (aka 10 footers) are all usually fast. On the other hand, ITG will take slower songs and throw in very complex step patterns (unlike your LDLDLDLDLD MAX300 patterns). In songs like Oasis, you're forced to do a stretch of holds with 16th notes weaved in, and as you keep doing the holds your body is forced to turn to a complete 180 with your left foot on the right arrow and vice versa. Many songs feature interesting steps like this that force you to get a bit more creative than your used to.
Hands and mines are an obvious change, but both are fairly easy to get used to... in some cases.
The songs... well not very much like DDR. You have some Erotic in there and even some Bambee. At first I didn't like it much, but it grows on you fast. Soon you'll be humming Smiley songs all damn day.
That's all I got. Hope it was helpful. |

A couple of things- Mythology is now an 11, and it's pretty psmo-like at the end, so you might have trouble with that. For easy 10's, D-Code is incredibly easy for a 10. You'll probably have a lot easier time with it compared to Queen of Light which's difficulty is new for someone coming over from DDR: hands and turns (though the turns can be bsed if you don't care about your score). 10's you might wanna stay away from on the first couple of stages are Disconnected Hyper, and Tension. You'll probably also find Oasis to be hard. For 11's you should try Utopia, Charlene, and Xuxa. |

Another easy 10 worth mentioning is VerTex hard. I think it was the first ITG 10 I passed. If you can handle a few mines and the speedup at the end (which is short enough to usually be able to BS your way through it), it's a cakewalk.
I definitely agree about Disconnected Hyper and Tension. Also, as far as ITG2 songs go, Know Your Enemy and Soapy Bubble are pretty tricky 10s. Twilight is also weird enough to possibly take a few tries to pass. D-Code and Agent Blatant are more at the easy end. |

I think we're missing my first question entirely. *lol*
Could I get a couple categorical comparisions for songs that are similar in style in each game?
For example, I like stuff like Waka Laka and Butterfly in DDR, and I think that's one of the reasons I like Little Kitty Mine and Da Roots so much.
Okay, maybe that was a kinda crappy example and probably not very accurate, but at least you get the point.
What kinds of comparisons can I get? _________________

I'd replace Energizer with !. I know a lot of people who consistently have trouble with Energizer but find ! to be a rediculously easy 12. And, from personal experience, I find HOTN to be more of a mid-level 12. I think Euphoria more deserves that higher spot.

Actually vengabandit adressed that with this:

It doesn't seem to help much, but its really the truth. You'd probably like Birdie (very Butterfly-ish), The Message, the Disconnecteds if you like the Paranoias, and Tell on Hard is a very DDR-ish song. |

If you like Naoki Underground songs in DDR (e.g., Insertion), you'll probably like My Life Is So Crazy and High.
If you like Spin The Disc, you might like songs like Wake Up and Ride The Bass.
If you like old school NMR songs (Keep on Movin', Celebrate Nite), then try Music Pleeze. |

^ That's the same artist as Little Kitty Mine, which is Ni Ni (not to be confused with Nina). Basically anything by Bambee or Ni Ni seems more or less to be bubble-gum pop.
Also, Kiss Me Red and Bubble Dancer (both by Crispy) also seem to fall into that same type of genre. |

So here's what I'm taking from all this so far, difficulty-wise. (All on Expert unless otherwise mentioned.) Some of this was also calculated from the average conclusions I could gather from the Songs That Should Be Different Difficulties thread.
10s/Easy: D-Code, Agent Blatant, VerTex [Hard], Spin Chicken, Bend Your Mind, Tribal Style, Temple Of Boom
10s/Average: Tension, One False Move, Hand Of Time, Anubis, Hillbilly Hardcore, Energizer [Hard], Hybrid
10s/Hard: Bouff, Walking On Fire, Oasis, Know Your Enemy, Soapy Bubble, Disconnected ~Hyper~, Sweet World, Remember December
11s/Easy: Utopia, Charlene, Clockwork Genesis, Xuxa, Infection, VerTex ^2 [Hard], Robotix
11s/Average: Destiny, The Beginning, Infection
11s/Hard: Monolith, July, Pandemonium [Hard], Hardcore Symphony, Mythology
12s/Easy: VerTex, Energizer, !
12s/Average: Go *60* Go, Delirium, Tell, Euphoria, Hardcore Of The North
12s/Hard: Bloodrush, Determinator
13s/Easy: Summer
13s/Average: VerTex ^2
13s/Hard: Pandemonium
Thanks for all your help so far, and yeah, I do like the cute stuff. I'm trying No Princess next time I get on an ITG machine.
I have edited this post.

Although you may not need more...
10s/Easy: Bend Your Mind, Zodiac
10s/Average: Hillbilly Hardcore, Energizer [Hard] Bouff, Hybrid
10s/Hard:
11s/Easy: Infection
11s/Average: Destiny
11s/Hard:
12s/Easy: I say Go*60*Go goes here ,
12s/Average:Delirium, Tell
12s/Hard: And Hardcore Of The North goes here
If you want the most hands, then play Bend Your Mind (Hard, or Expert).
And if you like ROM-eo and Juli8 (I know I do ), then you'll more than likely will like Spaceman (steps and song) _________________

Zodiac is a 9 now, folks.
I would tell you what's harder or easier, but many people believe my idea of hard vs. easy is totally wrong. ...well, I'll give some examples anyway.
I've also bolded things where I think people would disagree with me.
Easiest 10s: D-Code, Tribal Style, Spin Chicken
Easy 10s: Walking on Fire, Bend Your Mind, Temple of Boom
Moderate 10s: Energizer (hard), Oasis, Anubis
Hard 10s: Remember December, Know Your Enemy, Bouff
Hardest 10s: Tension, Disconnected Hyper, Sweet World
Easiest 11: The Beginning. If you can turn, this song is easier than anything.
Easy 11s: Xuxa, Robotix, Utopia, VerTex^2 (hard)
Moderate 11s: Clockwork Genesis, Charlene, Infection
Hard 11s: Monolith, July, Mythology
Hardest 11s: Destiny, Hardcore Symphony, Pandemonium (hard)
Easiest 12: VerTex is easy, and Euphoria is hard to score for crap, but it's not hard to pass.
Easy 12s: Go 60 Go, Energizer, !
Moderate 12s: Tell, Delirium, Hardcore of the North
Hard 12s: Bloodrush, Determinator
ANYWAY, in terms of song suggestions, if you like those songs...
(Format: Song you liked -> Similar song)
Da Roots -> Fleadh Uncut
Clockwork Genesis -> Tension
...that's all I can really think of.[/b] _________________

Vertex^2 is much harder than Pandemonium IMO, and it seems like most of the itg community at least agrees that it is harder, if not much.
Easiest 10's: Spin Chicken was really easy for me, Vertex hard, My Favourite Game I can actually FC, Anubis is easy except for the end 32nds, QoL is easy when you get used to hands, I found Walking on Fire to be easy, but whatever, and Temple of Boom expert was easy for me.
Hardest 10's: I haven't played all of them, but Disconnected Hyper and Tension are both very hard, that's all I can really think of right now.
Easiest 11's: Charlene (big emphasis on this one, I can get over 90% on it but can't get above 77% on a few 10's), Xuxa, Destiny (only a few hard runs in the beginning and end, everything else is straight forward and simple), and Utopia.
Hardest 11's: Pandemonium Hard is by far the hardest 11 for me, followed by The Beginning, which, despite it's low speed, is incredibly tiring due to the very long stream at the end, and all of the sixteenth crossovers. Mythology is also pretty hard, and after Mythology, Infection is really hard for me too, decent length runs at high speed with tons of tricky mines.
Easiest 12's: Vertex, easist by far for me, only one I've actually passed so far, with an 86% too, which is better than a lot of my 11 and 10 scores, and the next one that I come closest to passing is Delirium, though the run totally kills me.
Hardest 12's: Bloodrush first, hard runs with a deadly slowdown that's really hard to read, Determinator in second, the big 24th run is absolutely draining, and HOTN and Euphoria tie for me. I get closer to passing Euphoria, but my FA and all has always been much better in HOTN.
Easiest 13's: Summer and Pandy tie for me. Both are very hard for me, I get closer to passing pandy, but Summer is easier to FA for me by far because the steps actually really make sense to me, unlike pandemonium's.
Hardest 13: Vertex^2. By far. Just incredibly hard, especially without a cmod. Speedups, slowdowns, couple of fast hands, fast streams, 24ths or something around the middle, and that crazy jump stream section during part of the speed up, and near the end, which is absolutely insane.
Hope that helped. >_> |
