^ The fact remains that some people do suck and are, well, BEGINNERS! If you don;t need beginner mode then by all means don't play beginner mode, otherwise it's there for the people who do need it. _________________

wen my parents got me DDRMAX there WAS NO beginner mode, so i completed lesson mode, and suffered teh 4 footers on light.
but it didn't seem to be a waste of time to konami wen they put it on the 7th and 8th mixes.
It's a better money and advertising maker, but beginner mode will form bad habits. :/

I got into the game as an out-of-shape short fat white kid with no rhythm and I still started with Light songs. Getting better is all about setting goals, I wanted to beat Maxx Unlimited Light and I'd just play it over and over until I could finally pass it and I was pretty happy after beating it. Then eventually I wanted to pass Sakura Heavy, and then I wanted to pass So Deep, and now I'm trying to beat ITG 10s. If I had started on beginner, I may not be as good, who knows. Basically what I'm saying is that if I could start with Light, anyone could. I have absolutely no skills to begin with (still don't, except mad hand skills. Bend Your Mind 4tw). _________________

I started at light too but the reason beginner is there in my opinion is so that the newbs, little kids, etc can play as well giving the machine more playability to those who won't play the game enough to move up in the ranks. So in others words I think in the benefit of others I think it should stay that way. It doesn't seem to bug people that much that never play it anyway. |

Hey
I didnt read all the pages in this topic, but I read the first and last pages so I am sorry if this has already been said.
I think that Beginner mode is good when you are first starting. It gives you a basic idea on how to play without being too hard. I only did beginner for 2 weeks (I started DDR when I was away and when I got back home, they had DDRMax2 and the lowest is Light) and then had no choice but to go to Light.
As DJ Vang said, it gives the machine more playability to little kids and new people also. A lot of little kids may become discouraged playing Light unless the are playing some song like The Reflex.
Thats just my 2c worth... _________________

Opinion Time
Beginner Mode, A waste of Time?
Why beginner mode anyway? When I first started playing, I started on Light mode. Of course, there was no beginner mode at the time. Alot of people started on light mode and progressed from there. Beginner mode just slows you down. There are alot of really easy light steps equivalent to beginner steps (After the Game ).
So I end my statement with this: Why bother to play beginner mode when you can just start with light? It's best to strive to become the best, so start with a tiny bit of challenge at least. Start with something a tiny bit difficult and you will progress alot faster. _________________

OK here is an example of why beginner mode exists.
My mom is mildly arthritic, full of metal (screws, plates, w/e), not to mention overweight (sorry mom). The thing is that she really likes the music + the concept of the game. If she was forced to only play on light she wouldn't be able to move/react quickly enough and soon get tried of the game and quit, but with beginner mode she is able to play and enjoy the game periodically.
Beginner mode is there for people not as agile, youthful, limber, or resiliant enough to pull off the songs with harder difficulties, even when it comes to songs that are only 4 or 5 feet.
EDIT: Also, I hate to sound like an a$$hole, but there are probably mentally challenged people who couldn't comprehend anything beyond beginner mode.
So as I have said in the past: if you don't need it, then f*cking ignore it. It's not like you have to go around being a dick because it's too easy for you. _________________

I think the beginner is fine only for the arcade machines...... I've seen people get on these machines and they have absolutely no idea what to do. It's sad and frustrating just to watch.... But for the home versions I would say that beginners mode is completely pointless. It's not a good way to prepare for the greater challenges because of its simplicity, and besides there is lesson mode. |

It is a waste, the arrows barely go with the music or beat. When I started, I played until I could pass ecstasy! and I liked it! |

Yeah, when there's only ~1 arrow per measure, it's pretty hard to have steps that follow the music. My mom thinks the steps for all the songs are "completely random". I told her it's because she tried beginner mode, but I think she believes the other modes are equally random. Beginner mode may be good for those who just happen to have a really hard time with playing DDR, or for those who physically can't play other mdoes, but IMO, it's a waste of time if you want to make a lot of progress and not learn bad habits. |

Yea.... the first time i played a few years ago i played on beginner's mode x.x
But I guess I'm retarded >.>
Seriously though, I don't see what's wrong with them including the Beginner's mode. I mean, FFS the default is set on light anyways, so what's wrong with them adding whatever they want?
And yea btw I've seen people "fail" max unlimited on beginner's mode.... |

I don't think the implication is that it should be removed from the game, just that it is worthless. _________________

Agreed. It gets extremely frustrating watching people that have 100% no idea what so ever, and Im a real short tempered person and I cant help myself but stand there yelling and screaming how to play lol. _________________

You wanna know what's a waste of time? "Easy" on Mario Mix. There aren't even any up or down arrows, and Mush Mode isn't selectable.
EDIT: Sorry for the bump. This topic was linked by another one, and I got them mixed up. _________________

I moved from Beginner to Light really fast because it was too easy for me. I think it is sort of pointless because of the dancer and such. _________________
