Hey i made a wooden platform and bar mod for my afterburner, although it would work with other pads. But anyway, i made some instructions and took pictures for those who care to look, here is a link to my site where i have the instructions and pictures. Hope someone gets use out of it since i made that site in like 10 minutes for fun.... while i was at it i figured ide put something semi useful on there.

Hey Natural Killer, Did you use my design or did you build that all on your own? Also, i noticed you put your bar behind the pad, isnt that to far away, it seems you would have to lean pretty far back to hold it making the up arrow harder to hit. I know it sucks for me having a longer bar, but i like having a bar that i dont have to lean way back for.

Also, Akira, If you are talking about the top of his bar, it looks just like orange tape.... If you are talking about the metal part behind the pad, that is just an extra part of the pad that red octane puts on there to fit their logo on, and the only reason his looks gold is because its reflecting the orange from the orange tape he has on his bar.

Natural Killer, i like how black looks, i was debating on what color i should paint mine. I like how yours looks so i think im gunna go with that. Thanks for helping me make a discision. thumb.gif

lol ddr_mastor is right...it isn't a gold bar (although that would be pretty cool) it just came out looking gold because of the crappy lighting in my basement.

And yes, I did basically copy your design. Sorry riiight.gif After looking at your webpage a while back I thought it was a really cool idea since I am a full-fledged bar raper. I left you a comment in your guestbook but you probably didn't get it.

Anyway, yea at first I thought the bar would be too far back, but being 6'1" helps and I have very long legs so it isn't a problem at all for me to reach the up arrow now. I was having trouble at first making the bar sturdy enough for use, so I used bolts going up through the bottom and it seemed to help a bunch.

Yes, I also love the black, I think it looks hot, and the bar is spray painted metallic silver although it may be hard to see in the picture. I put some foam insulation stuff over the crossbar and then covered that in orange electrical tape. Orange was just a random color I like, it sorta looks silly but I still like it. Anyway, thanks for the feedback and once again thanks ddr_mastor for making your website since I completely ripped off your idea E4.gif

Dude im sorry if it sounded like i was accusing you of copying me lol. i was just wondering if you used my design or if we randomly made the same thing lol. Anyway, i put that up for everyone to use so you didnt rip off my idea. Go ahead and use it. My black tape is comming off on my bar, i think im gunna go with some new color to make it look sexy. Then im prolly going to put some white primer on my wood part, and then put a glosy black or glosy dark shiny blue on top of that. I think it will look really slick.

My other idea was to put diamond plate over the wood, but im a little lazy for that.

Were you troy? kuz i wanted to see the pictures you were talking about in the comment you left on my site, but you never IMed me.... ill see if i can IM you, as soon as im done writing this post.

::edit:: turns out you dont have an AIM thing on your DDRfreak profile

Well I'll just put a batch of pictures up here then:

Finished- http://public.fotki.com/NaturalKiller/random/100_4343.html
Another view- http://public.fotki.com/NaturalKiller/random/anotherview.html
Bar foam- http://public.fotki.com/NaturalKiller/random/bar.html
Bar tape- http://public.fotki.com/NaturalKiller/random/bartape.html
Bar base- http://public.fotki.com/NaturalKiller/random/100_4422.html
This picture is of the L brackets that I used to keep the 2x4 in place since I was having trouble keeping the bar sturdy- http://public.fotki.com/NaturalKiller/random/100_4423.html
Frontal view to show thickness- http://public.fotki.com/NaturalKiller/random/100_4424.html

There ya go, feel free to use them on ur webpage or whatever. Anybody else that is thinking about making this...I highly recommend it. The pad doesn't move at all making the play experience much more enjoyable.

Guys, how much are you spending on these platforms? I run the DDR class at my school and I'm trying to convince the school to buy Cobalt Fluxes, these would be nifty as well...

Wood= about 15-20 for mine but i used cheap particle board which works brilliantly

2x4s= real cheap...only like 4-5 bucks total

Piping= main cost...probably around 30ish i think

Then you have the corner pipes and the bases which were a couple bucks each..= no more than 10 bucks i think

After that the only other cost is paint if ur gonna paint it..or if you want padding for the bar (which is real cheap)

Basically it can cost as much or as little as you want it to..depending on how good you want the quality to be.

once school starts, in like 2 weeks i am going to try and convince a couple ppl to get a DDR class starting, i am getting 2 CF's and i read that a kid got the school to get 2 Red Octanes so i was thinking 2 groups pros (me and like 3 other kids and new kids playing on the RO's and start spliting ppl up that way) if it works out maybe we could have in school tornaments, i have family members in other schools maybe i can go spread the DDR gospel and make it a multi school thing

p.s. my school has the graduating class of about 80 kids, on the way east end of long island, NY

on topic, defiatly i am going to be making 2 for my doubles CF, i May have to do mods so i can link the 2 cf's together, DOUBLES WILL ROCK WITH THAT SETUP!!!!! biggrin.gif

holy crap dude... my graduating class is over 500... freshman, sophomores, junior, and seniors. All the classes are close to or over 500.

80... holy shi!t that is small. must be awesome, or not, i guess it could go either way.

yeah it's nice out here, so quiet and most of the ppl are nice here, basically I live in a town were everybody knows everyone and knows everyone elses bussiness (about the only bad part except for the closest arcade being about 1.5 hours away)

once i get my CF's i may work on somthing like that,

**wonders to self how it would look like to have 2 Cf's linked together with bars on each drool.gif**

i cant even imagine quad mode on ultramix and having 4 of those bad boys set up laugh.gif take up my whole living room laugh.gif
