Yeah, like cost: 150 for keyboard size. It must be at lesat 400-500 for a DDR sized projection mechanism, sensor, and it might even be necessary for a second-rear projection for accuracy... raising that even more!
Also, how would you know if you're on the buttons or not? I use the edges of the pad to "feel" if I'm in the right spot or not, but with this one, you're forced to look down, possibly lowering your score.
People with carpeting would not be able to use it! |

it was just a thought...anyway, I think the main source of cost for the projector is the accuracy required for a laser keyboard (being able to detect motion within less than a square inch)...you may disagree about this, but I think the accuracy required for a laser DDR pad would be less, since an arrow is about a square foot in size...
but price aside, it would be much more durable and portable than a physical pad, and it might be possible to improve the technology to make it usable on carpet, and from there onto virtually any reasonably flat surface, indoors or outdoors... |

it looks so useless. Who would buy a pad/keyboard for $100-$500 because it is a laser!!!??? People could just buy a normal pad for much more less. |

The purpose of this is for things like PDAs/Palm Pilots/whatever else you want to call them. It's supposed to be a very portable keyboard that can be used for input instead of writing with the stylus. There are other portable keyboards, but they make you type with your thumbs or they have to be folded up when you're done. Personally, I think it's kinda nifty, but too expensive and I don't know if I'd like the feeling of typing on a virtual keyboard. |
