I personally think that 90% of the fun that comes from Popn is because you're slapping buttons the size of your hand. Alot of the songs in the earlier versions aren't exactly the best songs ever (the songs now are great), but they were still fun because you were slamming the hell out of these huge buttons Id only get the small controller for playing on the road.
Since you're one of the lucky ones goto the arcade and find out if you like the game before spending the money on an ASC. _________________

The small controller is....okay I guess, definitely better than a IIDX controller or DualShock. It's great for casual playing or just starting out, like before you get serious with the game. The buttons stick until you use them a bit, then they're absolutely perfect.
And you should be lucky you even have stores that sell it...what I'd give for that...
As for me, I'm on a IIDX binge now that I have a controller again. XD _________________

Sure, if you really hate well-made, functional controllers that respond your your button presses accurately and don't break within 3 months. If that sounds like a description for most horrible controller ever, then I guess the small green Pop 'n' controller is WAY better than the Konami IIDX controller. _________________

you live 15 miles from a pop'n machine and you're too LAZY????? I should slap you right now for taking a blessing like that for granted. do you even know how many pop'n machines exist in the U.S.? im guessing 10, maybe 15 at the most... geez...... _________________

I mean playing Pop'n Music. I'd rather play on a Konami small controller than a IIDX controller for that. Unless you actually LIKE using a scratch pad for two of the buttons. Your call, dear. _________________

Ok.. I looked again on mapquest and it was only 7 miles.. :X
So yea.. I ended up going and they have 12.
I'm still a little confused over the "enjoy, challenge, expert" selection. .and there was another.. I forget now.. but I played "enjoy" which has the difficulty in birds instead of numbers.. and I ended up beating the hardest in that mode.. so now I'm just trying to figure out where to go if I want to play where I can choose any song and it's difficulty (normal, hyper, expert) and have all the mods and stuff.. and no where I go has any information on pnm12.. in english anyways. (but through pictures I think I have to go to challenge mode)
I played 9 button to start out.. but maybe sometime I'll try 5. I fell inlove with the game and I plan on getting it soon.
Infact.. I'm going back today to play some more.. and maybe tomorrow.. and the day after... |

Now that's the spirit! And...I would be interested on how Pop'n Music machines work, I've noticed they're rather different than the CS versions. Playing on normal, I couldn't change to Hyper or EX, and I didn't try Challenge yet. Do you have to play on challenge to change difficulties or something? _________________

I'm no AC Pop'n expert, having never laid eyes on a machine, but I think the trick to change difficulties is to press both yellow buttons simultaneously on the song select screen. This works on the CS versions as well, but isn't immediately obvious. |

I found the AC versions really different and really confusing in Japan. I ended having to do challenge mode to get back to what I was used to.
Challenge mode is not any different from the regular mode at home but you can select options to make the song harder. _________________

Nope, you can chose to leave all Norma/Ojama (I think they're only called Ojama in Best Hits, for some reason) mods off in Challange mode. |

Ha, I went and played today and figured everything out... Now I just wish there was more time to look through the song list seeing as every freakin' song ever is on that machine.. haha.. but I found Absolute Guitar Mix and all the Classics, so I was ok. I just got to 19-20's today and almost passed a 23.. if I speed it up more I might be able to do it.
Anyways, what would be a good mix to get for ps2? Should I get the pnm10 with mini controller, should I wait until I can get an Arcade Style controller and just play 5 button with my IIDX controller? |

If you want to get 10, go right ahead. Fair warning: to unlock stuff, you have to play 3 slot roulette after each arcade game. You have to match japanese phrases in order to unlock 1 thing (be it option, character, song, etc). Here's the catch, the wheel is too f'n fast. You end up hitting the red button rapidly to try to unlock something. And if you don't match, you'll get jack (and I'm not talking about the rabbit or the F-bomb song on this version). I have heard (but unconfirmed) that if you turn the unlock system off (the first Japanese option in the options menu), you unlock certain items depending on how long you play (though the source says that the first Unlock, Options, are unlocked at 4 SONG hours and that source is Xythar from Gamefaqs). I just want to know that if this is true, does playing in Free Mode with Unlock System off contribute to the timer?
I can't vouch for any other controller except for an ASC.

Every pop'n CS game as far as i know allows for time unlocks if you turn off their unlock game. I can't really vouch for this as i always just play their games anyway, but i've seen several people talk about how its worked for them, so....
in pop'n 10 you turn off the only option thats written with kanji, the first in the series of japanese options. also, i think time is only counted during song play, during arcade mode. so you can't play in free mode to get unlocks _________________

Hi. I hope this is the place for these questions, i was waiting 'till bms came back to post them there, but i'm getting impatient
Anyway, two things:
One: Does anyone happen to have the directions for making an ASC (with those wico buttons) from a Konami Small controller? I know they were hosted in the pomu forum at bms, but i obviously can't get there now :\
Two: wtf does pop'n mail do, in Pomu 11? I keep getting it almost everytime i clear a song, and i havn't the foggiest idea what it says. My guess would be that it says "hey you unlocked a song, gg" but the mail is really long. Also, i can't seem to find a translation guide, so if you know where one is, that would be helpful too.
Thanks |
