When? Let's see...2002 because of curiosity...but that was only one song...then in 2003, one of my friends forced me to play it at lunchtime once and then I got hooked on it. Why do I play it now? I dunno, cause I find it fun and cause it's how I met my gf. XD Yeah...last time I considered quitting, everyone was against it so I just kinda kept going :\ |

* When did you first start playing DDR? Febuary 2003
* What got you to start playing? I saw pump it up at a local arcade and i thought it was the same as DDR (n00b) anyway, so i asked for it for christmas and didnt get it. A girlfriend at the time got me a G-Unit hoodie, it was defective so we took it back and she asked what i wanted, and she got me DDR. kind of a drastic change from G-Unit to DDR....
* What made you keep playing? Ummm probably because of ITG, DDR gets old once you beat every song in the game, and most songs are short and kind of stupid, so a new game like ITG or PIU or even a new DDR mix always keeps things fresh and offers new challenges. _________________

sadly enough my girlfriend played DDR and i was too nice to say "you nerd im not playing" turned out i was wrong. I played once, sucked horribly, and couldn't stop playing!
I kept playing because it turned out i was a quick learner and was owning peps in the arcades in about 6 months.
I started with love and kept goin wit fame... how deep... (no im not gay) _________________

hmmm.... *hops into his ddr time machine*
sadly enough, i was one of those little kids who people hated when they jumped on the pad next to you (ironic now isnt it?)
it was my 8th b-day (dont remember where i went for the party but they had ddr). my older cousin was playing ddr and being the young heckler that i was, i tried to mess her up. when she was done she told me to try. so i did. tried Boom Boom Dollar (it was 2nd mix i think, not the K.O.G), sucked badly , played again, and around 4 dollars later, finally passed it.
around a month after i started playing (frequent arcade visits to my local Golfland) i started playing standard most of the time and some songs heavy if i can do them. another month after that i started getting catas down, and the rest is history.
i guess i keep playing because if i didnt i would have stayed a heckler and probably increased my chances of getting beat down in my local arcade. that and i found its a pretty good way of meeting people _________________

saw the machines in the arcades. thought they were kinda weird (always saw people sweating in arcades with their friends or girl friends sitting back and watching, always found it a bit unattractive).
but i think it was freshman year mid fall 2003, went to cousins house. i played it for a bit and end of story, BAM instant fan. |

Yea... you'd think with DDR out for like 5 years already there would be no more beginners.... well, I am one of those true beginners. My mom bought a hard plastic pad back from China 2 years ago, but, like all cheap Chinese products, it broke within a week. Not soon after that, I went to college, so I never had a chance to buy another pad and dance again. This year, though, I'll be enrolled as a commute student so I'll get to live at home. After some research, we (our whole family plays DDR now ^^) decided to buy the RedOctane Afterburner Metal Pad.
But anyways, as you can see, I have only been playing DDR for 3 weeks, 4 if you count that one week of playing on that plastic hard pad. I just started doing heavy songs about 10 days ago, and I think I am making a OK progress. Of course not like AAA on Max 300 or something, but for someone who's played less than a month, I have made AA on kind lady, the 2 versions of silent hill, and I just A'd Jet World. Right now, I usually get As and Bs on 7 foot, Bs and Cs on most 8 foot, and C, D, and F on 9 (BS on most parts that I do pass though). The only 10 foot I can pass is Bag with 3x speed cheating and get a C, otherwise I can't even do standard.
Yea, my DDR skill is pretty laughable at this point (if they are even decent enough to be called skills) but hey I'm just a noob trying his best. =O |

Maybe it won't interest someone.....but i don't care :
When did you first start playing DDR? 2000....i was in a mall with my parents and then, i see some guys playing on the Dreamcast version of DDR... then,i begged (sorry for my bad english) my parents for 1$ to play this game...Then,i played, and i really sucked (I got a D on something like a 1 footer...i don't remember) and the guy got something like a SS (i think is AA or something) I was very proud when i was child and i couldn't accept that he beats me. So,i ask for an another 1$,and another......i couldn't stop. Then,i got to leave. The next time i played was at my 12 years old birthday. I went into the arcade and i saw Max2...i couldn't resist....i played for at least 10$. I really sucked because i was choosing songs by their BPM and not by their difficulty..........so i started with something like "Drifting Away" cause it has a normal Trance song BPM (130-140 BPM)... And from there, i started to play once a month because the arcade was at something like 210 KM...then,last year,i got UM2...and from there,i really improved my abilities.
What got you to start playing? I'm a Trance Addict....and there was a lot of trance songs......here's a reason. The other one is that i was finding a way to do exercise while playing video games (i was a VG Addict when i was young). Then,my parents could leave me alone without complaining.
What made you keep playing?
Now:
Trying new challenges
Public
Showing my abilities
Girls saying "OMG!!!!!!!!" when i do a FC on Holic(it happened to me only once )
Techno Music, Hardcore Music, Trance Music
MaXX (i love that song!!!!!!!!!!)
Keep me in shape
Doing something else than composing music
thanks for reading this^^ _________________

I started playing DDR when my friends bought Max2 for PS2. The giant robot in the video for D2R mesmerized me and I couldn't believe how much Twilight Zone sounded like the Mortal Kombat song. I decided I would need to get the game for myself, but I couldn't find it anywhere, so instead I bought a madcatz soft dance pad and the winter jampack disc with the DDRMax2 demo. So I got really really good at the 4 songs on the demo on light mode. I ordered DDRMAX about two weeks later, and then I found MAX2 several months later at my local independant game retailer. I was lucky enough to get the last copy. That's how I got started...... I probably dragged that out a little longer than necessary. Sorry. |

Let's see....
A year or two ago, 2003. Me and my family went to Ocean City for vacation. We had walked around the boardwalk and I found a DDR machine. I tried it once, and found it extremely addicting.
since I love music anyway (always have a pair of headphones on, attached to cd player/iPod), I figured this would be something interesting.
i failed the first time, but I bought a DDR game and pad soon after. I haven't really stopped playing, since.
Well...except to eat, sleep, and post this, here. >.> |

To this day, Im still playing 321stars on Light at my house. HAha pathetic |
Glad to hear that you changed your point of view after playing. Proof that one should always try something before spurning it. |

When did you first start playing DDR? I played my first set about 3 years ago when they used to have an old 4th mix in the towson towne mall, but i've just gotten into it seriously like 3 or 4 months ago.
What got you to start playing? As I was walking around in the mall, I saw the machine in the back of the virtual fun arcade and thought it would be fun, so I gave it a try and have loved it ever since. UNfortunately the 4th mix movedas did the arcade . But I still remember the good ol' songs like one two and kick the can and pink dinosaur and walkie talkie.
What made you keep playing? I love how challenging it is and it is so fun to play, it always seems to take my mind off of everything so i can just play and have a ton of fun, even if im mad or in a bad mood. _________________

Haven't posted on DDRFreak in a while ... but this caught my eye (and surprised me that I hadn't posted on it earlier hehe).
::cheese DDR voice:: HERE WE GO!
When did you first start playing DDR? (and how long have you been playing)
The very first time I ever played DDR was on July 28, 2000 on a DDR 1.5 mix. I was at Camelot Park in Anaheim for a friend's birthday party. My curiousity in DDR was already somewhat hightened by the fact that my boyfriend and my bro (at the time) both played the game, and suggested that I try it. So I did. So ... I've basically been playing this game for over 5 years now.
What got you to start playing? (initial interest)
I believe it was the music. Before I actually played on an arcade machine, my brother (during winter break '99) brought home some bootleg DDR programs for our computer (his friend got them from Taiwan). I would play them, and the songs on there were very catchy (Boom Boom Dollar, Butterfly, Brilliant 2 U, etc.) ... so I'd always want to play the games just to listen to the music.
What made you keep playing? (why do you like playing currently)
I don't play as often as I did when I first started, but I do still play (thanks to my job in an arcade, I always have access to a machine). I keep playing for the fun of it. I'm not a tech player ... I don't play for scores or trying to challenge myself by getting more perfects or whatever. Heck ... I barely play for the exercise of it (though it does help). I play for fun ... because it's a fun game to play. I think I appreciate the game a lot more NOW because I don't play it as often. Yet, when I do, it's always fun. I'm more a freestyler as well, so I try to practice new routines/performances and such on the pad to have fun, and improve my dancing techniques (whatever I've learned so far, plus more ).
L8z y'all!

I first started playing DDR about 4 months ago (May '05). My cousins had Max and Extreme at their house, and every time I went there, I sat around while everyone else played it. It looked kinda boring, and I just knew I'd suck at it, so I didn't try it. One time, though, they convinced me to play and I tried Kick the Can on beginner. I was pretty bad. I still didn't like the game any better than I had before. However, my sister liked it a lot, and so my dad bought Extreme and an Ignition pad. The first day we got it, I decided to give it another try. I played a song on light (don't remember which one). I got a B and was instantly hooked. The next day I tried standard and three days later started heavy. Since then, I've played every day I've had the chance.
I keep playing for the challenge. There's always a higher level of playing to shoot for. |

I started my groove into DDR two months ago...me my sister, and my younger cousin were at the mall, and we had just got done with lunch...then my sis informed me that she and my cousin were going to play DDR Extreme in the arcade, and if I wanted to watch (since my legs are very weak from a disability, I can't use a dance pad)
So one trip to the arcade, some coins and a race to the DDR machine later, my cousin challenged my sis to play...so after the two of them agreed on "Butterfly" as the song for the challenge. It ultimately came out a tie, I was mesmerized by the music more than the stomping and jumping, so I looked up as much DDR music as I could.
...and then I discovered StepMania....
Now I could play DDR too, and using my fingers, no less. I can already do a full combo on "Nori Nori Nori" _________________
