I myself like the skins in ITG, there fab and shveek, I've noticed though that since the skins are different colors is it possibly to sort of have a harder time with ddr after playing ITG alot? I know that ITG improves PA which means that your sight reading skills shouldn't be any different, but i find it for me that sight reading is alot easier in ITG opposed to DDR, I think It's because the mods have alot more effect then they do in ddr, for example in ddr whenever i put a song on x2 sight reading would be easier, but opposed to ITG when I put a song on x2 sight reading is ALOT easier much easier then x2 in DDR. The skins are what get me sort of confused switching on and off you know I preffer ITG's skins more then DDR skins, how about yourself?
EDIT: p.s. first time posting in ITG forum, w00t go me! riiight.gif

Yeah, I'm a purely visual player and I am a speeder.

ITG: 600+bpm no problem.
DDR: 400/450bpm maximum.

Yeah, wtf. =/

I play DDR at about 400-450, what speed should I be able to play ITG at. The closest ITG machine is in NJ I'm in PA. That sucks.

I don't know. I use the bar and that's what I feel comfortable with on ITG.

I find the background on DDR to be brighter/more distracting. That's just me though.

A few friends of mine and I had a discussion about this, concerning speedmods and such, and our conclusion was this: When you play ITG, a higher number of arrows are visible at the screen, compared to DDR, both because of the size of the arrows, and in some cases the incoming view. I'm not sure whether this is correct or not, but to me it seems reasonable. E1.gif

I've noticed that too. I play most of my songs on ITG with x2.5 or x3, as opposed to DDR with x1.5 or x.2. What i think it is, is the display screen. In ITGs, it feels alot bigger so you can see the arrows earlier, the arrows are alot higher and the arrows are also smaller. DDR, though, has wider more bulkier arrows and don't have such a huge screen. That's what i think it is... but otherwise i completly agree.

the flashing arrows in ddr are much more prominent (distracting) than in itg..

plus, the overall tone/theme of itg is also much more subdued and melancholic -- that is, not overly saturated with color like ddr. which is easier on the eyes of the older folks who don't necessarily find the bling bling as appealing as the youngins..

i am one. though, i'm just a caliber at the mediocre level=]

but i'd imagine it may be just as difficult for a player to go from ddr -> itg..

I don't know. Sometimes I see it the otherway around too, so I don't think the case is that common as you think.

Eh.. I'm still getting used to Hard Mode on ITG. But I am a Heavy player on DDR, and is currently working on clearing some 9 footers with at least a B.

I've never noticed about the arrows being smaller or taller in ITG though, but now that I think of it.. yeah. Not that much flashing colours either, I can see the arrows much clearer in ITG than DDR. The "Hallway" option puts more arrows on the screen too.

But both the speed mods in ITG and DDR seem the same. Don't they just multiply by the number that you choose? 300 x 1.5 or 300 x 2 or 300 x 2.5 Aren't they the same in both games?

I wouldn't be suprised if FPS or even pixel depth is an issue.

well no because there is no x2.5 in ddr, so the mods are still a little bit different, there must be some distinct way of telling, im not sure how though

It's true, I play like ~320ish BPM in DDR but I can play ~500 on ITG.

its definatly a FPS issue as well. When i play ITG on my TV, its like marbles rolling on a sheet of glass. When i play DDR or Stepmania even, I cant go nearly as fast with the speed mods and it takes a few songs to get used to reading the noteskins again.

On ITG, I can barely read 600 BPM. (VerTex, 1x)
On DDR, I can't quite read 500 BPM. (LoM extra stage)
However, it doesn't really matter, because I'm more comfortable with a specific spacing than a specific speed. I tend to play 1x on anything fairly simple, 1.5x on anything with long complex 1/16th runs, and 2x on the rare song that still confuses me on 1x. These rules apply whether a song is 30 BPM or 300. It's more about the notes themselves than the tempo.

Also, the noteskin on ITG makes things so much easier to read. It took me a long time to learn to see the difference between 1/8th notes and gallops in DDR, and the difference between triplets and 1/16ths still gets me sometimes. On the other hand, ITG's noteskin makes it easy to tell what's a quarter, 1/8th, 1/16th, triplet... and even 1/32nds and 1/64ths are quite visibly obvious.

From my own observations...

DDR "vivid" arrows (3rd mix and beyond) never have a distinct color unless one specifically uses the Solo arrow modification (which also requires a DDR machine version that actually has that modification). Otherwise, the aqua and purplish colors of the eighth and sixteenth arrows are always somewhat obscured by some other "overlay" color up until just before the arrow reaches the target zone.

In contrast, ITG's default Metal arrow scheme--and even the Cell arrow scheme--still has a very distinct color scheme for the beat subdivisions: the red is always red, the blue is always blue, the yellowish arrows are always yellowish, and the purple is always purple... and those colors are never overlayed by another obscuring color (except for possibly the Vivid arrow scheme introduce in ITG2).

From there, it also becomes a matter of arrow spacing. For me, certain songs--especially those with sixteenth note figures, often look jammed up at 1x speed, both for ITG and DDR, so I tend to use 1x only for songs above 180 bpm that have no sixteenths, 1.5x for songs between 100bpm and 180bpm that have sixteenth figures, and 2x for songs below 100bpm that have sixteenth figures. Any faster than 2x, though, and I'm playing by reflex and unable to read ahead to see the "step phrasing" and anticipate the step combinations.

Plus, when I play ITG, I also use Hallway instead of Overhead, which I find seems to scroll a bit slower than overhead mode, so a combination of 1.5x/Hallway/Metal for most songs that don't have sudden slowdown sections with sixteenth figures is quite reasonable for sightreading (but then again, I'm not playing above level 9 on ITG).

However, another oddity I find is that I am terrible at reading 1x on DDR Extreme machines, however, with a few exceptions (Orion 78 for example), I can read 1x just fine when I revert to playing DDR Konamix at home, which has a much lower framerate when compared to DDR Extreme. I don't understand it, but I still play 1x better on that older home DDR version even using type 1 arrows instead of type 2 arrows, and even without using Solo mode.
