Upon seeing 2 men battle it out on a DDR Extreme machine on the Santa Monica Pier here in Los Angeles for the first time, I knew right then that a documentary about this amazing craze/sport was necessary.
I am a Director/Producer with over 10 years of experience and am currently in pre-production on this project. I am looking for 6-8 DDR fanatics all over the world to document. From the person who is in heavy training mode for an upcoming competition, to the defending champion and several others in between.
If you think you have the right story to tell, please email me and we can talk further.

As for validity, upon locating the subjects I am looking to shoot, I will then share with them my background and experience and any referrals they may requre. I do not however want to put myself out in the open, unprotected. I am sure you can understand the importance of privacy.

This reminds me of that guy that said he was doing an article on DDR and wanted stories from people a while back... and was never to be heard from again...
Anyways, are you just looking for peoples' input or will you actually be flying all over the world to tape people?

I am sure there are more people than you can imagine that have said they were going to do something within the world of DDR and never followed through on it.
The funding for this project has already been raised and we will be shooting all over the world. What makes this topic so interesting is that its a global craze, not just here in the US.
I am not asking for people to divulge their life story to me in an email. All I ask is if you think you are subject-worthy, please email and we can talk further, either in person if you are in Los Angeles or over the phone. At that time, I will also provide my background. |

I did a quick background check and it looks like you are legit, Harvey. Just letting everyone know because we have a lot of people who come through here saying they will do something and never follow through.
If you are looking for people in the NY area, I can get you in contact with the right people. We have a thriving community in the city. Plus, there will be a fairly large tournament in October at the Jacob Javits Center, where people from all over should be in attendance.

Thank you for the post. Not looking to mislead anyone or mess with them. As I have said, this is a REAL project.
The October competition is too close for us to shoot unfortunately, but finding a subject in NYC is definitely of interest.
Is there one big competition that all DDR competitiors know about and attend? A competition for a big money prize or something along those lines.

That is a shame. Unfortunately, large competitions these days are hard to come by for DDR. The one in October has a grand prize of 2000$ and many other prizes. How long is your project going to last exactly?

Harley, you're from LA? Have you seen the Dance Dance Documentary done by a film group at USC? It's very well done and portrays the Southern California DDR community well. I would suggest looking at that to get some ideas.
