While most of the naysayers are being unecessarily rude about it, they are right; DDR is not a professional sport, so there is no establishment on which you could do DDR for a living. Feel free to try and create such a thing, but you would need money, and probably a lot of it, to support the idea, so you'd end up having to find a job anyway.

Flaming; it's not necessary, and it doesn't do anyone any good, so don't do it.

While I agree there's no way to be a proffessional DDR player NOW, why wouldn't it be possible to get some wheels moving and get the sport out there?

On a side note for this, if anyone says it's not possible or that there isn't a crowd for it out there , I can beat that argument in three words:

Proffesional Poker Players.

I mean, there's people here trying to organize DDR for intercollegiate tournaments. Although they wouldn't be official college athletics, if we could get something started at the college level, there's always a possibility that it could build up, especially if we get some freestylers out there to compete.

If you're wondering, I really think this is possible, but it might take years to pull together, so we need some wheels turning now.

People are becoming proffesional players on other video games, so why can't DDR reach that level?

Okay, aside from the obvious fact that most of the people supporting DDR "as a living" seem to be mentally crippled, let's do a little math.

The NYC DDR Championships offer a grand prize of $2000 dollars. That's by far the most elegant prize that's going to be offered this year for DDR, maybe the highest prize ever.

Let's look at some of the prizes being offered at recent tournaments (these are all from posts):
COTC3 offered a 60-30-10 split of their $250 dollar pot. That's $150...for first place. How does living in your car sound?
The Midland Texas Tournament offers 25% of their pot to the winner....again, for first place. Let's say that 25 people entered, again. Whoa! $62! Looks like you'll be eating at BK for a month.

Plus, it's a video game, people. Get serious.

Hey, people do it with a card game, why not a video game?

As for making it A LIVING, that I think your out of luck with. Getting it televised, that's actually, somewhat possible. It'd just be extremly hard.

Im certianly not even remotly close to the best at DDR but I have won some compations. If there are a lot of people there the pay off can be as big as $100. At the worst of times the winnings cover the entry fee. I think it can be done you just have to win or be broke.

We're being realistic, kthx.

You're also being a bitch about it too. Flaming never encourages anything except more flaming.

Cassima - The sad truth is, at this time doing DDR as a professional career would be impossible. It isn't recognized enough right now for you to make money off of it. They don't have $100,000 tournaments for DDR. (Yes...there is a $1,000 Nationals Tournament, but after expenses, you've basically spent all that money anyways)

Some day in the future it MIGHT become recognized enough to be the next Texas Hold 'Em fad. Who knows. Don't let go of the dream, but I'd definitely say stick to something a lot more realistic right now. DDR won't get you very far in life at this particular juncture.

Hey...they took an unknown sport and made it so you can live off of it in Rollerball.....why can't you do it in DDR? XD

Go ahead and try to live off of playing/owning a machine/shop, but don't count your chickens. Especially not with this.

You guys are being arseholes about this, by the way. Most of you.

If the original poster had spent the time and money at college on DDR for 8+ hours a day, this plan could be *slightly* more feasible. However, unless you happen to have a couple hundreds of thousands of dollars lying around**, as well as a few years to become better than Yasu or Kevbo (as well as cultivate a number of players as such), this plan isn't going to go anywhere. Get yourself a "normal" job (as you put it), then once you're more than financially stable, you can start to worry about these little fantasies.

Because that card game is still popular even though it's been around for over 100 years. DDR is only a few years old and is losing more popularity every day.

Cards are a lot easier to get a hold of than a huge glowing dance machine. Even the guys who have AAAd most of the game wouldn't be able to make a living out of it.

People make money off card games because its alot easier to hide your skill and make people believe it's a game of chance that they could beat you in if they got the right cards....People who do it for a living know where to find gullable people, and just how to take advantage of them.

You know anyone who thinks of DDR as a game of chance? Much less anyone who would be willing to take a bet on DDR?

And Cassima.... I have serious doubts that you just graduated college, if all you could come up with for a career path is playing DDR. If you speak the truth, you wasted your (or your parents') money.

The real only reason DDR can't be a carrer sportwise is with the exception of freestlylers DDR is not fun to watch. No1 would ever come home from school/work sit down on the couch and watch some nerdy ppl jump around on blue and red arrows to song that most ppl wouldn't like. You would have no viewers watching so ur networkl wouldn't mkae ne money and u wouldn't get ne pay. Learn how economics work (thought they taught that in college).
