!~*Xx*~!:DDR Shoes Review:!~*xX*~!

(corny advertising warning!)
Ever wonder what the best shoes for DDR are? Well look no further! This review will help you find the shoes you are looking for that fit you. Yasu chose Converse. Kevin chose athletic shoes. What will you choose!!!
(corny advertising ended!)

Skate shoes: $50-$90

Pros:
- Best support and comfort
- Best response due to weight and flat bottom
- Most Durable
- Best Grip

Cons:
- Slowest due to weight and high friction
- Difficulty feeling feet placement
- Must tie shoes tightly to avoid them from hurting feet
- Must wear socks to avoid it from hurting feet if large shoe size
- May fall off if not tied tightly and is a large shoe size
- No Ability to bend toes or foot

Review
Best shoes for getting a high PA on 1 –7 foot songs. Mostly for those who have good feet placement and play flatfoot. Best comfort, durability, support, and response make these great shoes. Not best for doing 8+ foot songs compared to other shoes however. The main concern is high friction combined with heavy shoes, which can slow you down a lot.

Converse: $35-$55

Pros:
- Worn by Yasu if you care
- High speed and light weight
- Good response
- Extremely unlikely to fall off
- Great grip

Cons:
- Fairly bad support
- Low durability
- Must tie shoes tightly to avoid them hurting feet
- Must wear socks to avoid it from hurting feet

Review: Great for 8+ foot songs, because they are lightweight and speedy. Great response and grip make this a top choice shoe. Mostly for those who like high speed and good response (Yasu). Main concern is the low support. Best used if you wear them tightly tied with socks.

Water shoes: $30-$40

Pros:
- Best speed of any shoe
- Good response
- Will never fall off
- Good Ability to bend feet and feel feet placement
- Good Grip
- Cheap

Cons:
- Not able to wear socks (unless you wanna look dumb)
- Worst durability
- Worst support

Review
Great for 9-10 foot songs, because they are extremely lightweight and quick. Unparalleled in speed and control make these great for the speediest songs. Best used by speed demons on responsive arcade machines. The main concern is bad support and durability.

Athletic shoe: $40-$110

Pros:
- High speed
- Great support
- Great response
- Great comfort and durability
- Great grip

Cons:
- Low Ability to bend feet

Review
Athletic shoes are great for all types of songs, because these shoes are well balanced. These are great all-around, but do not excel in anything other than responsiveness. Best used by those who have good feet placement and no trouble with speed. There really is no concern about these shoes.

Leather Moccasins: $30-$90

Pros:
- Super high speed
- Great response
- Extremely comfortable and durable
- Great grip
- Best ability to bend feet and feel feet placement

Cons:

- Bad Support unless you wear ankle socks

Review
Great for 8+ songs due to super high speed. Great all-around stats and high speed make these great shoes for all types of songs. Best used for speed demons. Main concern is low support which can be countered by wearing thick ankle socks underneath.

So what are the best shoes? You decide it's all personal preferance.
I hope you enjoyed reading my review. Information on these or other shoes are appreciated.

Note: Don't post what shoes you wear or this thread will be locked due to it being too similar to the "What's on your feet thread?".

I use New Balance whenever i play now. I used to use skate shoes, but they were just too heavy to do some 10s in. The problems with New balance are the tread at the bottom of the shoe being so uneven. Sometimes it throws my PA off. Other than that, they are perfect for what i need them for.

I own one of those really thick foam pads so I play barefoot. It's the best for me because I have perfect feel for the pad, quicker than any shoe, and it isn't too grippy (I don't like anything too grippy) which helps speed and balance. Only downside is that after like an hour or so my feet start to hurt.

My friend owns a metal pad he made himself, and when we play on it we have to use shoes (or else we destroy our feet on the screws) but I really haven't found a shoe I like to wear. All of them have too much grip and since they're heavy, they slow us down on fast-step songs like Burning Heat. What we end up using are those fabric shoes you wear around the house that have a slippery bottom...but those end up being a little too slippery and we risk falling.

I think barefoot = best.

Do not ever get K Swiss if you are playing DDR! It has so much friction, and it squeaks alot too. E2.gif

Please don't say what kind of shoes you have or this will turn into a "What's on your feet?" thread and get locked.

I've got Converse High-tops on right now.

Ahem...
I've always found the high-tops to be comfortable, quick, and provide that support the low-tops don't. Admittadely, it takes some adjusting if you're used to low-tops though. Once you break them in, they're fan-reaking-tastic for arrow smash.

All bullshit. What kind of shoe did you find? Mine are comfortable, I can wear socks, I've had mine for 3+ years with no wear OR tear whatsoever AND with some daily use too, and I've probably had more danger of falling on a TX-1000 than an arcade machine.

No shoes can be perfect without any minor cons at all. Mr. Water shoe fanboy.

Please post a pic of what your shoes look like before I change the review, because every pair of water shoes I've ever owned had the inside sole part come off and I'm not sure if you have the same kind. Also I don't see how water shoes could have great support or how you could wear socks with them. Regardless, Thanks for the feedback, because I want to improve this. I changed the parts about them being uncomfortable and making you fall over, because this only applies to my friends not me.

Edit: I found a pair of comfortable and much more durable watershoes shown in the review above so I changed the review. Although water shoes aren't near as durable as any other shoes listed.

Did you think about submitting this to the Contributors? It's pretty well put together, you just might need an opening & closing paragraph.

Great read. Might I ask what a pair of Converses would cost on average?

Edit: You might even consider added pricing guides on a future update.

I think they're around $50 or so...I don't remember exactly. I like Converse because they're really light and I can feel my foot placement better than in regular shoes. Bad thing is their ankle support is crap.

Should I do a review over feet and socks or would that not fit in with the shoe review?

Edit: Ok nvm screw that I don't want to post pictures of feet on my review.

Don't think I've ever seen someone play in leather moccasins. biggrin.gif

I usually wear Sketchers, but they can be rather heavy.

Nice job on the review!

You should put in some some ridiculous item(s) for humor, IMO. (DDR bunny slipper review, DDR stilleto heel review, etc.) I don't use any other shoe than a New Balance running shoe, and your assessment of them is very good (though I don't know why your feet need to bend... E19.gif ).

There's already a shoes thread, no need to start another.
