Two of my threads were locked on the grounds that "They are not necessary."

Oh, and what shoes you play DDR in is necessary? I'm confused as to where the line is drawn between when something is necessary and when something is not. I'm pretty sure knowing what other music people are listening to is very necessary, where as me telling a story related to DDR is not.

Could someone please clarify this for me?

Telling us the story about how you are bored so you decided to e-mail Stephen Hawking, asking him if he plays DDR. Then getting an e-mail back with a reply saying he doesn't know what you are talking about, simply isn't a good conversational topic.

Sure, you'll get the 'lol's and the 'that was cool' posts. Maybe even people saying they are going to do it too. Which I'm sure Mr. Hawking will not appreciate. But in the long run, that's just going to end up being a lot of post-whoring.

Yes, what shoes you play is necessary because people want to know. So much so, that there's 60 pages of replies to the thread. Some shoes are better than others. And this thread reflects that.

There's topics that will ultimately work, and one's that will not. It's a moderators job to keep one's that will deem unnecessary to a bare minimum.

I can accept that as an answer. Only thing is, you locked it on the grounds that it wasn't necessary. Perhaps you could use more detail so things like this don't happen.

For the mods to post such detailed responses about every locked thread would be impossibly time consuming, however, I imagine if you PM a mod after your thread is locked with a legitimate question as to why, they would be happy to explain.

I think this all goes back to my argument of getting rid of Random Chat and DDR Chit-Chat on the grounds that there are no real useful topics/posts in there anyway. E10.gif

In all honesty, what would we do then?

Where could I make threads about girls and religion?

If you can't find porn on the Internet, you're not trying.

Or BemaniStyle when it comes back up, since Eddie doesn't charge admission.

You sure about that? Nothing against Eddie but from what I gather more money has gone to Bemanistyle from the users than here at DDR Freak. Sometimes the users don't even know what the money is for.

As a side note:

Finally, avoid the urge to start topics just for the sake of starting them - we reserve the right to lock threads that we consider worthless.

And we do?

I figured it was obvious that I was referring to SA. =\

Probably because BMS asks for donations more often. In my short time here I don't think I've seen a single DDRFreak staff member ask me for money for the site (when CStar sees this and invariably asks me for money as a gag doesn't count).

But maybe you guys are and I'm just missing it.

That's because we don't ask for donations.

Well, then, there you go. BMS asks for donations and you guys don't, so the logical conclusion would be that they get more money from their userbase.

I hate asking for donations and we only do it in extreme cases but it's hard always paying a bill for a server that does 10 Terabytes of bandwidth each month with minimal advertising.

Why not up the advertising a bit? It does help.
