Freestylable songs
Long Train Running
Dynamite Rave - Just cause it's always played
Luv To me (AMD Mix) - Highly Recomended
Butterfly
Brilliant 2 U
B4U
On the Jazz
Don't Stop
Spin the disc

There's more, the other guys will add to the list. I should put Era and Healing vision on there because everyone tries freestyling to those songs, but can't pull it off.

freestylable song = every song!

About that list:

Just about every song is freestylable: the style of dancing (or even if it is dancing) will definitely be influenced by what song it is.

Of course, some are harder than others to put a style to: stepcharts can make things difficult, as can monotonous beats, etc.

If you're trying to put together a freestyle and want to use a specific dancing style, then you're going to pretty much have to limit yourself to certain songs. If you're wanting to pop-lock/liquid/robot/etc, then you'll want to stick with the faster, technobeat songs. (high BPMs usually) If you're going for the smoother, latin flavor, or something similar, you'll probably want something in the 130 and below BPM, and only certain songs there too.

Exactly. Don't limit yourself to a pre-selected list of songs. While some may be easier to improv than others (slower tempos obviously give you more time to think of moves in between beats), past tourneys have shown that people are capable of busting out slick routines to any number of underplayed songs (see: BJ's Insertion, Go's Sky High, Wendell's Be In My Paradise). Better yet, the more original your song choice, the more impressed judges tend to be (given that your moves are crisp and you're on-beat with the music).

I'm still waiting to see a good routine to Gamelan de Couple, Kiss Me All Night, Tears, I Was the One, Jet World, Wild Rush oni, Celebrate Night oni, Kakumei...the list goes on.

Use beginner steps if you have to - if the moves are impressive enough, people won't tend to care about the simple stepchart.

That CoCaZnInnovation video, by the way...hot sauce, I'm taking pointers now. Looks like you guys have a nice little scene down there; keep it up. thumb.gif

In all fairness, BJ's and Go's routines were Edit routines. It's a hell of a lot easier to do a routine to any song when you control the arrows, no?

If more people did Edits, hell... we'd see damn near EVERY song get done. The bigger challenge is in freaking the arrows, not just doing something pre-planned and making arrows around it, n'a mean?

Oh, and I do have a 90% complete couples routine to "Stay (organic mix)", but no one wanted to practice w/ me, so it'll just sit on the shelf and grow dust.

Every song is possible to freestyle to. Some are easier than others, but since the music has a beat, there must be a way to move to it.

Which is why I'm making a routine for Paranoia Survivor.

Paranoia Survivor? You've got one hell of a bad rap to get over on that song (or any MAX). Most folk that freestyle that song put together a really weak comedic routine. More power to you, though.

It's not necessarily a hard song to FS to, so to speak. It's got a heavy 270 BPM beat. If you choreograph your stuff to exactly half the BPM (135), then it's actually very feasible. Whether the steps will fit your scheme of things... that's a whole diff'rent story!

Exactly. Therein lies my point.

Plus, one might be often tempted to go back to the 270BPM.

That wasn't the implication (that you in particular wouldn't be able to do it, that is). What I'm referring to is the tourney-wide "groan" that usually happens 'round here when someone picks most any non Sakura/Bag 10-footer.

I'm working on an R3 routine, replete with hand slaps, "scissor kicks" (as I call them) in the middle, and a kneedrop or two. (Note: I don't have any hand motions yet, as I'm still trying to get my step patterns down). My question is, what might be a good thing to do for all the double-stepping? I was thinking of doing the trick where you use both feet on one arrow, but for now, all I've got is marching across the pad looking like some angry robot. Any suggestions?

just out of curiosity...has anyone seen a decent Superstar routine? I'm trying to figure out something to pull off for double-heavy superstar (from Megamix)...ideas or suggestions would be appreciated since I've never tried to make a routine before.
