Here's an Idea I haven't tried but I want to know If it has any possibility of working, I call it "Thrills and Drills" so here goes:
Things you'll need:
Import game
Regular game
Drill
PS2 SLIM EDITION
What to do to perform operation "Thrills and Drills":
1) trace an outline in whiteout or something else that will appear white on a black PS2 SLIM EDITION LID of a cd right in the middle of the lid.
2) Use a drill and cut out the outline of the cd. The ps2's cd tray open censors will be fooled because technically the CD tray isn't open nor' is the lid lifted.
3) Insert the regular PS2 game into the hole you've just cut in the lid
4) Right after the PlayStation2 logo fades to black, switch the Regular disc with the Import disc and hope that it worked.
5) Post here and tell me if it worked. |

im not to sure if that would work but it would save money. That way you wouldnt have to buy a magic switch or slim tool and u could just use a swap magic disc |

ok, magic switch wasmadespcificly for the Slimline. you canfind it on swapnslide.com under PStwo. its just 3 peices that fit into the area where the sensors are so the machine thinks it is closed. Slim tool is kinda weird. Ive seen 2 different kind of "Slim tools" 1 was like magic switch (3 peices that fit the sensors) except it was a different shape. The other was likea slide card for the slim ps2, which I have also seen be called the slim card. If you wantthe lniks to all of them jsut PM me |

Won't work. You'd need to buy a swapdisc for disc swapping and you would also not be able to boot anything because nothing is holding the disc down(the tray holds the disc down) _________________

no, the little ring in the middle holds the disc down, because the disc is snug around the spinny-thing. It's not like if you open your PS2 slim, the disc will dome flying out. Also, can you buy swap discs in stores? |

Is there a possibility of finding one in China Town or in an Import Store? |

hey i have no experience what so ever on modding a playstation, but i was thinking about buying DDR Extreme jp version.
What would be good in modding it? Using a psx change 2 boot disc, or a magic swap disk flip top?
I have one of the older ps2 models.
If there is anything else i need to know plz tell me, thx for the help!

uh
Your idea was to remove the tray, and the ring is part of the tray...
And if you like grinding noises open up your tray while the game is playing, listen to the noises as your disc gets pushed up and moved and the laser+tray refuse to work for security measures.
Stores don't carry swap discs unless you think of those small cart stores run by shady people. _________________

If it did, it would've sold poorly in Japan.
On a seperate note, why aren't there any no-mod solutions in the initial list, such as HDLoader and the Memcard exploit? |

Ive tried helping people with it and it turns out to be incredibly frustrating for them to get it to work. If you've got patience and know how to use your computer and work with the ps2, use the memcard exploit.
Here is the guide I used to build the MC Exploit. It's well written and easy to understand. Make sure you have everything you need before doing it though. The only things my ps2 can't do now are direct booting imports/backups and booting of some games.
Also, buying HDLoader and HDAdvance(the poorly-made clone) is now a ripoff since there free and readily available on the internet.[/url] _________________

Well, the easiest solution is to buy a retail HDLoader (We're assuming the user already has a HDD), make a custom TITLE.DB file, use WinHIIP to dump a bootable image of ExecFTP (Use cdgenps2 to create it) onto the HDD, then transfer ELFLauncher to the System folder as "BOOT.ELF" as well as the ELFs for ExecFTP and HDLoader and the TITLE.DB file. Give ELFLauncher a quick config, and you're done, really. That's the easiest method of doing it, and what's great is that it's a no-mod solution for playing import PS2 games. |

Sorry to drag a oldish thread up but with the release of DDR:EX2 not long away ive heard the online mode wount work for being not using machines that arnt the same region as the disk (say im my case a NTSC disk on a PAL machine) as the DYNS....( I think thats it? ) thing will fail when you try to connect as ive been told. I heard when games get released theres some sort of I.D you can change somewhere through a prog or changing the setting in the connection settings?
Help?
And yes this may have been covered already but I couldnt find anythign on the matter. |

DNAS probably helps detect modchips and makes sure the game you're playing is, in fact, in the disc drive. I have no clue whether or not it detects swap magic or similar disc-swap techniques. I'll be checking to see if DNAS can detect games loaded via HDLoader tonight. |

I noticed that Buyrite is linked as the place to buy a Gamecube swap disc in the first post. Buyrite was shut down by the state of North Carolina back in April for their fraudulent business practices (good riddance), so this should be changed. |

There is a way to bypass DNAS with certain modchips...
HDLoader shuts down the network adapter, so no go with that.
If you've got a legal copy of the game theres no reason at all why online play shouldnt work...the way DNAS works is if it finds more than one of the ID you're using online it gets banned.
Then again, I don't think you can go online on a usa game from europe. _________________

I didn't mean the tray itself, I meant the lid of the tray. that is all, sorry if you misunderstood. |
