It's probably that you either
-Can't read slow speeds well. Try using a towel, or Sudden and HS1/2
-Can't scratch well. Get used to using your thumbs more. |

Applehead: You own me at IIDX, but I'll still try to answer this question. 5.1.1 A is a very difficult song, that's the simple reason why you can't pass it. It's a lot more difficult than Frozen Ray another. You need to be more than proficient at scratching to be able to do this song, and if you can't pass it A-scratch you probably need to get better at notechart reading too. That said, I'll give a few tips:
Like Csta said, use towel or sudden. I use towel on pretty much everything, belive me, it helps. A lot. Try hi4 and towel over half the screen, see it that helps.
You probably already use thumbs by now, but in case you don't, give it a try, like Csta said.
Also practice some other songs, try The Safari 7K, Beyond The Earth 7K, One or Eight 7K, Spin the Disk 7K or A, or anything else with lots of chords and scratches (I know Safari doesn't have tons of scratches but it could help with your note reading skills).
Good luck! _________________

There's a ton of differences (columns, speeds, maybe turntable position), but once you adjust to those there's probably no reason why you shouldn't be able to beat Genom Screams on Easy. |

Just to offer another input on IIDX -> I/III skills... The first time I roadtripped to Augusta for some IIDX 8th Style, I could pretty easily nail songs like The Strong Jaeger 7key, and Final Count Down 7key Hard (I wasn't as good as I am now, but I was still okay =3). Yet when I played some BM 7th Mix, I got my behind handed to me by, of all songs, Afronova Primeval. I then proceeded to eek though Be Lovin, just missing border bonus (82% groove meter). To me, 5key and 7key are two TOTALLY DIFFERENT GAMES. It's strange... Just my input on that - 5key BM I pwnxxors me. _________________

Well, I'll say this, Bemani Man. I've never had the priviledge of playing IIDX in the arcade (have 3rd, 6th, and 8th at home), but when I went back and played Beatmania The Final at an arcade in Colorado Springs, the scratch pad was virtually impossible for me to use. I'm used to a left-handed scratch pad near the keys that can be pinky-scratched. The arcade scratch pad was more responsive and could be up-up or down-down scratched, but it was really ackward to use either scratching with my right hand or trying to play center where pinky-scratching is an impossibility.
And now I have a word on Hi Speed/Towel Modding/Slow Song Sudden. I don't use them. I've never used them. I'm not saying that it's a crutch or any crap like that. I'm saying that if you work at reading songs without becoming intimidated by the notes being close together, the songs eventually play out in your mind like puzzles that become easier and easier to solve. I mean, I completely understand - a song like Xenon 7 (I can't pass Another yet, so I can't use that as an example) might seem like one big blur of strangely-rhythmed steps when you play it clean, but once you get it down, you'll have no trouble with it, and will end up being more versatile in this and other Bemani games. Try Hi-Speeding Heaven or Hell on Pop 'n' Music and see how well it works out.
Hey, nothing against speed modding. Really. If you passed something, you passed it legit, no matter what speed you did it on. But I'm just saying. If you start using Hi-speed, it will become that much harder for you to read the slow stuff when you need to. Just like the drugs they're named after, Speed mods are highly addictive. _________________

LOL Orion, that post of yours is great in many ways.
Well, for me, I'm a Beatmania/IIDX n00b as well...I've been playing for about 3 weeks now.
I first played Beatmania in the arcade...I think it was a 3rd Mix machine and I sucked, lol but that was years ago.
So now, I decided to put my expert DDR skills aside and retry to learn this Beatmania. It's very difficult starting, as well we all know.
Here's what I have now:
-Beatmania 2nd Mix + Yebisu Mix
-Beatmania 3rd Mix
-Beatmania GottaMix
-Beatmania IIDX 3rd Style
-Official Konami Beatmania IIDX Controller
-Surround Sound Speaker System <--GOTTA have it!
^: Yup yup, and I love 'em all...well, 3rd Mix kinda sucks because the only songs on there that I like are Super Highway and Attack the Music! as well as a couple other low starred songs.
GottaMix makes things MUCH more interesting! =D
In-Game cursing/swearing too, like in "Yellow, Black and Blues". XD
Schlagwerk does it too. XD
Well anyways, I started 3 weeks ago and found things very difficult and stuff like in the 'cades, but I worked my way up.
As far as being a 1-Handed or 2-Handed player, I believe that I'm versatile with this because I play both Beatmania I and Beatmania IIDX.
In Beatmania I, I almost always use 1 Hand while in Beatmania IIDX, some songs like Reincarnation require me to switch from 1 to 2 hands in some parts...or just plain 2-Hand the whole song (SP-Trip Machine ~Jungle Mix~).
I just can't seem to decide on whether I'm 1 or 2 Handed because I use both techniques.
...but I feel a bit more comfortable with 1 Hand.
It's like this for me:
1 Hand = More Control (Power), More Tedious.
2 Hand = Less Control (Power), Less Tedious.
^: Prolly 'cause I don't play 2 Hand enough to get used to it.
So yeah, I got 3rd Style....no Beginner Mode, so I failed nearly all the time, but I KEPT going despite my lack of motivation. I'd even play till I got sleepy, lol.
Very challenging game!
I wanna beat Drunk Monky [A] like LISU did and I will! =D
...that is, when my 5th Mix comes in; whenever that'll be...Toys 'N Joys <_<. _________________

Not only were they stiff like my KOC TT was before I modded it, but they also feel a lot heavier. The BM I 7th Mix TTs were loose, and the TT was a different sort of thing, like it was in 2 parts and the top half was removed... It all depends on the machine I guess... BM I's can't all be loose, because I played the BM I Complete Mix 2 that was at Rocky's Replay (formerly? I heard it got moved), and the TTs there were really stiff. TRIVIA: That was the first time I played Beatmania in ages. _________________

Aight, I have 7th and 8th Style, and I'm looking for the next addition to my collection. I'm able to pass 6's on both L7 and 7K, no 7's yet. I was looking towards IIDXRED, but what's the next style to my mix? Just looking for some awesome songs, really. _________________

I saw them both, and I think I like 9th more, because I don't have as many of the songs on there. 6th seems to be a mix of both 7th and 8th.
So now the question is: is 9th style Complete worth the $169? It comes with the Visual Emotions, V-rare, the game, and some cool metal things. _________________

As someone said earlier - if you can pass The Safari on the Beginner, you're ready to tackle L7. Just remember the golden rules of Bemani:
-Know what you can do.
-Know what you can't do.
-Get better so you can do the stuff you can't.
-Do the stuff you can better than you have before. _________________

K I've never played IIDX and I'm gonna get probably 7th or 10th mix CS and a Konami Controler. I was just wondering- all the web sites that have the Konami Cntrol say that it's on pre-order for a new version. Any information on this mystery "new model"? Should I save up the 90 bucks for it or just get one as they are? _________________

They're probably going to use the re-done controllers that are being released with Beatmania US, which supposedly get rid of sticky keys and problems like that. Personally, since the problem is easily fixable (less than 15 minutes), there's no reason to wait if you want to get into it as soon as possible. |

Thanks for the input
I think I'll just wait and see what the "new" ones are like and how well they hold up. *waits for others' reviews patiently* _________________
