|
|
I played DDR for about 1 1/2 years until an arcade that is closer to me got two ITG2 dedicated cabinets. I've been playing ITG for the past 2 months, at least every other day. Recently, my friend and I who have been playing ITG for the past couple months decided to go to the local DDR machine, and play DDR to see if ITG made us better. To our suprise, we had gotten much worse at DDR. For example, I couldn't even do the turns in Afronova, songs that i normally could AA were low As, and I couldn't even pass Max 300. My question is, has this happened to anyone else? From what I've heard, ITG makes you better at DDR, but it just seemed to make me worse. _________________

thats the first ive ever heard of it, maybe for you like my friend, he is used to the ITG noteskins, the lengths, and the songs, maybe if you play two more rounds, you will get right back into the swing of things at DDR, although that is still very unusual |

itg has easier timing windows so likely your pa has slipped but that doesnt explain it all |

Maybe if you aren't FAing. Don't compare the excellent window to the perfect window, since that isn't the highest judgement in regular play on ITG. Sure Marvelouses are harder to get than Fantastics (partly because the marv. window is so early), but no one MAs outside of oni and nonstop mode. If you learn how to FA on ITG, PA on DDR becomes extremely easy.
ITG Fantastic Window: about 20ms
DDR Perfect Window: about 30ms |

Stamina-wise, ITG is better than taking Steroids
Before:
- I could pass every song on DDR.
- LoM and PSMO were "iffy" to pass (usually a B or fail)
- AA on most of the 9's including Cartoon Heroes
I played both DDR and ITG for three months this summer.
After:
- LoM and PSMO are ALWAYS a pass.
- Scores for ALL 10's are an 'A' every time
Score-wise, I can't really say. Walking off an ITG machine and onto a DDR machine will make you greats swell like a cancerous growth.
However, it doesn't kill your ability to PA. In general, the better you get at FA, the better you will be at PA, but you need time to adjust.

that could be the case, because the last time that i played DDR before that was about 2-3 months ago. _________________

I've been playing ITG for the past couple of weeks, and today I decided to play DDR. And I got a hell of alot better. Before ITG, I would usually get a B on MAX 300, or maybe an A if I was lucky. Then after I played ITG, I consistently got an A, I even almost AA'd it. So getting worse at DDR after playing ITG is very unusual. _________________

It's good for Stamina and tens, but not PA, immediately anyway.
Example: Played Da Roots Expert-Got 98.98. Fairly good FA, right?
Played Mahou No Tobira, normally 2-5 greats, got 22. Played PSMO, got an A 88 greats, previously being a B with 130+ _________________

Yeah, ITG helped me a lot with the stamina. My FA on ITG was really good and since fantastics are a harder window than perfects on DDR, I think that helped my PA get better quite some much. _________________

I owe passing LOM on DDR to Zodiac, kagami, and Charlene on expert. the ITG expert steps are actually a cake walk compared to the heavy 10 footers like MAX 300, paranoia Survivor, LOM, Max X. however i think the mines also helped with my ddr skills as they would force me to move a certain way on the pad. So ITG make a drr playter better IMO. _________________

Hi, guys! Honestly, if I am better at DDR after playing ITG depends on the songs. Since most ITG stepcharts on Hard don't use crossovers, I haven't had much practice on them, so I would have a hard time with crossovers in DDR songs. Also, the lack of some modifiers would cause problems with steps that contain lots of sixteenths. But on the other hand, playing hard songs in ITG would probably make me better at the MAX songs in DDR. So for me, it really depends on the songs picked. |

TWO ITG2 cabinets?! In one arcade? Please tell me where this is so I can move there! How are property values in the area lately? Much traffic? How's the weather?
As others have mentioned, you probably haven't really gotten worse at DDR, you just need time to re-acclimate. Are you using the same speed mods as the last time you tried DDR? Maybe your preferred speed has gone up. Are you using the same speed mods as if it were ITG? That might mess you up, because speed looks somewhat different between DDR & ITG even at the same BPM & speed mod, because of different arrow size & spacing. Maybe you've come to rely on the helpful noteskin colorations, in which case Solo might help.
The syncing should be an important factor also. After just a little while you'll "re-sync" to DDR. The more often you switch between differently-synced games (and even differently-synced songs in one game), the more rapidly you'll be able to re-sync.
And on the matter of timing windows:
ITG - Fantastic, 22ms, Excellent, 43ms
DDR - Marvelous, 17ms, Perfect, 33ms
You can't really say universally that one has tighter timing than the other -- DDR's highest judgement, used only in courses, has a smaller window than ITG's highest judgement, but as far as scoring & grading & everything are concerned, Perfect and Marvelous on DDR are basically the same thing, and Marvelous usually doesn't even exist. So you could also say that ITG's highest real judgement has a smaller timing window than DDR's highest real judgement (22ms vs 33ms). _________________

You know, this happened at my arcade also. Everyone that could AA every song has really dropped down, but can 99 all songs on ITG. I really just think it's the frame rate and what not. DDR flows a little better than ITG, and I think that's the problem. IDK, I've only gotten a little worse (going from SDG to about 12-15). |

person1-has anyone gotten 100% on any song? is it possible? i've seen all these scores of 90% and up to 99% but never 100% anyone done that yet?
person2-I heard JSB did once, and all DDR machines within ten miles exploded and orphans flooded the arcade and carried JSB out with the ITG machine into a grassy field where he played guitar for them with his wang. |
