StepMania keeps freezing my computer!

I've tried starting it up four times so far and it keeps freezing! It starts up fine, music and images but its like 30 seconds into the program that it starts freezing.
I think that it has something to do with my computers specs. I've got a old computer running Windows 98, 64MB DDR RAM, 40GB HDD, and Intel Inside Pentium III processor.
Does anyone know the problem? Sorry if this was already asked...

EDIT~ A couple more things...I don't think it could be the graphic card because the program starts up fine and it freezes unexpectedly (w/o me even doing anything!). I'm going to test it 3-5 more times and see if it freezes every 15 seconds or w/e. Lastly, it could possibly be something running in the background...I have the following running all the time:

Explorer
Stopsignav (Stop Sign Firewall)
Starter
Systray

I had the same problem. After about 10 minutes of flipping through stuff on my computer, i finally decided to open it up. I looked at the graphics card and noticed that the fan on my graphics card wasnt spinning at average speed. It was actually spinning really slow. This caused the graphics card to heat up and made processing everything really hard. Once i turned off my computer and turned it back on, the fan began spinning at a normal speed and SM started working properly (though the fan keeps stopping every once in a while and messing it up again).

This may not solve the problem. I use an old GeForce4 Ti 4600. Yours may be different. Im just saying check your graphics card and everything, just incase. Hope this helps in a way
