Well, first of all, use a .SM file from another song as your SM file and edit the information to suit your song. Second, the gap is what bar/measure the music begins. (Not many people seem to understand this concept, I'll try and explain as well as I can.)
To adjust the gap to make the music start at a later measure, press F12, and to make it start earlier, press F11. Toggle with these until you sync the main beat (the beat that should go on a quarter note, usually the first sound in the music, too) to a quarter note line, or a Red arrow in the SM editor with the "Note" noteskin on.
Hope that helped in some way, try reading up on tutorials for the gap if you still don't understand it, it's not the easiest concept to understand, it helps if you've taken up some kind of instrument before hand and understand beat.

The only way to get the gap accurately (this does not include computer generated gap calculations, they are often off) really is to put an arrow on any quarter beat line in the SM editor, and turn assist tick on, and sync it up with the music. Slow down the music to .3 or so, and check if the arrow is synced up with the beat. That's what I do, works every time. |
