Ok, i know the timings for the home versions and the arcade are completely different, so saying that you can AA something because you did it on a home version doesnt mean that you can do it on an arcade. If i hook up my pad to stepmania and use arcade timings, is that alright to say that i can get a certain grade on a song if i can to it on there cause it kind of seems wrong since its not at an arcade.

I've AAA'ed Ecstacy on my Afterburner just a few days ago, and that's with judge difficulty set at 5, and I still don't consider that I can do it at the arcade... The closest I've gotten to an AAA on that song in the arcade is 4 greats...so a majority of the scores I get on my Afterburner, I figure will never happen in the arcade unless you set it to a really high judge difficulty...

well im not saying changing difficulty, http://www.ddrfreak.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=95076, that thread tells you how to get the timings exactly the same as the arcade, and the pad i use is home built just like an arcade one

I don't see why you couldn't. There's a few factors involved, like the condition of the pads, noise level, etc. that could all hinder your performance on any given song if you were looking to get AAAs. However, if you're just playing to get better, your skill at home will be the same at the arcade.

The difference between the arcade/home versions is in the actual coding that determines how difficult it is to get Marv's, Perfects, etc. Home versions have more leinient coding (Perfects are easier to obtain), so it's difficult to compare the two versions. People don't count SM scores because it takes two seconds to program the game into counting every step as perfect.

i thought people just classified them differently. the members on this forum usually post something like: "I AAAd MAX300 (console)." or "I got 1 great on LOM in the arcade." We also assume everything posted is on heavy unless said otherwise.

I think there's a thread here: AAA Accomplishments (Arcade scores only). Or something like it, anyway.

Home pads with arcade timing are a fine line, but I still wouldn't list those as a real score, only because it's still not on an official arcade machine and other small things are amiss, like screen size, pad feel, official DDR synching, etc. I know people opt not to put scores down from a DDR:Forever machine, the Stepmania-in-a-cabinet built by Tokyo Game Action in Rhode Island, and a lot of the NEers were having a bit of a debate about it a while back.

Just to stay on the safe side, don't list home scores, no matter what timing, as arcade scores. If you can do it at home on arcade timing, you should have a shot at it on any arcade machine, so just try to reduplicate it.

yeah thats what i was thinking, but there are some songs that im pretty sure i could AAA after a few tries but i dont want to waste my time playing because they are such bad songs... the other thing about SM was i had a chance to get scores for other mixes because i only have extreme near me

I've only played UM1 and 2 at home, and I've AA'd everything (Except ten footers) at home but damned if I can do it at the arcade. I know with the Ultramix series, a FC is an AA, basically regardless of greats/perfects. I've FC'd songs at the arcade and only gotten a B.

Plus you also have to factor in the condition of your pad... chances are, your home pad is way more sensitive than those at the arcade. I can tip toe on my pad at home and get perfects, but I have to stop at the arcade even to hold a freeze arrow. The pads at the arcades go through a lot of beatings, and if they aren't maintained properly, that can affect your gameplay a lot.

You can post any score you want, and it's still a real score, just make it clear how you did it. If you do something in SM and want to post it, tell us the judge difficulty (although for the reason of potential cheating SM scores are often taken with a grain of salt). If you do it on a console version, just mention that. Particularly in the case of AAAs, its a feat no matter how you do it (except for the aforementioned reprogramming SM E15.gif ).
