I got the game (and a crappy Intec soft pad) about 3 years ago. I really sucked, so I quit.
And then at the end of the last school year, the white guys that knew how to play made fun of me to no end cause I was asian and I couldn't play (granted, I'm really tall and have huge feet instead of the stereotypical short asian kid). Basically from there, I played literally nonstop throughout the entire summer and next school year and by the end of this school year, I've been able to beat 10s on my Ignition (we brought the game to school on the last day and I MAX 300'd on their faces).
Heartwarming, eh? _________________

How did I start playing DDR? Odd story. xD *HUGE RAMBLE ALERT... I ALWAYS RAMBLE*
When I was like, eleven, twelve, something like that, I used to watch this American show called Tucker. I remember there was an episode where tucker was trying to get good at DDR to challenge someone, or something like that. Weeelll... about three years ago... I think it was about a month before I turned 13, I went on holiday to Butlins at Skegness (*LE GASP* xD), and on my first day there, I saw a DDR at the Skyline doo-dah whatsit there. I stood there thinking "Hey, its that thing off of Tucker, I'ma play it!" so I did. And I sucked. couldn't even pass "have You Ever Been mellow" (I think that's what its called) on Simple level. After going off in a strop for an hour or two, i went back and tried again. By the end of the day I could do "Boom Boom Dollar" and "It's Like That" on standard (I think they were like, two and three footers xD), which I guess is good for a beginner. or not.
Well, even after three years I still can't do Max300 or any of the Paranoias. The best I can do is Afronova on standard. AA grade, baby.
I blame the fact that I can't do max300 or Paranoia on the fact that there's no arcde in my town. DAMN YOU, IPSWICH. haha, you should have seen me when I went on holiday to Butlins at Minehead a few weeks ago. Three DDRs, including a Euromix 2, which is my favourite because it has all meh fave tracks on it. I must have spent over £100 on DDR the week I was there.
... I need to learn to stop rambling whenever I'm answering a simple question. ; *runs away* _________________

I was hosting my brothers bachelor party, and while we were eating at a buffet, I challenged a friend to Pump it up. It's not DDR, but it doesn't really matter. I LOVED it! Never thought I'd enjoy myslef playing a dance game. I even ridiculed them in the past (river dance wanna be's).
Felt sick after playing it though. Note to all: never eat two full plates of food before playing a dance game...especially on the hardest level...and you never played before. didn't throw up, but was pretty winded.
Since thenm, wanted to get my hands on a dance game, and now that i have one, I'm as hip as a hippo. |

I played a couple of time in the past at the arcade, just to laught with my friend. But at the arcade, my favorite game was Guitar Freak (I always loved music game). A couple of month ago, I was at my friends house and she was playing DDR mickey mouse on a N64 emulator... I show him my talent (not a difficult game with the keyboard). I had already played some flash beat games but not a true "Dance Dance Revolution". When I saw that the arrow was not syncronised with the beat, I remembered about Stepmania... its was a very long time ago when I tried to install it but I never found song... I played Stepmania with my keyboard for a month or two, having "c-b" on heavy song when I decided to order a ignition clone for my xbox. Now, I have 7 days of experience on a dance mat, I can "A-B" many (all?) light song and complete many standard. I continu to play cause I love this game, I love the fact that this game is a workout, I can play a video game and have a good cardio! |

I can't remember. It was like, somewhere in 2001 or 2002. I stopped playing until I got into it in August 2004.
What got you to start playing? (initial interest)
Well, I only had a PS1, and there weren't really any other good games except DDR.
What made you keep playing? (why do you like playing currently)
Two words: Cool songs. |

It was shortly after New Year's of 2005 when my friend brought over her Dance Dance Revolution game...I had heard of the game before but it didn't interest me. I didn't even know the basics of it all that well. She turned it on, and did Kick the Can on standard. I was MESMERIZED. How could she move so fast? (Doing 10 footers now, it makes me laugh to think I was so amazed with kick the can on standard )
I decided to try "There You'll Be" on beginner and ended up falling off of the pad after tangling my legs up. "This game is kind of stupid," I said, and that was it. She packed it up and we just hung out the rest of the day, no DDR.
Then on Superbowl sunday I was over at my friend Sierra's with some other friends when she pulled out DDR and started playing. She could only do light, but even then I envied her for her mad dancing skills. Soon, while everyone else was out in other parts of the house doing whatever, I was still in her room...Doing a lot of songs on beginner and getting B's on them. I was very proud.
That's when I made my friend from New Year's bring over DDR again. This time, I passed B4U on light...With a B! I was shocked. That's when I knew...I HAD to get DDR for myself.
It wasn't even really until March when I started becoming a dedicated player...
It was in April when I began to do heavy songs. The first heavy song I passed was Dream a Dream, I remember. That was cool. I got better blah blah blah and then yesterday I passed Maxx Unlimited for the first time with a D Better than nothing! And hey, it beats falling off the pad on beginner. So there's my little DDR story. I haven't been into it all that long but it's by far one of my favs. _________________

BIGGER RAMBLE ALERT
August 2004 We were in the mall by my parents' house (visiting) and my wife felt a little antsy and depressed. While she was browsing a favourite store, I asked her if she wanted to watch a movie. I walk by the arcade and see a dancing game with someone playing on it; look at it briefly and think it couldn't hurt to show it to her.
My wife has rhythm (her Cuban blood perhaps) and she absolutely loves to dance. I do too but I couldn't keep a beat to save my life. (I now can!)
I go to the local EB and inquire about this thing called DDR and the guy there tells me that in one month or so (ended up it would have been 3 had I not bought it from the US) it was coming out for the PS2.
So we watch a movie (don't remember what) and then I plant her in front of the DDR Extreme machine and we watched this couple who were on Heavy and Standard and thought Oh Donuts (drool).
When the couple get off the game they give us tips and show us how to play and we tried among others Copa de la Vida on beginner or light.
By the time we finished our set, my slightly depressed wife had the largest smile on her face and was tremendously hyped up.
While still at my parents', we rent a PS2 and buy the cheapest pad and rent Britney's dance beat. My wife beat me severely at that game.
We didn't have a PS2 nor a TV. When we got home we bought a PS2, a TV and waited impatiently for DDR Extreme (didn't know there had been others before )
In 3 months my wife was starting some heavy songs when we found out she was pregnant. Shortly afterward she was told to stop playing (although she snuck in a few V stds here and again). I was stuck in light for the longest time but am now rapidly into Standard and early Heavy.
The music is the #2 reason we play. The #1 reason is that we both love it. |

My DDR ADventures started in SUmmer of 04...All my friends started getting it and were telling me how much fun it was. So I went to the mall with one of my friends who had it, and luckily there was a DDR machine there,,,,We played White lovers i think 6 times in a row...(we didnt know how to put the songs in ABC order)...Anyway..I wound up beating my friend everytime haha and i was instantly hooked.
I got MAX 2 like a week later.
I guess i realized i was getting pretty good so i just kept playing it. And after a year and 18 AAA's Im still playing. |

First started playing in August of 2001. Played on a DDRUSA machine at Disneyland.
Played it because it looked pretty cool and wanted to try it out. Played 3rd - 8th (all renditions too, PLUS, Asian/Korean mixes, Solo, etc.) and have since moved onto ITG1 and now ITG2.
Keep playing ITG (sometimes DDR) because of the challenge and fun of it. It also is a really helpful social tool quite honestly. _________________

I started playing sometime in early July of 2003 two years and 30 days. My brother got some of the music and I thought it was some of the finest music. So one day my brother goes to Texas for Future Business Leader's of America national competition and describes extremely vividly DDR and shows me Flash Flash Revolution. I thought, is that possible? with your feet? I haven't been to the arcade in ages I better go check if they got it. Well my brother's birthday came. He went to go watch a movie with friends and went to the arcade and reported back that a DDR Extreme Machine has been installed. I got super excited and finally one wednsday at about 5 o clock off I went to the arcade to play DDR.
I learned of three songs that day, Butterfly, Cartoon Heros and Speed Over Beethoven. Over the next few weeks I would beat Speed Over Beethoven and Cartoon Heros eventually beating Butterfly.
I keep playing for the fact that it will always be the first of the new wave of games and that it is always a challenge to strive for AAA, AA, and such along with the Max and Paranoia series. I also partially play for exercise. _________________

I started playing DDR when it was April 2, 2005. That's about 5 months ago from this indicated post date.
why do I play DDR?
I am all about self-motivation. No one else can motivate me to do stuff. It was really about "I have to find a new form of entertainment". Then I remember I never gave DDR a chance 1 year ago. So I was like "let's try DDR". Then it became addicting to me after frustation in the beginning since I almost couldn't play any song.
So I bought the DDR Ultramix 2(huge mistake), since I thought songs are all the same, and I don't need that much songs. I realize I finally regret it 3 weeks later. |
