There is no sarcasm there. If you play DDR too much you'll just get frustrated trying to get better. Pace yourself when playing and know your limits.

Im on my 4th week(1 month) and i just basicly got into heavy, like i can beat all standard songs except Sakura, almost beat it except the last part, and maxx 300 and acouple other various songs but any other standard im good, then now im on heavy, and i can do most 7 footers some 8 and i just beat my first 9 footer. im gettting there, Something that might help your confidence and progression is i started double mode, and i can do alot of standard songs, and it makes single easier, i think atleast. Also if someones better then u in the arcade its a good way to look good and show off lol cause at least where i am most people dont do double

When you feel like you want to progress to the next level it helps to figure out what is holding you back and practice it. Most people who are stuck on standard are not good at a few things: crossovers, gallops, stepping on notes that arent blue or yellow (with solo on), or stepping quickly.

To practice crossovers work on songs like let the beat hit em and don't double step.

To get used to gallops just think about jumping and dropping one foot a little bit slower then the other. You'll also have to listen to the music to hear how fast the gallop is supposed to be. Cowgirl hvy is awesome for very obvious timed gallops on heavy. True (trance sunrise) hvy is awesome to practice crossover gallops.

For stepping quickly just practice the fast songs on standard. There are definitely songs on standard that're harder then some heavy songs so if you can pass every single standard song you're totally ready for 6-7 foot songs.

Finally, listen to the music! A lot of people just try to sight read everything but DDR is all about feeling the beat. You might be able to sight read (and typically sight readers step early) up to the easier standard level, but once you hit heavy you need to know a lot of the music to understand the steps.

Ive seen people that were able to pass Heavy songs with As and Bs within the first month that they started, but Ive also seen people (like me) that have played for a year and are just starting on Heavy mode. I suppose it all depends on the person and how much drive they have.

I don't know how long it'll take you to pass a heavy song BUT:
I DO know that you should post it in the little magical thing called the GAMEPLAY forum if you want to pass the "I Don't Want My Thread Locked Song" Written by: LoQ.

Thanks

I've never seen anybody get as good as fast as most people in this thread say they are, but I read it on the internet so it must be true am I rite???//

It's taken me about two months of casual play (a few sets a day) to get to heavy mode. I'm just breaking into 8 footers and the occasional 9 now, with crossovers and gallops still giving me a bit of trouble.

Thanks for the pointless post.
---------------------------------

It took me about... 4 or 5 months to actually be able to play on heavy. Doing good on heavy is another story.. probably another half a month.
But everyone is different, don't just base yourself on us. Light to standard is the longest jump for most people... probably half the time it takes to get to standard.. for me at least.

I dont know, it took me a good 2 months before I was getting GOOD scores on heavy (B+), took me 3 months to sight read a heavy to be able to pass it., 4 months to start destroying cata's left and right and around the 6th month mark im able to consistently pass 10 footers with at least grades of B (I could pass before, but a grade of C in my eyes isnt a pass, I could do that at like month 4 when I was getting high A's on HVAM).

The thing is I guess that my transition from Light to Standard was incredably painless. I grasped corner jumps and 1/8th notes extremely fast so I was able to practice Standard faster than most people are able to. The transition from Standard to Heavy was a complete joke enough said. There are two things I got hung up on (that are still weaknesses today, just not glaring as they were) Fast multiple Jumps (Drop Out, TLOM std and heavy and any other Max for that matter...) and Crossovers that require the up arrow (took forever to get this down.)

There are things that make progression faster. Practicing doubles makes singles a cake walk enough said. If you find a weakness you have, keep going after it until it is no longer a problem to execute, that way you can move on to other things.

OVER ALL, the big difference maker is time played and interest. I got the home version, and I had 3-4 sessions that lasted about an hour daily as an example.
