I actually have a question about afterburner maintenance.
Out of nowhere my pad ceased to function. Prodding around I noticed that the control box wasn't working either (no start/select or anything), and since it's my only link to the PS2, that could explain the "sudden pad failure". It wasn't during game play. I just set it down to play again one day.
Has this happened to anyone else? I simply want to know if I'm wasting my time by purchasing a new ctrl box.
EDIT: Apparently it has! How about the -frequency- of this occurance then? |

That's exactly what happened to my pad. Only the back button worked. Except my start and select on the control box were still functional. Right now I'm in the exchange process, so hopefully the new one will work properly.
You aren't wasting your time getting a new one...Redoctane will pay for shipping so you might as well. Better than having a broken pad! |

When they have a reason too. People keep buying them everyday, even us knowning that they suck. But if we stopped buying them, then they'd have to make better pads to draw us back, right?
But right now, they can get away with crappy pads because we keep buyin' em. _________________

When I was at E3, I played around on a TX-5000. "Bleh, this sucks," I thought to myself. The rep at the booth asked me to go try out the Afterburner and tell her what I thought. She also told me that they made the Afterburner for Redoctane.
Now, I couldn't verify that as the truth... but given the vast percentage of Afterburners that are having problems... well, I can begin to see that just maybe the Afterburner really is made by the TX makers. _________________

Finally got my ps2-xbox adaptor in. The pad works great now. No problems. The recessed panals are pretty cool too. If you're buying an AB mainly for the xbox then i would just go ahead and buy an adaptor from ebay just to be on the safe side. I was pretty mad that i had to wait an extra week to play on my new pad. And if you get an adaptor please remember that the X/B button is confirm and the A/O is back. I spent 5 minutes wondering what was wrong with my pad when i kept hitting A to get into the game. lol. |

RO Afterburner owners- Make sure you save the packaging for when you need to send it back. Although Red Octane graciously paid for the return shipping, I had to pay $23 to get it boxed up to ship back. |

Well, despite all the bad things I have been seeing happen here, I think it's mostly CBoxes, so I went and ordered 2 Afterburners together. I hope they work when they get here....I have doubles game to catch up on. I'm glad to see Red Octane replaced their defective products in a gracious manner, it's one of the reasons I ordered thenm anyway.
Besides that, is there anything you need to do before playing...or anything I should do to prevent something frrom happening? I hear the plastic is a pain to get off.

if someone out there with a pad would be so kind as to take a pic of the senors, I've been very curious as to how the pads have "arcade like" sensitivity. I have a BNS pad and i just would like to see how the two compare. |

From what I can gather, it seems that the AB works okay on the PS2. How does the pad hold up in terms of use on it though? I know I want two of these for the more 'arcade' feel, but I really don't want to play $400 on them if they won't be able to hold up through consistent, heavy use. (AKA, two hours daily of 8-10 footer songs by non-stomping users in the 100-200 lb. range).
Anybody have dead arrows or anything of the sort on them? _________________

Well I'll tell you what I can when I get my two. I'll be using them for the same amount of time and difficulty as you on the same system =P. So if no one answers you can get a sure answer from me.
People have been saying a lot of things about dead arrows and such...usually it's the crappy control boxes though and by now those should be fixed. If the pads get crappy on ya, you can just send them back and not pay anything for it and get a new one in exchange...

XD, well, that works. I did get to play on my friend's Afterburner when she got it, almost right out of the box...and it was pretty good as far as I could tell. I'm more worried about the level of wear and tear it'll take. _________________

And plus... say you want to play Ultramix, but then you decide to play some US Extreme. CF's can't play on both consoles, but Afterburner's can! |
They can, all you need is an adapter, and you'l have no disconnect issues.
Why would you want to play Extreme US anyway? |

Ok, so, I got my Afterburners today, 3 days early I might add (Go DHL!), so I'm gonna fill in some questions with pics and such, XD!
So they came double boxed and there was styrofoam at the end as was the box that held the control box. I took it out and saw that it had that nasty looking plastic on it. Let me tell you, it's really sexy once you get it off. It took me an entire hour to get all the plastic off of it. Yes, an entire hour. Red Octane needs to package them differantly. Who wants to spend an hour getting plastic off the damn thing? Well it was worth it anyway.
So as I was getting the plastic off, I was looking at what made this pad so damn sturdy. This thing is SOLID. It has wood under all the metal, and the arrows (under the sensors). So there is no need to worry about anything bending. People have been wanting to know what kind of contact system this pad uses. Well, it's nothing special, but it is better than previous pads. From the looks of it, Red Octane incorperated a copper contact system, which is pretty nice. It's extremely sensitive.
Right now, this thing plays like a DREAM. It's absolutly amazing. A HUGE step up from Ignitions. It feels a lot like the arcade, which really gives home play a nice feel.
A definate must buy IMO. Others are having trouble but I haven't so far. I have UM1 and UM2 but I really don't like them so I won't really be testing it on Xbox. I'll leave that up to other people =P
Any questions, feel free to ask me.

I'm curious as to whether anyone's been receiving a control box that doesn't gimp out on XBox. (They're known to work just fine and dandy on PS2.) _________________

Yea...copper is a good thing. It conducts electricity better than just normal metal. So yes It would be a good thing...And I dont even buy already built pads. I make my own.So I could care less really |

No disconnects at all and I was playing doubles, so that goes for both of them. However in doubles I need to set the pads again before every song.
In singles there was no problems whatsoever.
(hahahahaha!!!! UM just said the funniest thing ever! "Look at the time! Gonna get in some dancin' in before milkin' the cows!?")
