I know about the patching and PS-X-Change methods, but I was wondering if there was something I am doing wrong with the action replay and if that's not the case, is there an easier method then the first two I mentioned? |

Yah.. it plugs into the parallel I/O port and then allows the disc swap method. You can also plug in cheats.
I just tried the original disc swap method and it also brought up the same message. I think I'll either have to get a mod chip or use a patch, which is available for the 5th mix. However Disney Rave doesn't have a patch.

Thanks ddrnemesis but I had already read the instructions and despite following it ver-batim and entering the correct codes, the same error message still comes up. Here's a rough outline of how I'm doing it.
(NTSC) Final fantasy 8 disc inserted
*the Action Replay screen pops up*
Swith the backup NTSC-J Disney Rave PSX disc for the FF8 disc.
Insert codes and activate
[and yes, I did find them. here's a copy and paste in case you doubt me
Antimod codes:
D019020A 1040
8019020A 1000
]
And voila, the error message is still there. |

He's following the directions, later Playstation games have very good anti-mod protection.
What I don't understand is the fact that you linked to the patch
http://www.megagames.com/psx/psx_patches_d.shtml
And didn't use it. _________________

The DDR Disney Rave does not have a Protection Fix Patch, which according to the site is the patch you need to bypass anti-mod protection. Even still, I tried the other NSTC-PAL patches(it's just a region conversion) just for the heck of it, and it still came up with the same error message.
The question that comes to mind is if the later PS1 game had such good anti-mod protection with boot discs and other mod devices, then why is it so easy to play backupped discs on the PS2 with The Swap Magic boot disc? That's just seems weird. |

I don't have the original disc at the moment because I'm letting my brother borrow it, so I'm trying to make due with the backup. I've done every step and the only difference is the disc. I've read literature on the internet and I've found that the boot sector gets screwed up when copying over, and that's the main reason why you need a boot disc to play backups. Well, I think the later versions of the PSX(the ones with tougher copyright protections) checks for the boot sector AGAIN before playing, so that's why it shuts down. That's the only difference I can think of between a backup and the original.. so it looks like I'll have to wait until my brother gets done using it, or until someone posts a protection fix patch. And I haven't tried other specialized PSX boot discs but I know it wouldn't help if the software checks for the boot code.
And I've tried every possible combination with the cheat codes, w/ and w/o the master code, coupled w/ or w/o a seperate code. |

If you are looking for a PSOne boot disc for imports, search modchip sites (www.modchipstore.com) and look around for the Breaker Pro, its an import boot disc. There is even a way to play certain PS2 games via a memory card exploit with the Breaker Pro. Check into it...
On a side note...
You can burn over 1X if you use good media (Ritek/Ridata, Apple, Sony and TDK are great media). I use Ritek and Ridata for DVD and CD for my PS1, PS2, and Xbox backups, and I burn the DVD at 8X, and CD at 24 with no problems over the past 6 years I have been making backups.
In my PS2 is a DMS4, and what a wonderful chip it is! I highly reccomend it, they make a solderless version too which is the same chip, just no soldering.
In my Xbox is a Xenium Ice, VERY VERY good chip HIGHLY reccomended! _________________

I have a really important question but I don't feel like reading through 80 pages.
Does anybody know if www.modchipstore.com is legitimate? I really want to buy a pre-modifed Ps2 but I read somewhere that some mod chip sites don't even ship the item. And I dont wanna lose $330. So please dont ignore thsi question. Thanx.
And another thing, can the DMS4 modchip play DVD+R [not DVD-R] backups? |
