i prefer home. I sweat a lot while playing DDR, and I dislike walking around all sweaty. When i'm home, i can just take a shower after playing DDR, feeling completely refreshed afterwards.
I like playing at the arcade as well, but I like playing at home better. _________________

Arcade is so much more fun since I can play versus with my friends, and people cheering after you finish a song. |

I've only ever played the home version. I'm having my first arcade experience this weekend.
My best friend got me hooked on DDR when I visited her, but I didn't have the guts to play at the arcade, so I just played her home version. When I got home I got my own home version, but I live in the sticks and the nearest machine is 50+ miles away.
But we're going to that town this weekend, so I'm gonna play!
I'm gonna suck, but at least I'll be able to say I played a machine for once, lol. |

The arcade was great! Even though I'm a rank beginner (or rank light, rather? lol), people who had never seen the game thought I was good (lol), and it was neat to watch others play. When I first showed up there was this kid, about 12 or 13, and he was playing on Heavy. My first thought was "Showoff! There's no way!" But he was wicked good! He NAILED his song, walked away with a B rank for three songs, IIRC.
And now that I've experienced both, I have to say...no preference!
I'm going to play the arcade every time I get a chance from now on, because it was mad fun. HOWEVER, I'm going to continue to play my home version. Why? Because A) otherwise I would only get to play DDR roughly once every three months, and that's just not enough, and B) the home version is free! (At the arcade, I spent $6 and got 24 songs.)
But now I'm going to look into a metal pad for at home. It would be a lot easier to play if my pad wouldn't shift under my feet. _________________

I like my afterburner because it feels like it's more sensitive and you don't have to step in the middle of the arrow on holds. But nothing can compete with the arcade experience. |

I find the judge difficulty on the arcade EASIER than the easiest setting on EXTREME home. |

I never really noticed a difference. I've been told the arcade machines are on difficulty six or seven, whereas home is at four or five. I have yet to see if this is true... _________________

I like the home pads, but I get so used to those that when I get on a real machine, I have a difficult time the first time because I need to stomp alot harder. Plus, for the holds, I have to stand on the tips of my toes in order to keep the holds, and I don't want to turn them off. |

American home version sucks. Japanese home version is way much better. When it comes down to if home or arcade is better, the arcade has way much more songs, you can attract crowds, and be on a sturdy pad. Home version to me is practice for that. |

Umm..
To all of you that said "Arcade, cause it has more songs" (I don't know how many did...I saw one whist I glanced at other responses) You should see my house..
I have 12 versions...11 of which are Japanese...and several hundred offical songs on SM...which I do have an adaptor for...so yeah...
But!....I still prefer arcade....xD
It's cause I love the attention I get when people walk by the glass next to the machine (My mall's DDR machine is next to the front display glass...you're like...on dlisplay when you play...lol) and notice I'm doing a song backwards...like...facing away from the machine...Lol.
I guess I'm just an attention whore like that...xD

It's actually kinda hard for me to decide. I love the whole arcade experience at times and hate it at others. Low volume music, kids all over, other loud games, waiting in line...those are all things I don't have to deal with at home. At home I have a nice setup. A HUGE bigscreen tv and a couple afterburners. And I have two ps2's one US one JP so I can play all my import games too. It's free, I have the music as loud as I want, and the only people stepping off beat and annoying me are my little sister or my best friend and I can handle that But AAing a challenging song at the arcade gives me much more of a feeling of accomplishment than at home. And it is nice to show off a bit. So I guess for me it's a toss up. |

I like the arcade more for reasons other than the pad (which I believe is better than the home pad), it lets you meet other people that are intrested in DDR and thats always great.
But, there are also times in which I prefer the home pad more - like on holidays when everyone is in the arcade trying out the DDR machine for the first time. I dont have much patience. xP _________________

Well, i have a metal pad at home and it works great. I thoght that it would get me used to the arcade but it still feels completely different. I like playing at the arcade more because
1 show off your skills
2 a ton of songs
3 it just feels more fun doing the REAL thing
But i do get much better scores at home but o well... the only song i cant really pass at the arcade is maxx unlimmited _________________

I must be one lucky s.o.b the video/media/computer... what not store repairs the dance pads at the mall right across the street. So anyway... they're really good. they take off the old dance pad and hack it to play at home. The arcade machine is down a lot there so i go to a different mall. But my point is I bought one of the old made new dance pad for like 300-350 ish dollars and I can save my money now. |
