Okay, we all know that DDR has multiple things that are just fun to know about, so I thought it'd be cool to make a collection of them. Basically, list something in DDR that could be considered subliminal or cool to know. For example: In DDR, sometimes the announcer shouts UMA! UMA!! which I think means Unidentified Mysterious Animal? Just throw in some cool stuff like that. Brings out a whole 'nother side of DDR. _________________

I'll throw in some stuff most of the veterans know about that not too many newcomers know.
- The background for Make A Jam features Konami's old logo.
- I'm sure everyone knows about "573" already.
- The Afronova background in 3rd Mix arcade machines is actually a photoshopped picture of Reese Witherspoon. (thanks to Ensyther for that one)
- In Make A Jam on Basic/Light, the first few steps consist of the d-pad portion of the old Konami code(up,up,down,down(repeated a few times), left, right, left right).
- Sana Molette ne Ente is about how Sana's boyfriend plays too much Beatmania.
Uh...that's all I remember for now. But there's plenty of little easter eggs in DDR that're from the old Mixes. _________________

Stolen from Aaron in Japan:
-DDR EXTREME US and FUSION (and maybe even Festival) has the incorrect BPM displayed for Your Rain. It displays 84 BPM when it really plays at 94.
-Various CS games made after EXTREME AC secretly have Marvelous timing. When you step on a note on the step zone, watch the arrow flash. If it's white, it's Marvelous rated, even when you're not in, say, Nonstop Mode.
-The weird symbols in i feel's background is found in Implantation from Drummania.
-Background with sliohettes with microphones and people is something from beatmania.
-Highlighting PARANOiA Max (Dirty Mix) for awhile on DDREX CS JP will play a different remix of the song.
-Ecstasy uses sound clips from the Apollo moon landing.
-The disassembled DDR machine normally found in PARANOiA Survivor/Survivor Max was originally used as a placeholder for songs with incomplete bg movies in DDR EX AC test locations.
-Can't Take My Eyes Off You was supposed to be in 1st or 3rd mix.
-Doo-Be-Di-Boy (KCP Mix) and Ultra High-Heels were in the 5th Mix test location
-So Deep was in the Road of Slow test location machine.
-You can scroll to temporarily halt the timer in AC machines but it'll continue its countdown after 30 seconds of scrolling.
-So Deep was a 10-footer in MAX2 test locations.
-Bye Bye Baby Balloon was supposed to be in MAX US (y halo thar 6-second clip)
-The Infinite Prayer (floating flock style) music in Festival uses the Another version.
-AM-3P (303 Bass Mix) was going to have Oni steps.
-On 2nd Mix, if you landed on PARANOiA MAX (Dirty Mix) in Roulette, you play a different version of it, which is basically uses the original PARANOiA's steps.
-Ska a go go another Trick Doubles is the best song with the best steps ever |

573? Isn't that like, Konami's Logo or something?
Also, I'll add the hidden robot voices in Legend of Max. There's quite a few, althought no one really knows what the last things they say are, the first are things like, "Reality." and "Revolt." I think at one point it says, "Oh my God..." Really long...but I'm not sure. _________________

Actually if you say the numbers in Japanese, it sounds like Ko-nam-i. Or so I hear, I don't know Japanese yet. _________________

5(go/ko), 7(na[na]), 3(katakana for "mi". This pronunciation is also used in various forms of counters). _________________

I know this atleast happens in DDR Extreme, and I think there is also a secret ending in Max2, but in DDR Extreme, if you get OMES, you get the secret credits with a remix of Graduation.
Does Reese Witherspoon or whatever know about this mess? Why did konami change it? _________________

Due to the adaptation of kanji, the Japanese have lots of ways to pronounce each of their numbers. Normally, 573 would be pronounced go-hyaku nana-juu san.
5 - go
7 - nana
3 - san, but can also be pronounced mittsu
Because of the various ways to say numbers, the Japanese will often find correspondencies between words and numbers.
go -> ko (voicing removed)
nana -> na (shortened)
mittsu -> mi (shortened)
And so the joke is 573 is pronounce Konami.
The same method can be applied to the song .59.
. - ten
5 - go
9 - kyuu or ku
Tengoku, meaning Heaven in Japanese.
(I may suck at DDR and ITG, but my Japanese makes up for it X-D ) _________________

Ooh, I can answer this one. The Japanese language has two counting systems, one of Japanese origin, which is older, and the other which has a Chinese influence. In the Japanese system, 1-10 is hitotsu, futatsu, mitsu, yotsu, itsutsu, mutsu, nanatsu, yatsu, kokonotsu, toh. In the Chinese-influenced one, it's ichi, ni, san, shi/yon, go, roku, shichi/nana, hachi, kyu, ju. The 573 comes from go-nana-mitsu. Cut off the second syllable from 7 and 3, and you have go-na-mi, which sounds similar to "Konami" and thus you have 573. Using the same method, you can also get 765 out of Namco, since Namco is spelled out "Na-mu-ko" in katakana.
Off-topic side note: The reason there are two different words for 4 is because "shi" can also mean "death" in Japanese. It's not the same character, but the pronunciation is the same. Thus, the numbers 4 is bad luck in Japan (as well as China and Korea). It's a deeply held superstition. In China, for example, you actually buy a cellphone number of your choosing. Number with many 4s in them are dirt cheap. Sony, a Japanese company, recently released a new Mp3 player called the NW-HD5. The previous model was the NW-HD3. They skipped 4 because of the superstition from what I've heard. I've also read that some buildings in Korea countries don't even have a 4th floor. o_O I've read that this has been changing, but there are still traces of it around, it seems. I'm not sure why there's a different word for 7, though.
EDIT: D'oh! tac-tics answered the question while I was typing mine up. x_x; |

Hence why the TRICK Oni at the location tests had AM-3P (303 Bass Mix) with oni steps, I'm guessing?
I had always wondered about that.
