This is my first post here, so I hope you guys take me seriously. Anyway, I started playing DDR about two months ago. I picked up umix2 and an ignition 3.0, and started playing.
As soon as I got my pad, it was great. Extremely responsive - I barely had to tap the pad to get it to register. My girlfriend even commented on how sensitive it was (she's a ddr vet of about 3 or 4 years). As time went on, I started to move onto standard, and some heavy songs. This is when the problems started. Every once in awhile, the right arrow wouldn't register. This was starting to tick me off since now that I was a whole hell of a lot better than I was when I bought the pad, I actually started caring about AAing a song. I learned to live with it, I guess, and just focused on playing good at the arcade instead. Unfortunately that wasn't the end of my problems with this pad.
After awhile, the left arrow started to become very desensitized. It would only register if I hit it very very hard. A few days after that, the right and left arrows started to stick, rendering the two arrows useless for 3 or 4 seconds until they came unstuck. A day later, I couldn't even pick songs because of how bad they stuck after a song - the song selection would just scroll and scroll and scroll until I shook the pad enough to get the left or right arrow unstuck.
In short, my warranty is gone, and I'm stuck with a $100 piece of foam. I can't reccomend this pad to anybody who is a standard-heavy player. Chances are it simply will not stand up to anything other than casual or semi casual use. Get a metal pad instead. I wish I would have. |

Yeah, same thing happened with me. I just returned it though. I play a lot of hard and expert songs on it (11s, 12s especially) on it. I also play easy and medium to rest too. _________________

Bahh, not even 2 weeks and the pad is starting to crap out. The down arrow is not responding, and all arrow are starting to misfire badly during play, setting off mines when im not touching the pad. Also resorts to getting way off's and goods when I haven't even touched the arrow yet.
I sent an angry (kinda) letter to RO, heres what it said:
Quote: | I have recently purchased a Ignition 3.0 soft pad from a local Best
Buy, because my Ignition 2.0 died after 5 months of play. I have not
had my new 3.0 for more than 2 weeks and I am starting to get poor
results when it comes to DDR and ITG.
When standing in the center of the pad, the arrows will miss fire,
sometimes miss selecting songs, and setting off mines during play.
This is extremely frustrating, because it makes it harder to pass the
harder songs with mines. It will also make other arrows go off during
play, which makes them a "good" when I never touched that arrow.
I am also having problems with the down arrow. It will stick
sometimes, and not register hits for a few beats. With my last pad,
the up arrow started to die, and in this pad the down arrow is doing
the same.
What's the deal? On your box it says "You won't find a better dance
pad for the money." I am starting to see this is not the case. It also
says "The RedOctane Ignition Pad is the MOST DURABLE and LONGEST
LASTING PAD that we have found." Again, I'm starting to question that
statement.
I am going to return the pad on the weekend to my local Best Buy, and
possibly get a refund of my money. I was even planning on purchasing a
Metal Afterburner from you guys as well, when I had enough funds.
Seeing the quality from these pads turns me away from all your pads in
general.
I would hate to take my business somewhere else, but if I have more
problems with this mat, I may take my business to somewhere else, such
as investing in a Cobalt Flux, or a TX Series metal pad.
Do you have any advice on maybe what I can do? I know a metal pad is
more durable and sensitive, but I am not sure if I am ready to
purchase one. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Matt S**** |

Holy Crap, they got back to me really quickly, here's their responce:
Quote: | Hello,
Thank you for the email. Generally the 3.0 model is really rock solid. It is odd that you are having issues. The 3.0 is made with thicker materials and designed to be even more durable than the 2.0. The Metal pad we sell now is the indutry's best. We are getting rave reviews. Also the Afterburner pad has a 90 warranty, and we stand behind our products. Please feel confident in our products.
Thank you,
Service RedOctane

Its funny, I feel as the new 3.0's foam is more flimsy than my old 2.0's foam. Who knows... maybe its just me..
Edit: Oops, sorry about the double post! _________________

| I though the same thing My 3rd pad within last 2 months is already giving me a problem (down arrow again). Have you checked with Best buy? They may exchange it for you if less then 2 weeks. I know EB Games does. |

I would think they would be easier to maintain, just wipe it down with windex every once in a while so it doesn't get too dirty.
I would get a metal dance pad myself, but right now I just cant afford to spend my money on something like that. Got a car I need to save up for, a trip to Disney (around $500, haha) and car insurance.
I'm taking this back tomorrow, and if this next one craps out on me, I am going to try and convince my mom to get me an "early Christmas present that begins with a 'metal dance pa' and ends with a 'd'."

heh, my 2.0 crapped out after like a couple months so we got it replaced at EB games...but then it crapped out again after another month or so...i think it's cuz my brother weighs over like 180 pounds and stomps really hard...but whatever...it still pisses me off...it's the down arrow...and now it's out of warranty so there's really nothing we can do...as that other guy said "it's a 100 dollar piece of foam." so anyway we're getting an afterburner now w00t...but ummm...if he kills that thing...;alskdjfalksdfasdf....anyway um getting to the point...anyone know if there's a way to eventually extend the warranty before it runs out? i'd pay to extend warranties considering how easily these redoctane products seem to die...especially the ignition pads methinks. |

I have a hard wood floor and it barely moves around. :] It only moves around when I play 11s on ITG.
Gah, today it pissed me off so much. I'd be in the center using one foot to hit X to go to Dance Mode and it'd trigger as me going to options mode. Then I'd get off the pad and the game would keep cycling through everything on the main menu. >:[ I had to unplug the pad open it up and close the zipper back again to get it to work.
Gah, what the hell is up with these pads? I thought they were GOOD. -_- _________________

Wow, just got my second 3.0 four days ago, and it's already dying. The down arrow sticks for about 5 steps, then pops back up. I'm only 5'8" 120 pounds! For God's sake, work! I'm moving onto a metal pad. These foam ones are junk. |

Yeah, I couldn't get a metal pad for home play, so I went with the highest quality pad there was and got this. However, right now I'm rethinking the quality part. -_-;;
I've spent around $130 over four pads both version two and version three all together. So basically, I bought each pad for around $34. =/
It's alright seeing how quickly they sort of died for me. _________________
