Is there some kind of tutorial on how to make support beams? I think I have an idea of what I'm going to do, but i want to make sure that i don't screw anything up. I already have many mods on my metal pad (I have a really old Red Octane) to make it feel more like the arcade pad. So far I have modded the arrow panels to be lower and used different metal corners for the arrows. I'm also thinking about removing the diagonal arrow buttons (a.k.a. O and X) since I don't really need them. (I have a control box to replace them.) Whoops... I think i typed too much! biggrin.gif Anyways, does anybody have some kind of tutorial to make support beams? Thanks in advance!

I'm trying to figure out how to make custom support beams too. I just haven't dived into it yet, but I'm looking at options right now. Easiest of course would be using a chair with stuff on it. But I'm gonna check out home depot one day and check out what kind of stuff I can use. Most likely would be stainless steel pipes, but its all in the air for now!

ok well i dont have a metal pad but i soon will and have also thought about this, altho im just gonna use a chair i came upo wit a good way. go to home depot or lowes or w/e they have in your area and buy some pipe and corner fittings, i believe the actuall bar is inch and a quarter but im not sure. so take that and make the basic shape of the bar. attach it to a sheet of metal atleast 1/4 inch thick and the size of the pad. place it under the pad and attach with metal screws being carefull not to destroy any wiring.

Based on the just a regular metal pad, a bar is not goin to support your weight without some mods (you don't wanna tip over do you?)
Make sure to add some weight the front.. could be some spare weight aroudn the house of maybe sand in a rubber tube fixed onto the pads.
som good old house hold plumbing tubes would work nicely.. cut yourself some hole and get a wielder out.... if not...

just use a chair with books.. works fine for me ^^ laugh.gif

Make sure that the pad does NOT move or holding the bar is useless. I've tried the chair with someone sitting while I was playing Max. [Period] and that wasn't a pretty site since the pad moved a lot. However I was using Ignition pad without any carpet + velco modification.

I have already thought about that. I glued the metal mat to a big square piece of sturdy wood. It's a little bit bigger than the pad and it made the pad heavier by anout 20-30 pounds. The original weight was 42 pounds. I'll let you do the math. E1.gif Is that good enough? I'm probably going to go with the pipes. I'll probably buy some next week.

Glued? What kind of glue did you use that can make something that heavy stick together O.o
hehe
I'm asuming you're using metal pads for this (well duh.. a 20-30 pound soft pad? >.<) Make sure you have sometime in the back to put the pipes in. Wood is always nice ^^ unless you want to weild it in which could potentially ruin your pad...... disgust.gif

I used Goop. It is VERY messy but VERY sticky and none of it has ever come off. VERY reliable.

why do you call bars support beams... its a freaking bar, and yes its very easy to get a chair and put it behind a pad for the same idea...

but theres a really easy way to make a permanate one, make a 2x4 frame that surrounds your pad, and go to the plumbing dept. of homedepot, grab some metal pipe, elbows, and stands and stick it together....

I just got some 1 inch pipes for my mat. It's probably a little too small but who cares? I'm in the process of cutting and welding. I'll probably be done with it next week. I'm going to an eagles football camp tomorrow so, expect pictures in one week! E1.gif

Oh noes! My pad broke! frown.gif I didn't even get to finish the bar! Oh well. I guess I'll just buy a Cobalt Flux with the Arcade Style mod Kit. Then I'll put on the bar.
