I've seen a mod guide for tx-2000 that replaces the foil with copper strip to improve sensitivity and fix the rip problems.

Its here http://www.ddrfreak.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=102167.

They just shipped my pad today, but I won't get it until Friday E2.gif so I don't know what the circuitry looks like. But, if the foil functions like any foil used for step registering, I think the copper strip might help the sensitivity as well as lasting longer.

I'm no electrician, but I've worked with home water heaters where there is terrible rust from amatuer di-electric unions, ie. poopy happening when you join copper with with other metals w/o proper unions. But I don't think this will be a problem so try covering the aluminum contacts with copper strips.

I got one of two of my afterburners today, it was kinda a mess getting the protective stickers out of the creases but other than that everthing turned out all right. The shipping was fast but for some reason they decided to deliver by afterburners at different times.

anyways, I thought I might have a bad control box because it was acting weird on P.C. but that USB port on my comp was just flawed, so I switched ports and it worked fine.

I really like this pad, it needs a little getting used too, but if your a regular at the arcade I think it will be all too familiar, bolts and all.

problems? maybe a little, so far...

No flashing lights on arrows, which for some reason I kinda expected.
Buttons dont actually press down, they are just lower( which is nice)
and the pad seems pretty squishy, I dont really know how to explain...
like if you stand in the center i think the corners of the pad might be a millimeter off the ground, but the pad doesnt seem to move at all, and the squishy feel to it helps your jumps.

anyways, I received mine and I have no problems, all my cords and such were there and works great! I'll post on how well linking 2 afterburners together works tomorrow when I get my second pad disgust.gif

I've played on a Cobalt Flux before and tomorrow I will be going to my friend's ITG party where he will have two Afterburner pads. I'm a heavy person (185lbs) and am a really good FAer, so I'll hopefully be able to test out the pads and review them tomorrow after the party.

=D

So linking together the 2 afterburners is really cool, it takes a couple minutes to figure out and screw the hinges to both of the pads, but after that I was grooving on double mode. It seems like... one of my pads might be taller than the other, and when I'm on one pad the opposite side of the opposite pad seems to rise a bit off the ground. I think this is probably a surface issue, but the carpet im playing under is all the same, I dont know.

Anyways, everything works great and I am pleased, although I must say that the second pad was delivered six days after my first one, for what seems to be no reason at all. It really pissed me off because I was phsyced about double mode in my house.

i hate the recessed bittons on the arcades. since i have a size 14 shoe. when i go to step on a button my foot doesnt hit the button it hovers above the button. i miss like half the arrows that i normally get. instead of getting a AA on 321 stars i get a C. so i have to totaly change my style when on the arcade. I normally slide my feet but now i am forced to stomp.

I feel your pain, Juste (I did the same exact thing with 321 Stars...my size 14 foot wouldn't hold freezes and whatnot!). Because of that, however, I'm thinking of getting an Afterburner or making my own metal pad with recessed arrows to practice for the arcades (I don't go there often, but when I do, I want to be ready).

I got my replacement pad today.

Well, the up arrow now works.

but now, randomly, it's hitting B for me when I step off the center block and onto the back arrows. Totally randomly too, which means I get backed out of my menu choice and onto another. my old pad did not do this.

And, I'm STILL getting the disconnect messages. I have now tried three control boxes and I'm still not able to play without this.

Has anyone successfully put a ps2->xbox adapter on theirs and had the disconnects go away?

I'm so tired of replacing this thing. I've had the whole pad replaced once, the cbox 3 times, and it still won't work. I'm so sick and tired of the whole thing!

Wow that really sucks. You are getting really bad luck with this pad.

Hey there, I've been reading the forums for a while. I just decided to get a new pad. My 20 dollar one isn't holding up, though I've used for a year so I got a nice amount of play out of it.

I'm movin' on up to a metal pad. So I checked around. Looks like it comes down to a CF or an AB. I went with the AB because they are ready to ship and they are 100 bucks cheaper. I'm in Canada so we'll see how long it takes to get here. I'll post a review once I get it. Hopefully I'll get it working and it won't be broken or whatever.

BTW, I'll be using it for PC only (Stepmania).

I believe international shipping takes four to six weeks.

the thing ships from california, yet I live in michigan and it shipped in four days. I was quite impressed by the timing and how nothing seemed to be damaged on the pad, but it took 6 more days for the other one to come, and I ordered them at the same time.

anyways, I remain to have no issues with my pad, and althought I'm a pretty big guy my feet are still really small, so all is well for me.

I recommend this pad for people seeking the arcade expeirence, both on single and double mode. It just feels like the real thing, and more than ounce I have been venturing lower to hit the arrows with my hand instinctively. I can understand why people enjoy freestyle, its fun to make it look like your actually dancing.

These are all questions that can be answered when you place the order or by going to RedOctane's website, ya'know. -_-

dude, feet like that are a blessing. have you ever seen a vid of someone like JSB playing? He uses his huge feet to hit all fout arrows by placing the centers of his feet on the brackets so he can hit all four arrows without ever moving his feet from panel to panel.

I plan on buying an afterburner (i'm tired of fixing my homebuilt pad), but the occasional reports of malfunctions scares me...

I love my AB but as far as the "arcade experience" I would have to disagree... The panels are a lot more spongy and flexible, this is probably the reason why I do so bad at the arcades...
