Brought a friend I've been training to the arcade a little ways away from home so that he could try the arcade version for the first time. It was my first time on the machine in a couple months, and this is what I noticed:

The timing window is much smaller.

Afronova is really easy. Just as long as you can do crossovers at that speed, there isn't all that much in your way.

Cartoon Heroes is still hard at 1x. Didn't pull that one off. On the other hand, Captain Jack is ridiculously easy.

Waka Laka should be a 9 footer. I struggled, successfully but just barely, out a pass on that song.

I can kick Irrestiblement (sp?)'s anus now. Funny that I could pass HVAM regularly two months ago, but not this song.

10-footers are hard to due at home and at the arcade. Playing Paranoia Survivor for the first time...well let me say those sudden pauses tossed me around.

And yeah, that's all I can think of for now. Anyone else have stories to tell about returning to the arcade after using the home version for an extended period of time?

Should I expect it to move or move it myself? And I really should say that I forgot to say that I tried Insertion 1x and beat it for a first try, which I'm quite proud of.

well, i've only played on home versions for my entire ddr career, and i stepped onto an arcade for the first time, and here's what made it hard:

the recessed buttons threw me off completely.

i had to stop harder on an arcade than i would a soft pad.

getting used to playing in shoes was HARD!

my first use of a bar totally made my life easier. (cant stop falling in love speed mix heavy became a breeze)

but once i got used to the difficulties, i dont know if ill be playing much home versions anymore E15.gif

Drat, I'm not the first!

But since it's a home vs. arcade post and decently well written, I'll throw in my $.02:

- Yes, the timing window is smaller, but you'll get better A LOT faster if you get used to it.
- Yes to Afronova.
- I 2x/Bar/Solo Cartoon Heroes, which is really uncharacteristic of me at that BPM (I don't 2x almost anything over 155 BPM, and I rarely use the bar). I can still AA it 1x once in a while, but its a toughy because it's weird to read.
- I think Waka Laka is a very, very hard 8 footer. Once you realize where all the jumps are (and they usually come in very predictable places), it's a cakewalk to PA and do well on.
- Irresistiblement as a 9 makes me go whaa?
- PS is weird. People argue that it's synched slightly late. Not sure, but something is weird about it.
- After a while, those recessed buttons will throw off your home playing completely, especially when your body discovers that if you step on the arrows using just part of your feet on just the inside sensors, you'll conserve lots of energy.
- If you have to step harder, it also might be the wear of the sensors in your pad. I can step with nearly to no volume on well-maintained arcade pads and do just as well simetimes.
- Shoes: In the long run, your feet will thank you. Also, they add a little weight on your feet which'll help you pick up your feet a bit more than you would on a soft pad and help you gain endurance, probably.
- Play with the bar if you want, but CSFILSM isn't that hard without it. I actually do worse PA wise (maybe like, 15-25 Greats more) if I try to bar that song.
- Agreed with the not playing home versions so much. I played home versions for two years, but never went back when I became an arcade regular.

I would prefer home version more than arcade versions... but the thing that stops me from doing that...
Konami's horrible home games...

ITG is the only game I would consider playing at home..

but yeah... getting used to the Arcade is better in the long run, mainly because of the timing differences.

Julie, Julie.... tsk, tsk, tsk... I'm disappointed in you E13.gif

This, people, is probably where this thread should have gone.

Zee End.

If you're posting in the wrong forums, those mod.s are ruthless. No, they won't move your topic, but if it is one that belongs in another forum, expect it to be locked. (Discontinued.)
By the way; I don't know why this thread isn't locked yet. Either they must deem this as appropriate for this category or we just have some damn lazy mods.
