OK first of all i would like to say, in an OPINIONATED(is that a word) manner, ITG beats DDR in many different ways. Moving on... I didnt feel like waiting to unlock everything manually so i entered the unlock code and boom, theres everything
The very first song i tried I THINK was Romeo & Juli8 Expert. Wow, mines are a one helluva an annoyance. I really dont like mines at all.(mainly because i dont know a good way of avoiding them) Hands are easy, period.
The song selection is alright, i being a HUGE techno junkie, i like almost all of it, except Dax, ....
The load times dont bother me at all, in between songs, i NEED that break. First time i tried Tribal Style Expert, i almost passed out.(ya i know im not that good at 10 footers)
The mod settings are just awesome. When i played ddr, it felt like there werent enough mods, and there werent, so ITG is good for that reason.
Overall, very good game, worth the wait, very good challenge.
9/10
Now if i can only get $300 for a cobalt flux...

Have you ever seen red when it should've been yellow?

OK, I'm a 2 1/2 year DDR player (feet and controller) who just bought ITG. I simply had to see what the fuss was about, and I figured you can't knock a game for trying. So here's my review:

Several good things, several bad things I noticed right off the bat.

Good:

1. I do love the information for songs in the corner that tells you number of steps, mines, etc. That was very informative and helped to make a decision on a song.

2. I like the fact that I am still given the BPMs while on the options screen. Literally in the time it takes for me to go from a song to the options screen I can forget the BPMs so choosing a speed mod is a little hard. Not so here.

3. Wealth of modifiers makes playing extremely interesting.

4. Song selection is interesting.

5. Overall play mechanics actually work. I have yet to change any of my sound options to get arrows to sync up.

Bad stuff:

1. While the Hard level is OK in terms of readability, the Expert level is retarded. I'm not just saying that because I'm not on that level feet-wise. As a controller player, I'm getting A- to S on most hard level songs, but literally failing in the first 10 measures of the same song on Expert. Not all of the steps are like this, obviously, and this may be just me, but some of the songs' steps on Expert reek of desperation. Like, someone sat down and said "Hey let's make a song that will beat PSMO or Max.(period) on DDR. We'll show them." IMO, Mythology Expert is a good example. I'm not seeing the "fun" in the steps that some folks were touting.

2. The practice mode is counterintuitive. I seriously don't even bother with it because it's pointless. I would like to be able to select more than one song to practice, and I don't like having to go in and out of the mode just do so. That makes no sense. I know it's based on Stepmania but still ... that mode could have been so much more.

3. The game mode's event mode is counterintuitive as well. While the setup is wonderful, I don't like that I can't save my initials. And my biggest pet peeve: I DO NOT like being kicked out of the mode completely when I fail a song. If I fail I should just be kicked back to the song wheel. How hard is that? I don't want to see the credits every time I fail a song and I don't feel like having to jump back into the menu either. That defeats the point of Event mode in my point of view.

Overall
I'm impressed with what they've taken from Stepmania and DDR and improved upon. I like that some people out there care enough about bemani to want to do something like this and bring a little more to the masses. If they can fix the above, especially the menu stuff, I would be more than happy to buy the next version. As for the Expert song stuff, I can just not play it and it' would do me just fine. I believe in "either you like it or you leave it alone" so it won't bother me too much, but I just think it's kind of obvious that someone had a meeting where the goal was to outdo some of the legendary hard songs in DDR.

Other than that, I'm sold on it.

Overall score: 7.9/10
