|
|
Hello everyone,
I have read through the stickies and am interested in upgrading to a higher level Ignition soft-level pad. I tried a search on ebay for "ignition ddr pad" and came up with a scad of hits showing in general two types of generic or rip-off ignition pads. Example pictures are below. Any experiences with these knock-offs or should I just save more pennies and get an official RedOctane ignition? Thanks for your input.

I've bought my last 2 ignition sets off Ebay, both from the same seller. My 1st pair died after 9 months, my second ones are still going (got them in December). I wouldn't spend the money for RO $100 for an ignition is a rip off. I pay $57 and get a pair of pads. _________________

I have a pair of pads that look like the ones in the first image. I modded one pad and left the other alone. The modded one is still going, but the unmodded one died in about a month. |

I saved up money to buy a real ROIgnition, as I didn't want to deal with modding it, etc.
It's good so far and I do have the one year warranty on it from EB. At the end of the one year, I will return it just because. xD
So far I've only had to exchange them once as my first one was DOA, none of the buttons would register. This second one is doing fine. _________________

I just have to point out - you're not going to get a whole lot of useful data asking about the quality of a "generic" item. You could have five different instances of said "generic" item, each with varying degrees of quality, and nobody would know the difference.
One of the many perils of buying on eBay. _________________

Curtriss has a good point. Personally, I think all of these pads come from the same manufacturer and are just relabeled by various companies, but I could be wrong. There could be dozens of factories located who-knows-where making these things, and trying to find out which one actually made the one you're thinking about buying would be almost impossible.
Oh yeah, if you do want to take a chance and buy the pads and mod them, the mod I used is Rychan's mod, which she has linked in her sig.

Well if you mean the pads, I got some Ignitions from Play-Asia and they seem to be spunky and still running. But its hard to get it working with me EMS USB adapter ho hum. But overall just make sure your buying from a person that actually hosted their own photos of the pad. (To be sure it exists) _________________

My friend bought the same one and had to replacement 3 times for stickeness ( Bought from Ebay). This is NOT real mymybox premiem pad. This is knock off of mymybox premiuem pad 2.5 or 3.0
you should get either RO Ignition ($109.00- PSX,XBOX, PC) which is expensive or get MMB Premium Pad 3.0 on Ebay (around $50.00PS2, PSX only) that is cheaper than RO Ignition pad.
it is totally up to you ! If I were you , I would get two MMB Premium Pad 3.0 instead of One RO Ignition Pad.
Just My Opinion! ^^ |

Hello everyone,
Thanks for the input on these pads and the tip to take a look at the mymybox pads, I had not heard of them previously. In regard to a previous post, I think you can get useful information about these generic pads in general, if everyone posts that they are horse-puckey, then probably not worth trying them out. But it does complicate things when one can not know for sure who is making what pad.
Cheers and thanks for the help everyone,
Tom

Hello again,
I took a quick look online at the mymybox pads and they look very nice at a decent price. My main question now is what luck people have had with these pads and PS2->USB adapters for StepMania use. I currently have the EMS USB2 working very well, but have not tested it with a LED-sporting pad. I can move this thread to the PC adapter forum if there are too many respones. Just wondering if anyone had experience with the ESB USB2 and the MMB premium pads exactly.
Cheers,
Tom

Mine are modified so I couldn't give a crap less what the foam looks like that goes inside.
Just a word of warning, keep the foam in it and be sure you'll lose the pads to internal ripping, I don't care how dense they say the foam is. I watched a pair of Red Octanes get torn to shreds internally within a week of purchase simply because they were used with the foam inserts.
My friend owned a pair of the MMBs and they are smaller than most ignition pads. I've had a total of three sets of ignitions so far (in almost 3 years of playing DDR mind you) and the same piece of wood fit in every one of mine. When I tried to put the wood in her MMB, it wouldn't fit, the wood was too big (by about an inch on each side). _________________

i bought a pair of pads that look like the one in your second picture. it was a great deal, only $10 + $25 shipping = $35. i was really surprised when they came because they came with the hard dense foam like the real RO pads, not the soft spongy ones that a lot of the bootleg ignitions have. i played heavily on one of them and after like 4-5 months it started losing sensitivity. it still works, but not so well. the second one i haven't played on much but it still works perfectly. |

I have one that looks to be the same as in the first picture... However, it does not operate correctly with the foam insert inside(When the foam insert is put in, the left arrow is triggered without even stepping on the pad...) I believe it's because my friend stomped so hard on it, but I could be mistaken... |

I recently bought a branded Mymybox 3.0 on eBay (about $55 delivered), great so far. Very similar to the excellent "original" RO 2.0 (3 not 6 interlocking foam inserts, LED lights). The foam is also thicker and more dense than what I had in my crappy "newer" RO 2.0.
I'm beating all my old high scores in Max2 and Extreme, and I'm at that age where I'm not getting any faster, just older. So it must be the pad.
We'll see how I feel in a month, but at this point I'm very pleased with it. Doubly pleased that I didn't have to get an RO. |

Hi fortyseven,
Thank you for the post, I have been looking at getting a pair of the branded Mymybox pads around $100 or so and glad to hear that you like them. I like that most of the dealers include travel bags and PS2 cord expanders. I may just have to liberate a bit of money from my account!
Cheers,
Tom

Cheers,
Tom | You might want to watch out with cord extensions, especially with Bemani games. My pair cause a slight delay in reaction time. _________________
