Today I finished my homemade pad and come to find out it will NOT work with the Japanese PS1.

When it's plugged in a screen with the option of "YES, NO" comes up and it will not load any farther. With a regular controller, the mix will boot up right away without this "YES, NO" screen. Since this screen is in Japanese, I have no clue what it says. Pictures can be taken if needed.

The catch to this whole deal is that it works fine on my US PS2. I have the USB 'modchip' so I can play backups of the PS1 games, but I didn't spend $100 on a Jap PS1 and $50 for each original(3rd, 4th, 5th, and Extra) for nothing.

My guess is that the Jap PS1 doesn't like aftermarket US controllers. If nobody here has some information, I will have to get another controller to try out with the PS1 to test this theory.

Any help is greatly appreciated, searching for this problem hasn't done anything for me.

The problem isn't with your pad, this screen comes up and says essentally, "No data found. Do you want to create a new data file?" Go ahead and say yes (The highlighted choice). Then another screen will come up and say, more or less, "Do you want to turn on autosave?" with yes again highlighted. You may want a dedicated PS1 memory card for your Japanese saves, though I hear that there's not really a problem for having both US and Japanese saves on the same memory card. Can anyone else back this up/shoot this down?

The problem isn't with the controller, which the PSX/2 doesn't give a darn about - you can start up with a IIDX pad or a GunCon for all it cares.

Ahhh yeah it works fine now with the memory card in biggrin.gif I forgot to put it in before testing it out.

I read everywhere that the controller doesn't make a difference, but I thought that this just might be an exception.

BTW, I have saves from both US and Jap mixes on the same memory card without any problems.

It's been like 2 years since I played DDR at my house now, and man does it feel good to get back into it.

Thanks for the quick reply though Heffen E1.gif
