What are the options like in IIDX? What does "Hidden Sudden", and "Towel Mode" mean. Thanks in advance. _________________

Hidden Sudden makes the notes appear for a split second in the middle of the screen. Not too bad until you start adding higher speeds, then you hardly have any time to see the notes/react.
Towel Mode is when you cover a part of the screen up with a towel to block out some of the notes. It's like controllable sudden. |

once I get some cash I'm gettin a turntable and a game. The konami table, I hear everywhere you have to mod it and clean it and stuff. I know nothing about electronics, is it easy to disassemble/mod/take out the keys and stuff? _________________

Mr_Blasty: You don't have to mod it, but it will help a lot. Its not very hard, and there are many guides floating around for it. The most common "mod" is to take apart the key deck and put cardboard circles (about the size of the whole where the CD mounts to the drive) between the button plunger and the key.
cartoonhero29: Depends. Heres what I do, assuming you will play with the scratch table on the left. If you're gonna play right-side, then assume Key 7 is Key 1, Key 6 is Key 2, ect.
1-handed key setup-
Scratch: l. hand
Key 1: r. thumb
Key 2: no finger placed, hit with r. index or r. middle
Key 3: r. index
Key 4: r. middle
Key 5: r. ring, hit with r. middle or r. ring
Key 6: no finger placed, hit with r. ring, r. middle, or r. pinky
key 7: r. pinky
2-handed key setup-
Scratch: l. pinky and l. ring
Key 1: l. middle
Key 2: no finger placed, hit with l. middle or l. index
Key 3: l. index
Key 4: no finger placed, hit with l. middle, l. index, r. index, or r. middle
Key 5: r. index
Key 6: r. middle
Key 7: r. ring
And diagram so you know what on earth I just said.
( S )----2 4 6
--------1 3 5 7
Thats Player 1 side. move the scratch table to the other side for P2 side. Like I said, invert the numbers for P2 side positioning. Don't mind the hyphens, they are just helping space it right. Good luck! _________________

Here is my VJ Army All Styles page. Just click the style you want to see songs for on the right - not only is it a list (its how I chose 7th Style when I first started - Frieza showed me his list) but a scorekeeper for once you get your game and controller - check out my pathetic scores! Admittedly, I'm a little better now, but I don't update much, so my C on 511 7key will embarass me till I AAA that stupid song... _________________

I just got my IIDX 5th style in the mail today and started playing, and it was pretty cool. I did notice that I'm getting way more Greats than Just Greats, like 15 Just Greats and 50 Greats, which annoys the hell out of me (I'm a PA'er in DDR). Is this normal for first timers? Also, is the Just Great window in that red zone, or am I mistaken? (Sorry for stupid question)
EDIT: another thing, how do you bring up options? _________________

Yeah, that's normal. Your timing will start improving soon enough.
Hit start to bring up the options, but in 5th Style you can only chose stuff like Random on the title screen. You can change your speed on the song select screen, though. |

That is not a zone, that is a line the notes fall to - past that line is where you get misses, if you let a note fall to just under it and don't hit the notes - I believe hitting the note directly ON the line is Great. If you look closely, where the green flare appears every 1/4 measure, when it isn't flared, there is a slight green aura - this is ROUGHLY the Just Great window with NO Hispeed mods. It's based on timing, though, so with HS1 the window will start a little highter, HS2 will be a little higher, so on, but the aura will still be the same. Anyways, you want to hit the note when its sitting just ON the red line, not when its over the line; that may be your timing problem. _________________

I don't know if this has already been covered, but what ever happened to the 1st and 2nd style of IIDX? I have not heard anyone talk about it... ever. Also, what's the [a] people put next to songs?? _________________

They were the beginning, along with Beatmania IIDX Substream, but everything console started with 3rd Style, mostly because the first console Beatmania IIDX was 3rd Style.
[A] is short for Another, which is usually the hardest difficulty for 7Key or 14Key play (a 7 is added after Another for 7Key play, or a 14 for Double play). There are a few songs that don't have Another7 notecharts on certain styles, or don't have one at all, like The Safari and Gravity. There are also songs that lack Another14 notecharts under similar circumstances, the only one I know of being V (this is assuming you don't play Double+Battle, in which case you could choose Another, but it would be the Another7 notechart - the right side would be a mirror of the Another7 notechart, so you would get to experience true double scaling ) _________________

Some of the time. Most of the time it just makes them random. You shouldn't play songs on random in the hope that you'll get a "good random" and be able to say HAY I CLEARED KAKUMEI 7K!! _________________

I'm sure if it was sold for profit, Konami would clamp down on it (I'm sure it's a matter of time before they clamp down on ITG).
Quoted partially for emphasis and parially to point out all the randoms I've gotten for Kakumei 7key eventually screw me over, even if I can do the first part of scales. _________________

I just started playing Tuesday at 8 pm. So far I have probably played 5 hours total time. And I can pass 2 star and 3 star beginner songs.
I can pass alot of 2 star and a few 3 stars. What is the song I should be going for to pass on 7th in beginner? |
