Holy. Shit.

That is the ONLY two words that can be used to describe the MOTHERFRIGGING GENIUS that Roxor concocted with this course.

Kudos to the players who dared to play, Damien and Xero: http://www.itgfreak.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=2077&sid=737acd2413f4d5ae0ded6784e5c8bd66

This is worth discussing in its very own thread.

The beginning of Bloodrush, and of course, the part before the slowdown right before the arrows get HUGE are my highlights.

Of course, seeing Vertex^2 was a treat, but still... you can't ignore the rest of that course.

My video wouldn't stream, so I could only hear the part which got buffered (stupid 56K internet disgust.gif ). What were the first 2 songs heard on the video?

I have to admit, the modifiers make the gameplay look pretty cool, and the songs sound pretty good.
That being said I think the people at Roxor are retarded for making poopy like that. Doing that course would pretty much require memorizing most of the steps and where each modifier starts. Seriously, I think all that crap is their way of making up for their lack of good music and steps. They can do better than that...

......IMHO erm.gif

Why are you streaming this? (In fact, why is Windows STREAMING downloadable content? Way to go, Gates.)

All I can say...wtf...

The mods look interesting and make the course hard as hell. With the charts that the guy on the left was playing, the course looked like it could be fun. No way in hell would I try the expert one anytime soon.

However, those Expert stepcharts are garbage (parts of them seem to be pretty good, but then they just turn into nonsense). Seriously, those nonstop runs on the second song go to absoultely nothing (either that or I couldn't hear them on the video). Sure, they're very difficult, but they're unnecessarily so. The fact that you people are calling them genius strenghtens my theory that you people love absurdly hard poopy for no other reason than it's difficult. But hey, I guess then Roxor's doing a great job because they're appealing to this exact market. I don't have any problem with difficult charts if they're logical (such as most of the stuff in Pump), I just dislike charts that are difficult for the sake of being difficult.

Music quality of these difficult songs is much better than ITG. I haven't heard much of the other songs, but there was definitely more effort put into these.

Glad to see Vertex2 keeps the annoying mine legacy, although the song doesn't sound like the original (actually has a melody this time).

The mods in that course are fairly easy, in my opinion. The only parts that get at all complicated are easy parts of the songs. There really aren't many courses I've seen with actually difficult mods.

First song: Energizer. Solid stepchart. Listen to a clean version, you can pretty much hear everything the steps are going to. Specifically, the long runs follow a warbley synth, kind of in the background. Hard chart is awesome, too.
Second song: Bloodrush. Okay stepchart, I think it's kind of excessive. There are a few really long drumrolls which they decide to follow, but the rolls get really boring because they're just SO LONG. Additionally, they start following the drumrolls pretty much as soon as they start, but when they first start, they're really quiet. Especially during the slowdown, it's hard to stay synced to them. The hard chart is in some ways better, but in some ways worse. However, it's overall pretty good too.
Third song: !. ...meh stepchart. There are a few parts that are really good, following the drumrolls and that guitar-sounding synth and so on, but there are a lot of weird runs and things that I really don't know what they're following... on hard OR expert.
Fourth song: VerTex^2. Okay stepchart. The beginning of the song, especially on hard, follows that warbley synth great. I'm a bit lost during the first slowdown, but then things back into that same groove as before. That last slowdown is awesome, too... but after that, things start getting weird. Basically a lot of steps start coming at you and I lose track of what they're following. It could be just that... I'm losing track... but I don't know.

So I'd agree with you, that they aren't works of GENIUS, but that's no reason to bash them to that extent. Just about every one was designed with a goal in mind, and I think they met that goal. And if the player's like them, I guess that's the best they can hope for.

Meanwhile, I prefer hard songs that follow the trickiness inherent in the music. Euphoria (despite the naysayers, I think the 1/32nds aren't just to be hard, they follow the music quite well!), Hardcore of the North, Go 60 Go and the Summer remix.

Woah, what? I get almost exactly the opposite impression from Pump. There are hardly any difficult charts that are fun and rhythmically interesting. Everything I've tried has been straight-up twisting 1/16th runs of death, frequently for no reason. In the Groove at least follows the rhythms in the music from time to time. Pump charts usually leave me bewildered in terms of what they're following, if anything.

So... I hope you haven't been offended at my response, but I wanted to at least defend the Energizer chart, and point out what they were TRYING to do with Bloodrush. Also, I hope I haven't bored anyone to death with my dissertation on step design. Thanks, everyone, for listening.

The thing about PIU charts is that they follow very odd rhythms sometimes, usually you're dancing around the beats instead of exactly on them, which I kind of like since it makes the charts more interesting (and almost more like dancing). There are a couple which are complete nonsense though (FA CZ, for one).

I'm sure that if I heard clean versions of those songs I'd be able to pick things out, but even still it seems like parts don't need to be so difficult. Some parts are like playing IIDX with your feet, and others are just excessive.

I saw an old Energizer video from way back in ITG2 beta phases and thought the chart was pretty good (which raised my expectations), I liked how they handled the slow part. Vertex^2 also started out pretty strong but kind of degraded as time went by. I'd say that all of these stepcharts have strong parts, but also have absurd ones as well, and that's what I dislike about them. I mean, more or less all the 10+ songs in ITG do go to something, but it's usually just some generic beat put there for that reason. Hell, some of them go to nothing (My Favorite Game). Overall though, I think the stepcharts for licenses are better than the originals. My favorite songs in ITG are Hip Hop Jam and Tough Enough (also Vertex, for some odd reason, it just clicks with me), if I see more songs in ITG2 (or however long it takes) up to those quality in both step design and song choice, I'll convert to the series with no problem.

But there is a reason for those parts to be that difficult, and it's a good one, too... "These are expert charts."

It's supposed to be the hardest chart you can get for the song. I don't understand stuff like !, but for Bloodrush... even though I don't particularly like the parts where there are the long runs following those crazy drumrolls... but there's a good reason why they made them that way. The drumrolls are there, and the chart is supposed to be hard. Thus, when they follow those weird background rhythms, especially if that "background rhythm" is a solid run of 1/8ths or 1/16ths, that's exactly why they've done so: To be hard.

However, as long as it's following something, I'm basically happy with it. The charts I don't like are stuff like what you brought up: My Favourite Game. There's nothing playing those piles of 1/16th notes, they just threw those in there. That's dumb. However, I see nothing wrong in making parts just that difficult (or much, MUCH more so) if there's the music to back it up.

Roxor looks like it put way to much time on the modifiers and not enough perfecting the stepcharts. The first two songs were pretty good, but after that it looks like the just got bored and spammed mines and arrows and mods. Granted, they spent a lot of time working on this game, but mostly not where it really counted, IMHO.

Good point actually, it makes sense for Expert to push the boundaries of the song. Even if it's BS, it's something very difficult and thus the high foot rating is valid. I may not agree with how it's done, but the difficulty is justified in that respect (provided that steps are thrown in for no reason).

Wow, crazy stuff E1.gif Btw, if you don't like the expert steps, play on hard and don't complain about them. E15.gif I personnally really like those stepcharts, especially My favorite game! Those 1/16ths triplets totally makes sense. They just follow the beat. Just think of Dynamite Rave in DDR. It had the same kind of triplets.. and even that stupid jump triplets E15.gif

Energizer is definately a solid stepchart, but it always felt uninteresting to me. I like the changes they've made to it, but it's still overshadowed by the other 12s. Bloodrush follows the music perfectly, and is a great challenge. It's the first 12 to require a ton of twisting. ! is unbelievable, and a sheer blast to play. The steps are very... atmospeheric, if not especially hard. I love the way they build up to a climax. It's my favorite upper-level chart, hands down. VerTex^2 looks very awkward (because of the freezes), and the end is utter BS, but I'm sure it'll be fun to attempt.

I don't see how that part in VerTex^2 with high-percentage dizzy and drift is possible. It looks like a complete mess of arrows. Great job Roxor.
