I'm a double cobalt flux owner. But these pads have my interest as far as ITG goes. So tell me, whats up with the actuall buttons you step on? Are they like the TX's thin things? Or are they hard plastic over a decal? Like the CF. I've wanted to know what was up with that for some time? And the sensitivity, can anyone here compare it to the CFs? I bet you soon, RO will have this pad out with bars.

I was at an Anime Convention today. Pretty fun until I looked into the video game room and low and behold.... 5 AFTERBURNERS (and one old redoctane metal pad). I almost orgasmed right on the spot. Well after being quite intimate with the afterburners for a few hours, I'm gonna take my shot at a review.

First off, the first thing I noticed was the pad was sexy. It was sleek, shiny, heavy for sure, and it was just fun to look at. The thing is fully metal, built and feels solid. The arrows themselves are made of a strange kind of plastic. It feels quite soft, yet durable. The panels have almost a rubber-like property about them.

Getting on the pad, I tried Drop Out Heavy. Then came a problem. On the streams of constant jumps, I felt like the panels were springy and bouncy, sending me a lot higher than I would have prefered. THis kinda knocked me around a bit and I got a little disorientated. I do like the recessed panels though, and the corner buttons work very nicely (though I'd like to see a 9 button pad like the flux). The control box is a pretty sleek black, and isn't nearly as ugly as the first metal pad cboxes were. Now here was a recurring problem that I'm sure is just because there were so many people playing the games at once. The pins in the connectors bent quite a bit, and most of the pads were losing their sensitivity. I noticed quite a few pad misses on certain arrows on certain pads. I suppose they had two master pads hooked up to a projector because these pads were flawless. I also noticed that a few brackets had gone missing or were loose, but this is probably due to the extreme usage and the lack of maintainance. Also, at times, the pads didn't seem as sensitive as I thought they would be, but meh.

I don't know why they had 5 afterburners and no copy of in the groove, but just for the hell of it, this guy I met there and I just started randomly doing hands. OVerall, I disliked the feeling of the panels against my feet just because of it's rubbery quality, but now I can see why. This pad was built for hands. Hand plants were easy to execute agains the panels without having to exert too much effort on your hands, and the panels were soft so it didn't hurt to smack them.

Overall, for 200 dollars, it's a pretty nice pad, though the Flux is definately much better. The flux is more sensitive, as far as I know, the Flux is easier to maintain, and chances are the Flux will probably last a lot longer. It's a good pad for its price but I'd still reccomend investing in a flux.

The actual arrows you step on are just as sensitive as a CF.

Actually I highly doubt that. AF-Foil vs. CF-sheet meltal= K.O CF wins!

I didn't quite get that impression from playing on an Afterburner, but it did seem to be a pretty close second.

Hi. I am seriously considering buying this pad. It looks just as good as the Colbalt Flux pad, but it's about $100 dollars cheaper. I will only be playing on it using my Playstation 2. Since i am only 13, $200 is alot for me. I'm just wondering if this pad will last and be worth the money. I at one point actually considered getting that Cyphergames pad, until I found out how much you guys hate it. So now I want this pad. Plese help me make a logical decision.

Thanks guys.

WTF everytime I call redoctane to get my control box sent they're always busy. I make sure it's within business hours and I always go to operator. I was told to ask for harris but that doesn't help me when the directory is last name only! frust.gif

EDIT: nm I just got through but I was told to send the old box back so I guess that means I have to dish out some cash again.

Anyone know if any stores carry Afterburners? Like Best Buy or something?

I don't know of any. I wish they did though. If I had problems I could take it to them and get a return/exchange in like 30 min. instead of a week or two.

My new CB got here and it fixed my pad. IT WORKS NOW! I'm so happy. Hopefully it will continue to work. Now I can play ITG. Anyone know the life expectancy/reliability of the Afterburner??

Erm, I'm not sure on this so don't quote me on this. I heard some Frys stores (or was it Best Buy stores), sold the original RedOctane metal pads as well as Ignition pads (that were official from RedOctane).

Therefore, it may be possible that they do have Afterburners in stock. (Fry's/Best Buys).

I'm thinking that it's more likely that it'll be Fry's though.

I would definitely go towards the After Burner rather than the two TX's.

It might be because you're so far away it'd take forever for you to send it and get it back again.

I reccomend this pad. It seems worth it and eveeryone's trying to compete with it, at least CF is.

CF has better customer service and their pads are known to be well made and even have recessed arrows.

RO has sub par customer service and their pards have recessed arrows and are as sensitive as a CF, but you may have trouble with the control box.

I live on the east coast as well and it took one week to get here. But I ordered late on a Friday, bleh. I don't think supersaver shipping is available for the AB, though. It wasn't for me anyhow. Anyway if you ordered it early on a Monday I'd bet you'd get it by that Friday.
