All I see here are questions and no answers, but what the heck, I might get lucky. Has anyone heard of a problem like this:

My PS2/USB adapter has been working fine for a very long time. The past couple of day, the pad started acting funny. Mid-song it would stop registering. If I unplugged and plugged the controller back into the adapter, it would work fine again (until the next time it'd stop responding).

Now, it's a much worse problem: if I boot my computer with the pad/adapter connected, my PC locks up. In order to use my PC, I need to disconnect the pad.

Any ideas?

Where did you get that adapter thing, what is it called, and will it work for a Mac OS X? Is it for stepmania? Pleez tell.

I really can't help you out yet but if I get my own soon(of the same brand) I bet I can find out what's going on. This is just a guess, but you may have plugged in a few too many add ons to your PC, thus only allowing it to function when plugged back in and having it be "updated, current, etc." Stuff like this happens with my video game consoles.
And as I said, I DO NOT know much yet so dont take my advice as official or something.

Hey I've got one of those cheap pads with the green trim, and the led's all around. I've been reading this fourm and cannot find something that says that it will workwith it. The only thing that I read is negative things about it. I just want to get an adapter that will work good with it 4 stepmania.

This thread is huge. i had to stop at page 5

[This is a dupe of a post I made on the Cobalt Flux forums. DDRFreak may have a wider audience....]
System: Windows XP SP2, StepMania RC2a, Cobalt Flux with cbox V2
I bought an EMS Trio Linker (NOT the new Trio Plus) and it's working fine for Pump It Up but I'm having a problem with DDR. Simply put, the left/right and up/down axes aren't separating. When I step on the Left button the Right button is no longer recognized until I move off the Left. Same problem with the Up button when pressing Down. I have tried with both the default Windows driver, the driver that came with the Trio (version 1.3), and the newest driver from the EMS site (version 3.2).
I also tried holding Start+Select+Up, but I wasn't expecting much and I was right: nothing. What I've read says to do it inside StepMania. but if the OS isn't reading the signals right how would StepMania be able to magically figure them out?

I just recently purchased the Super Dual Box adapter because it was highly recommended both here and at Stepmania. I hooked it up all up today and started playing. While I was playing through some of the songs I realized that I was getting greats and goods when I thought that I should have been doing better than that. I was hitting the pad but it seemed to lag, and I felt like I had to stomp on the pad for it to work. It was a very awkward feeling. Then I changed to my second pad and the right and bottom arrows would work once or twice while playing a song then all of a sudden it would take a few seconds for it to register the step. I'm using an Intec dance pad (not the wireless one) and just to make sure it wasn't the pad I pulled out my DDR and it worked perfectly. So what's up? Is it my adapter? The settings? Any help would be appreciated.

i believe that's a lag problem
you just have to change that decimal thingy i once read on this forum
i think u just have to search around for it
some demical points would help.
edit: Oh just find the timing thread: http://www.ddrfreak.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=95076

but i have a problem too
just got my ps/ps2 to usb adapter(it's the winnar in the list)
so i was hoping it to work out without a hassel. but it turn out not what i was expect. My pads does work, but i can't really play any sounds. Whenever i use my arrows on my pad. it will respond for once and if u press it multiple times ( say in the song, <- after another <-.) i can only get the first one, then it wouldn't respond for the second one. in the menu, i can choose, but it only respond once then it just goes on a spree of tapping. i am sure my pads is working (Ignition) because i played it using my friend's playstation. so wat is the problem? drool.gif

EDIT:+++++
here is a link to the adapter i bought

I've gone through this thread; my problem seems original:

Game: Stepmania
Pad: Ignition 2.0
OS: Windows XP
Adapter: Buy 'n Shop printer port adapter
Driver: NTPad

Problem: I've followed the instructions exactly for using the NTPad driver. Before I used a driver, Stepmania (obviously) didn't recognize my pad at all. After using the NTPad driver, when I open Stepmania, the game continues to restart, go to the start menu, restart, etc, as if I had the select button depressed.

The pad works fine on my ps2. I also don't experience this problem when I plug a crappy mad catz pad into the printer port adapter; Stepmania runs and plays just fine. This means the problem has something to do both with the adapter/stepmania AND the pad. Any suggestions?

I a the Red Octane Ignition Pad 2.0 which hooks up to both PS2 and XBOX. I wanted to know which adapters would work best for me to hook up to my pc for stepmania? I have read that some have compatibility issues and I want to make sure I get one that will work with my pad. Also where can I buy it?

I think there may be a simple solution to my problem, but I don't know it. I have the blue adapter commonly found on Ebay, I think it's called super dual box? Ok, well, everything tests out fine on the control panel game controllers window, the input works fine on the "test input" function of stepmania, and it EVEN appears that i can push multiple arrows at the same time. However, when i try to play, none of the steps that i make reflect in my dance meter, it just goes straight down and fails me, even if I'm making combos. I tried it using the arrow keys on the keyboard and it works fine that way. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated! E1.gif

Quick question: I purchased my Ignition 3.0 pad. It says that it has the PC USB connector. I hope I didn't throw any of it away, but is it supposed to come with PS2-USB adaptor? Or am I just being dumb? Haha.

Does anyone know how well the BNS parallel port adapter is? I just ordered it.

Edit: I just got it today, but the driver I downloaded (NTPAD) doesn't work well. Are there any other drivers for this?

had simelar probs: smartjoy with cf ... oops, doenst work.
with ems usb2 it was working, but... that adapter got about 80ms lag, too much if perfect windows is 30ms.

whenever you have a controlbox with xbox port you can mod it to usb (at least it is working for sure with windows 2k/xp).

www.ddrlag.de.vu maybe you like the pdf document.

ive already soldered 4 xbox controlboxes to work at usb port.

driver working on xp professional and on notebook with xp home edition, so i guess there wont be any problems with this driver. and best thing is that u dont need to buy an adapter, just cut off a part of an usb cable and connect it as explained with the controlbox outgoing xbox cable.

takes ~30 minutes to do this, ~10 minutes if you have done it a few times E1.gif

and parallel port shdnt be used because it also has a little bit bigger lag.
usb has a polling rate of 125Hz (meaning every second it will be asked 125 times if there are some 'new infos about pressed buttons'. but u can use a driver for windows or change it in the sourcecode in linux to change to 1000Hz polling rate. so the 0-8ms delay will be reduced to 0-1ms delay.

only problem now is that it is already far precise enough to recognise that the official mp3 dwi songfiles are not that sync as once thought. bpm vary between ~ 0.5 bpm, so moves the song ending about 40-50ms too early/late,
and offset of the songs is most times 1-5ms wrong.
