Excellent review, El Mullet! Easily the most thorough I've seen in a long time.
It's too bad about the boring steps on the lower levels. I was really hoping ITG could create its own fanbase of non-godly players - from the ground up. From what you say, it sounds like ITG is largely going to rely on DDR to create good enough players to appreciate it. The noob player, while under-represented on most discussion boards, is vital for the financial health of any franchise with high ambitions.
I'm looking forward to the game making its way into Central Georgia so I can give it a try and judge it for myself. |

heh yep mine was second day air
Oh, it was you who made that review El Mullet? I never noticed the screen name there ... One thing about that review, you CAN change the song sort but just not during the song selection screen. It's under Options then Game Options. Then in there, there should be a spot called "Song Sort". By default, it's on Easy Meter, but you can move it up to Medium, Hard, Title.. Something like that. Just to let ya know! Great game! Loading times are uuuggghh... but the game seems easier... Oh ya the difficulty must be easier... and the Syncronization seems little more different than the arcade... That's just my two cents, I know some don't agree on that. Oh but one thing! Censoring the word "Sexy" while playing Romeo and Juli8?!?!?!?! YOU'VE GATTA BE KIDDING ME! _________________

So how bad *are* the easier and mid-level steps? Specifically, how are the steps at the 6-8 levels, and doubles at 5-7?
I'm trying to figure out if this is worth it for me, since I'm tempted by the idea of so many completely new songs, as well as the longer song length, but if the steps are completely awful... |

You said that the difficulty bar ranges from 1-12; therefore, does it do something special for Pandemonium (screen turns black, the difficulty bar adds 1 and turns blood red, the color seeping down the screen like a bloody wound...)? Just curious about that fact. Also (though anyone with the game can likely answer this), how are unlocks performed, and at what frequency? Is it the same "good faith" approach of DDR home versions (just play the song, don't pass it), or must you actually pass the song for it to count? I'd like to know what kind of work I'm in for... |
I will admit to not unlocking Pandemonium at the time the review was written. I've unlocked a fair amount of songs already, though, and used that as the basis when talking about the song list. I apologize if this puts a damper on the review, but deadlines and tiredness had to put a slight rush on things. Although your Pandemonium scenario sounds intriguing. I'll look forward to unlocking it.

I can't comment on Doubles as of yet, as I never had two pads of the same quality to work with. However, as far as Singles go, I found songs rated 1-6 to be boring and repetitive. You'll see the same patterns loop over and over, and it looks like not a lot of effort was put into them. Things DO pick up once you reach 7 and higher. I don't think I encountered a chart on 7-8 I hated yet (that didn't have mines and hands, of course). _________________

WIRED doesn't usually do video games, or dance games at the very least.

You're kidding, right? Every month they at least have half a page dedicated to 4 video game synopses they deem worthy in their magazine. They've also done reviews for controllers and other peripherals and sometimes dedicate a page or so to some aspect of a particular game like a behind-the-scenes thing or some new gameplay innovation. And they're always nice in including a game console when there's, like, a home entertainment system being reviewed for some mass remodeling in your home setup. |

a few things that should probably be clarified:
-you CAN change song sort by hitting in the song selection menu.
-the game only seems easier because it is nearly dead-on compared to the arcade
-the timing windows are almost certainly the same
-oh well, censoring sucks. big deal.
-in the arcade, it only shows 12 bars for pandemonium, but the number 13 is next to it. so this is accurate. |

Ha! woke up late my ITG is sitting under the sun! Just got mine now I know what their talking on the load times. I agree it is kind of long but 5 to 7 seconds is not bad. I dont see it annoying at all. ITG is great. _________________

The load times aren't bad at all. If you've got HDLoader. :-)
By the way, people in Southwest Michigan should start raiding stores now. Looks like it's showing up.

the load times are inexcusable because there isnt very much to load. a stepchart and a 2 minute song? like i said earlier, the load times are almost as bad as NFSU2, which has to load an entire 3d, interactive city. the load times after a song are also long, when you get your grade and go back to the menu. it does hurt the game, as does lack of edit mode, but it looks like what few copies were made/shipped were bought up right away, so i dont think roxor is worried about their sub-par ps2 release. _________________

What's really strange is that the Game is already active on the computers at work (no more preordering) but NO ONE has it in, hell, no one has really heard of it other than me. I'll have them check packing slips tis week to see if we'll even get it in, but I'm not sure. According to th computer, we (Gamestop) should already be able to sell and trade them. No one I talked to seems to know whats going on. So I have no idea if AZ Gamestops are getting it or what, it might just come in at random, or on trade in only. |

I checked every store in my area (2 Gamestops and a EB) since Sunday.
Nada. I had to tell them that it was like DDR, except harder.
Well, I checked EB and the lady at the counter was nice enough to hold ITG when it comes in. Oddly enough, the other stores in the 'district' had 2 a piece but not this one. So tomorrow, before I take my senior pictures.
Maybe I can get a little play time... _________________

The load times are probably a bit longer than you might expect because of the 3D arrows nd FMVs. |
