I read the EGM review for it about 3 weeks ago. Their main reasons for not liking it were:
-Long load times
-Very high difficulty level
-The style of music

Although it's not like they didn't like it, they gave it decent ratings (6.5 is decent because on the EGM scale 5 is average), it just doesn't appeal to a large group of people.

You have to realize many of the people who do reviews for games don't play any music games. And these music games are difficult because instead of controlling a character and making decisions. Music games are different where you much match the computer exactly to do well. Not very fun at first. But we who play these games are used to the style, and do better and go past the initial re-play factor.

I agree the difficulty is definitely up there, way more than DDR. A main problem is the learning curve that ITG has... or the lack thereof. For us, who have played DDR/ITG before, it's not difficult. But to just pick this up, will not make it easy to learn.

Those overall DDR scores seem accurate to me.

I was looking forward to purchasing the game but I might have second thoughts about it, especially if there's the load times that I hear of.

If you are a fan of DDR, then you willl like ITG. If you are not a fan of DDR, then you think this game is just another stupid dance game. I bet it is a bit of the latter that is skewing the review. Gamerankings.com actually classifies ITG as a puzzle game. Shows you the lack of knowledge these review sites have about the game.

If you want to know the real review just look on this site. The only gripes I keep reading are the load times and the music. I happen to like the music and I didn't even notice the load times after a few songs.

I agree with Renee, and I've said it before, the scores from the reviews are right where they should be; no more, no less.

I'm writing a review of ITG for work when I get the game in the coming days. If it's everything as the other reviewers say it is, then it will probably get the same type of score from me (I go on a score of 1 to 4, with no intervals). But I don't know how the arcade version translates to home, so I won't make any guesses yet.

And like Phrekwenci said, you have to realize that these reviewers are likely not designated toward one genre, and it's hard to put music games with other controller-based games.

I know that good reviews are going to be key to getting this game to sell to the non-ddrfreak and non-itgfreak crowd; I've had people rip me for giving some "Sims" games poor reviews, but that's another story for another day.

I'm strongly inclined to e-mail every possible major magazine publisher sans GamePro (due to their mass faggotry) to at least make a noticeable note somewhere to re-assert themselves as reviewers for average gamers and have URLs of major ITG/DDR/Bemani sites where the gamers themselves can express their views of the game, fan-wise and..."average"-wise. It would help the series greatly for ITG, ITG2, and when EXTREME 2, ULTRAMIX 3, and, most importantly, beatmania come out.

Think about ITG for a second - DDR is too easy, we'll make something more challenging.

Now look at the totally average person trying to play DDR. Is MAX300 too easy? Why would they feel a desire to play anything other then DDR?

but it wouldnt of killed them to of made easy charts that wernt just stupid though

part of the problem is that when you have such a long song anything easy will seem boring quite possibly they should of edited down songs for the easyer difficutlties too to avoid the steps seeming to drag more than they do

ITG's supposed to be difficult:

then why even bother putting any thing less than hard in the game

its a waste of disk space and time/effort to put on

They want to appeal to everyone. That's one of their reasons to even censor songs in the game. They want to sell it, etc.

They need to have some kind of learning curve, even if it's steep.

Edit: Also what St00pidBaka said.

that review says it best, from a long time DDR player to an ITG player, he gives it an average 6/10

and really, i mean 6/10 is good for the first game they have ever done for PS2

This is still only their first release, DDR didn't even have a beginner type level of difficulty when it started, im sure they will have better steps and more thoughtout stepcharts second time around...
