Hey, is it possible to connect a Beatmania IIDX controller to a PC using a "generic" PS2-to-USB converter? I may want to use that with a IIDX emulator thingamabobber, or even use it as a controller for some programs I'm going to work on.

I'm reasonably certain that the answer is yes. All the buttons aside from the turntable are strictly buttons, and even the turntable can be mapped to a single button for purposes of gameplay. I think it functions as the D-pad in menu navigation, but since you never need to hit left+right at the same time, that's kinda moot. You'd be able to remap the buttons in Windows, so it should work fine.

For what it's worth, I just got my first IIDX controller, and decided to try using it with a PC sim in addition to the proper games. I'm using the game Delight Delight Reduplication, but assume other games have the same mapping functions Cutriss talked about. My converter is the dual-port one from Red Octane, which works well for my DDR pads. Using that, I was able to assign each button, and each direction of turntable to an in game function. So, in the mapping screen, you can pick "Song select up", then move the turntable one direction, then pick "Song select down", and move the turntable the other direction. It's basically two buttons all to itself.

The mapping function I'm talking about is more of a Windows thing than a game-specific thing. The Windows device setup tool will allow you to map the buttons to DirectInput controls (aka - Button1, Button2, Button3, etc). Then you map *those* in your game. Because everything you play should already support DirectInput.

I've also been thinking about building a program that would let a person use a small array of IIDX controllers (at least two) for live music performance.
