Thank you muchly for the reply. We found a rather simple solution - we simply rewired a cheap pad to have the A, B, X, and Y buttons press simultaneously the arrows for the jumps he isn't able to do. We're still working on how to figure out something for taps, but he's a happy camper at the moment, anyway. :-)

How much is the shipping for the official IIDX controller from Lik-Sang or Playasia or wherever? On ebay the controller itself is less, but shipping is 50 bucks.

I got the KOC from Play-Asia for 125 bucks, shipped back in March. I used the cheaper option, UPS. It really depends on where you live. I also go for more of the arcade style feel. I use a TV dinner stand with a 6 inch "booster" that my dad designed for me. It feels a LOT different playing standing up than playing with it on your lap or on a stand with you sitting down. Heck, I got better grades with the thing (Controller, Booster, Stand) than the TV Dinner stand sitting down. It stands at 31 inches (after the booster). If you need any more info, let me know.

As far as I have seen in the 7th style manual, the ASC's are switchable.

Mod instructions for the KOC (since I am feeling generous):

Cardboard mod:
1: Find the eject button for the key bank and remove it.
2: unscrew the 6 screws on the bottom of the key bank and remove the bottom.
3: unscrew the 2 screws from the board and remove the board.
4: remove the 7 key plungers and set them aside.
5a: grab a dime and a used cereal box.
6a: draw 7 - 21 circles on the box (depending on if you want 1 - 3 layers)
7a: cut on the inside of the circles (to ensure that they will fit inside the plungers).
8a: put the desired amount of layers inside the plungers.
5b: If you got a plastic bingo cage grab 7 bingo chips, a dime and a cereal box.
6b: draw 7 circles on the cereal box and cut inside the circles.
7b: put 1 circle inside the plunger.
8b: put the chip on the key with the lip side down.
9: put the plunger back onto the keys, making sure that the plunger springs back into place immediately after pushing the plunger down. If it sticks a bit trim the cardboard.
10: put the board back onto the plungers (make sure that the keys align with the outlines) and screw the gold screws into place. Test for desired key action.
11: put the back on (Make sure that the holes are aligned) and screw the 6 black screws tightly.
12: Slide the bank into place.

Slip Mod:
1: Unscrew the 10 black screws from the back of the controller
2: Unscrew the turntable from the controller (there's only 1 gold screw sitting on a washer and a spring.
3: grab a donut from the turntable.
4: Get some wax paper and a razor.
5: set the donut onto the wax paper and cut it out CAREFULLY.
6: put the donut onto a different area of wax paper and cut again CAREFULLY.
7: save the 2 wax donuts and toss the waste wax paper.
8: put in the donuts in the following order (I will be referring to the ones that came in the controller as plastic) from the turntable: wax, plastic, wax, plastic.
9: put the turnable back into the controller and reassemble the controller.
I say carefully because any shreds will cause you to get poors even if you scratch with perfect timing (the shreds will fall onto the TT sensors.

Okay, I've been considering purchasing the so-called "midgit" Pop'n controller. I've heard a lot of complaining in this thread about its... being a midgit.

I'll deal with the size if it only compromizes the "authenticity" of the play, but from what I hear, it's very small, and I have big hands. They're not monsterously huge, but they're still pretty big... has anyone had a problem with their hands being too big to use the controller?

Also, somewhere earlier in this thread, someone was selling homemade arcade-sized controllers. Are they still selling them, and if they are, can someone give me a link or something?

The most popular home made ASC seller are the ransai people, ransai.bemanistyle.com.

DesktopArcade also sells them, and so does controllica, but I have heard bad things about them. I personally built my own ASC.

But still, when you think aboot it there wouldnt be a need for headphones when you play on a big Sony stereo.

But when its 3am, you just recently had a 12 pack of Dr. Pepper, and you have the urge to play some bemani, you can plug your headphones into the jack in your TV/stereo if you dont wanna wake people up. (I do it all the time with Taiko Drumaster
