I've drawn a crowd of 50+ people at San Diego Sea World doing my warm up routine for Mienkinko Rock with my girlfriend then we did Butterfly(lost most of the people cause the routine was gay) and then Dynamite Rave(got most of the people back)
So Freestyling does help to earn crowds.
But maybe if you would run a MAX or PARANOiA set you would pull crowds. _________________

I think when the crowd sees someone doing a 9/10 footer they watch for a second and then leave becasue they realize they probably couldnt do that. But when they see someone on light, the crowd will watch the whole couple songs they do becasue they think they could actually do that themselves. The 9's and 10 footers could be intemidating to the crowd i guess. |

I found that the very few times I've been to an arcade, the more "understandable" the music is, the better of a crowd it draws. I found that tracks like B4U (B4 ZA Beat Mix) and There You'll Be drew the best crowds.
However, the tracks I did were all on heavy/oni, so the "I can't do that" theory didn't seem to apply. However, I believe that theory makes a great deal of sense. While I was there, some guy did V for Extreme on Oni and AA'd it, and that happened to be one of my favorite songs that I couldn't yet pass on Oni (but I did just pass it tonight, finally!). I was definitely a little intimidated, but more in awe
I've also noticed that people that don't regularly play games shy away from people who are really into them, be it a social thing or a competitive thing; this could definitely apply to DDR as well, in a big degree. |

i think it matters alot on how the song sounds and how well the arrows match up with the song and how stupid/cool you look up there, there was this really nerdy kid at the mall i go to playing so deep then burning heat then maxx unlimited or something and he barely got anyone, then some cooler looking guy comes up does tsugaru, maxx unlimited, and tsugaru again and he has this huge crowd ( all oh heavy by the way) it seems alot of crowds seems to like tsugaru, ill admit it sounds cool as it is also my favorite song _________________

Playing at Busch Gardens Williamsburg, it's been my experience that crowds are typically full of n00bs, who might've never seen the game. (Maybe it's just me, but I hardly ever see anyone at BGW who can pass Catas or above.) People often comment on how it must be a real workout, probably because I'm always gasping for air (allergies) and sweating like a pig (fat and ugly). I find that the size of the crowd you attract is directly proportional to the amount of noise I make on the pad (Think Drop Out Maniac jumps), or how strange/chaotic the steps sound (Matsuri Japan's opening gallops are good for getting a crowd quickly, or something like So Deep). Out of possibly altruistic courtesy, my friends and I will begin a small crowd around anyone playing, no matter how good or bad they are, since you (usually) have more fun with people watching. |
