OK. Whenever I go to the arcade I always play on Heavy and do mostly 9 footers. Sometimes I will attract a crowd. They might watch me finish my current song, stay for a few seconds, possibly watch me do the next song. Thats about it though. And yet I remember the first day I played DDR it was me and this girl and we were doing beginner mode and attracted like a huge crowd. I also see people who play on Standard attracting bigger crowds (even though standard members arent necciserilly N00bs)

Why is this. Am I the only one who gets this or am I just crazy? If im right, could it possibly be because the crowds can understand the arrows better with a light or standard member than a Heavy member? E19.gif

Sometimes crowds get scared away by all the crazy madness of 10's and 9's, so they just leave. I have the same problem. disgust.gif

im guessing when they see easier songs they think "maybe i could do that" so they watch to see what they could be getting into, but when they see hard songs they probably think "this is a guy who spends his whole day here and memorized everything, i cant do this"

Dude I feel that same way I was playing and I was just screwing around on Stand. "Speed over beethoven" few spins and wat not nothing fancy and I got this giant crowd honestly 15 or so people. Then I"m playing the other day doing heavy and stuff more working on just getting better and got nothing man
though you have to remember that sometimes its just who is there, or how crowded it really is.

i got a sizeable crowd as a result of the first 2 stages of 'pop4 difficult', which i thought was wierd because its cartoon heroes and irresistiblement, both std. sure, i full combo'd both of them, but the crowd was obviously too far away to be impressed by that. they even started clapping after cartoon heroes.... My nearest Nickel Nickel is the best for crowds. Especially on a Friday. I actually got tips from people thinking that I and my friends were the entertainment. And n00bs that were watching were constantly discussing every AA that I got (which was every song I did that night) I only failed 1 Extra stage which was LoM with me on the down and left arrows and my friend on the up and right. It was pretty cool. I made $34.50 that night for nothing but playing a game.....

I think its true bout the crowds coming to watch people on standard and light because they can read it. I have seen people slightly moving their feet acting as if they are doing the song. When i do heavy people just say that kid spends way to much time practicing songs. Then they watch the sucky people and think hey i can do that, that kid is kool.

I hate crowds that come behind me. One time I was doing Healing Vision (AM) and i got like 15-18 people behind me. Also what I hate is when people get up on the side that your not playing on (which for me it's always 2P) and either 1. Sit on the pad and watch you or 2. try to do the steps that ure doing. I HATE IT!

The answer lies in the question.

Wow, I guess it is. E1.gif
I would get crowds at this arcade in a 6 Flags place that had like 15 to 20 people (one time it rained and the arcade was the only shelter, so there were like a billion people watching E4.gif ). It was a 3rd mix machine and I didn't know how to get to SSR, so I just played standard. When I did figure it out, I never got crowds anymore, just like 2 people. It is a strange thing. 4 footers seem to get the most crowds though.
That should be a project. I will test how many people you get in a crowd depending on what songs you play. Although, the crowdedness changes... blink.gif

well arround where i live when i am watching noobs i can hear people say things like:oh this guy sucks lets watch him.i think a percentage of the crowd watch people who they are better then or think suck.but then again i might be worng and this is just what i have seen where i live.and then again people may be amased by noobs like the one guy said cause they can follow it like when i use to play light mode i A'd telephone operator and people where claping but like i mounth ago on heavy i a'd .59 and la copa de la veta and no one clapped so it can go eather way i guess

I find that if you do attract a crowd you have to do standard or light because people think that if your just that kid who goes absolutely nutz on the pad doing a paranoia or a maxx song then you have no life but this game. They don't want to see that. The n00bs do cause it's something for them to aspire to. I remember when the first time I saw someone that pounded out a just captain jack on standard and I was like "whoa... I could never do that"
What people really want to see is the songs they can see themselves doing! If an average non-DDRer sees a kid doing a beginner song then they say to themselves "Hey, that looks easy, I could do that, not in front of these people though..."
BUt a n00b watching someone A PSMO then they're like whoa! I wish I could do that and then the process of practicing X amount of days/months/years to get that damn good.

Freestyling can attract big crowds at King's Dominion here, but if you want to attract a crowd at our local arcade, you have to do something psychotic. (i.e. AA the extra extra stage)

where i play, the people on light get more attention than us people on heavy. but we get more respect on heavy and we actually know all the people that play, generally the people on light dont talk to anybody. i definitly think "n00bs" get more attention, for whatever reason..

At my arcade its either me or some other awsome guy there, i play heavy and the only time i get people to watch is when people come up and ask "are u really good"? and i say im OK then do a song with a lot of stream... that gets them all hyped up E13.gif

Ya, stream does seem to attract people. Its funny. Whenever I go to see a movie I always show off on the machine because its right by where the people line up to buy snacks. So I'll do COW GIRL and I mean...I love those steps, but it kinda looks dumb when ur watchin someone do it. All those gallops laugh.gif So then I'll do like HVAM or Irresistiblement or Senorita or something.....something with at least some form of stream in the song.
