Alright, who have you seen play that suprised you the most on DDR.

I am rarely caught off-guard, I have come to expect anyone to be really good at the game, it really has no demographic. However, I once saw a 6 year old playing 9-footers. I could pass them better than him, but still, it was pretty impressive.

However, one of my friends got caught off-guard once. We were at Knott's Berry Farm, and there was a DDRExtreme machine there. I hopped on for a few games (Me = Heavy player) and a few people showed up, and a coin line formed. My friend, Zach, (Zach = Light/Standard player) said to the next person after him in the coin line "Hey, you want to play on the game with me?" The next person, of course, was a girl 1 or 2 years younger than us (Zach is a flirt). Now, he didn't make the mistake of saying anything about how he didn't think she was any good cause she was a girl, but it showed in his voice. I just stepped back and grinned, I couldn't tell if she was good, but I hoped, for the sake of later ridicule for Zach, that she was.

So, they started picking levels, they both picked light. Damn, things didn't look so good for her kicking him around. Then they picked songs. "After you, m'lady." Oh, Zach, what a gentleman. She picks 321 Stars. She holds the start button, puts in on a speed mod, and ups the step level to heavy. Zach makes his mistake "Are you sure you want heavy?" She grins, and starts the song. He flails around and gets a C on light, she gets an A. He is absolutely stunned. I just laugh, and he still hasn't heard the end of it.

I have seen some interesting people play though. I saw a punk guy with blue and pink hair play. I wanted to steal his hair. I got my choir director on the machine once, he sucked...but it was funny.(he still denies it happened, despite the pictures.) A girl I know is a 5 foot nothin' asian girl, she is about as good as me (It's fun playing with her when people are watching, we do all the same FS moves on the few songs we FS, so it looks reeeeeeally cool.) I have seen alot of guys who seem very slow on their feet bust out on a DDR machine. In the end, I have seen all sorts play.

Lets just say, that im rather tall, and im known for having no balance what so ever. The first time I went on a DDR machine after home practice with a metal pad my friends jaw dropped. Such a nice feeling.

Then I remember this one girl I played with about a week ago, she couldnt have been more than 8 years old. She asks if she wants to play, I say yes, reluctantly because most of the time they just flail around and do nothing. She picked heavy difficulty, and she was doing them about as well as me... that impressed me to no end. Needless to say when im forced to pick a partner to play with at the arcade I usually pick her now, all the other ones are morons. laugh.gif

EDIT: BBQ means in the order of burned/owned/roasted/destroyed, its just a way of saying you got owned E7.gif

Go check Mid-Atlantic Forums, he's a user here.

http://www.ddrfreak.com/phpBB2/profile.php?mode=viewprofile&u=34249

Basically, he's a little jewish boy, about 11-12 years old with his own machine in his house. He takes most people to school at the tournaments we go to.

I didn't mean owned...or roasted...or barbeque....

I meant BBQ. He's a person E10.gif

boom.gif I used to live in harrisburg I think... I think I know this guy. Him and Kevin are always running tournaments. They still shock me for their age. boom.gif Sucks I had to move to NJ.(see Midatlantic/Depford Mall forum)
I try to get over it but it's easier to get to a machine and more friends are always good. E4.gif

In my experience, unlikely DDR masters come in two forms:

1) The overweight 40-something man with a stained white T-shirt.
and
2) The adorable little 10-year-old girl.

I've seen various incarnations of such people kicking all kind of DDR buttocks many times. Back in the days when I sucked at DDR, I got schooled for the very first time by one such 10-year-old girl.

Cool, but when i was at the arcade, i saw like a 7 year old do standard while i was doing standard mode too (but not criticizing, he did the easy songs).
Good for his age, but not as impressive as that 8 year old doing 9 footers.

It'll be wierd to see this teenager or somethin ask if he could play but pretend that he didn't know how to play, then he plays at least 8 footers.

It doesn't take some ppl a long time to go on heavy mode.

I've been playing for 5 months now, and I pass some 10 footers.
(2 months light, 1 month standard, 2 months heavy)

The only time I was really impressed was at a tournament a little while ago. I knew all the good players in the area so I wasn't expecting any surprises. There was a bunch of people that I didn't know who were going for the standard category, but no surprise there. Some of them couldn't pass all the standard songs. But then there was a qualifier to see who should go in heavy and who should stay in standard. The qualifying song was Trip machine Climax. erm.gif Heavy... Then there was a really cute girl that came in late and that nobody had ever seen before. We weren't expecting much because the odds of someone secretly training in their basement for a while and only go to her first tournament once she can beat everyone was pretty slim. She got on the pad and she died only near the end of the song. Everyone who was failing was going in standard category. I talked to her later and told her she did pretty good for an unknown player. She then said : "Yeah well... I had never played that song before. " lol.

heh i know this one guy. he looks like he should've been on standard/heavy but he was still on light =P i got up beside him and started playing heavy.. and there was another guy who was bigger than most people playing heavy with me just about the same. they told me afterwards that they didn't expect a 13 year old to be that good. made me feel good laugh.gif

One time, I convinced my Grandma to play DDR.
We were at home, on Disney Mix, and it was Christmas Eve, so most of the family was there.

She played It's a Small World on Basic, and failed. She got mad and kept trying, over and over, but never passed. It was funny to watch. Then my Grandpa tried, and he failed also. After that, my Uncle tried, and beat it.

My grandma was so angry she accused him of having played before (the song is a 1 footer) and made him move up to Trick. He failed.

It was just funny to see how worked up she got.

Yeah, that's my point exactly. I wasn't expecting her to be so good and yet it was her first try at the song. erm.gif

From what I've gathered, most people don't expect to see a 5'10 fat chick doing Tsugaru heavy. And well, at that.

I love surprising people. E13.gif

i was PWNing (X2) some girl 1 age younger than me at Sakura. she was on light,me standard. when some chick came up and said "are you Jeff's little brother" Jeff is my brother, so i said that. she put her coin on the machine. I expected to beat her when, she did Drop Out, heavy, X2 and got a A. then Across the Nightmare, heavy, X1.5 and got a B. i was stunned. Thats when i began to take ddr alot more seriously, 3 trips to the arcade later I was doing My Summer Love, heavy, X2, with only 1 almost.
