The TX-4000 is the same pad but w/o the bar.
I have played the TX-5000 at my local LAN CENTER Izone. They are REALLY AWSOME! we had a tournament awhile ago. There were alot of AAA's and I got a few AA's. It takes a couple songs to get used to it but after that its so fun to play on.
They are really stong too. one guy here allmost passed Delirium from ITG. He got too tired to finnish. It handles Hands and Quads fine. (Queen of light anyone?
The bars are fine, not like arcade but they still are solid bars.
Its great for doubles also. There is no doubles connecter but eeh its okay.
So if you have the money, BUY IT! Serriously I would pick this over a CF anyday. (Yes i have played many times on a CS. they are awsome but these blow them out of the water)
::EDIT:: YES! I CLAIMED ANOTHER PAGE. _________________

visit www.cobaltflux.com and watch the scores. they say its the best pad although it its production and gamefeelings are cheaper than the one of tx2000. there is no pad which just makes u get AAAs.
maybe u played on stepmania judge 4, or on playstation versions which are also not as hard as arcade judge settings, but thats one main difference of what kind of pads we like.
there are the people who want to become better and better on arcade, so need an arcade-like feeling pad. and there are the want to get best scores but dont care about arcade (they play with a C400 mod, dont care about lag and shd play stepmania with judge 1 ) but in my opinion the quality of a pad depends on the close feeling to the arcade version. maybe nearly AAA some songs at home, but only the arcade scores count |

Funny, I thought the arcade was obsolete . Anyway there is no TX-4000 the stainless steel pad with no bar is the TX-3000 (at least according to EBay) I have been using this thing for a few weeks now and it works very well. There are no issues with the durability - it still works fine even though I play every night and average about 3000 steps per game for about 3-4 games (love those SM megamixes). One note is that the bar loosens up over time so it is necessery to tighten the bolts with the 'bar tool'. I also discovered that when wearing socks, it is not necessery to remove your foot from the pad to unload the sensor. I was able to 'slide' my feet over the circle in the center to hit jump combos in Cartoon Heroes (LD-LR-UR) with no actual jumping, just sliding my feet. My girlyfriend immediately informed me that I was 'cheating'. Of course she says the same thing about using the bar and speed mods (even though she plays with the 'note' skin) I think I will be getting an afterburner so I will be able to compare and contrast the two pads. |

as long as the arcade uses 4 microswitches per button and the homepads dont even have 1 real switch per button, i dont think that homepads can get ahead of the arcade version.
bar and double, both not working best with homepads (and also hardly possible), but at least the pad surface and the activating even when hitting an edge shd be solved.
normal that tx3000 doesnt break. take a tx2000, remove the surface, make the middle box to a circle, put a sheet metal over it and u have a tx3000.
because of sheet metal the cf buttons also dont break, but it is still far aways from being a professional pad. dont trust me? give me 2 months time |

I live in the same city as bunny and personally, my only problem with this pad is that the buttons are hard to feel for, and because my feet are somewhat large, its sorta hard for me to find them. using the bar though helps me keep my place.
Also, the only reason home scores wouldnt count is the timing window is slightly different for perfects. it is larger in home versions. the rest of the timeing other than the perfect window is identical _________________

No, every window other than the Marvelous window is bigger. Marvelous is the same size, however. _________________

Seriously though. It already has those little support legs on the back, how else would you be able to strengthen the bar? |

I actually like this pad better than my afterburner because the step area is smaller and the bar has made a much better bar hugger at the arcade (I can finnaly save my arse at the end of Speed Over Beethoven maniac ) the bar is stronger than on the original tx-2000 Even the tx-2000+ from Europe featured these bars with the same supports. Anyway the supports dont't help that much because they seems to be pretty flimsy, just enough to get some bar skills. I do think the pad is heavy enough to handle a good sized bar so I'm trying to customize a little so I can bong Thomas and all I'll post some pics. BTW The afterburner is a much better choice if you focus on arcade performance and PA, no doubt - the step area on the TX-5000 is much smaller than the afterburner. I therefore recommend to get the afterburner unless you understand why you might want to use a bar. I will be getting a second afterburner and not a second tx-5000, but I will play mainly on the 5000. |

Well, the part that connects the bar to the pad seems to be a tad weak. I don't know how it is attached in the first place, but after about two weeks, the ones at our LAN center had to be rebolted on. Right now, the pads are bolted to a large peice of plywood, and I assume the bars are bolted to that.
As of now, the only problems with the pads are caused by one of the players kicking the front side of the pad off and possible kinking a few of the wires up, making that paticular pad partially unresponsive. Also, one of the bars is is loose on one side
IMO, it would be better to to get a pair of cobalt fluxes rather than these. Esspecially with the mod kit cobalt flux is releasing soon. I would recommend the Afterburner, but as it is still less than a month old, it would be better to err on the side of caution until we know for sure that it can last. _________________

Good rule of thumb: never buy from a group that so horribly rapes punctuation. If they can't even get English right, what are the chances they can build an electronic floorpad? |

can you get pics of the control box? Is it like one box w/three cords coming out, or does it have teh interchangable plugs like the ITG ignition does? _________________

The control box for the TX-5000 is the same layout as the afterburner. It has a 9-pin serial cable that connects the pad to the control box. There is a dedicated PS2 connector and a second connector which changes between xbox and usb. Both pads detect on the PC as 'xbox DDR'
The bar does come loose over time and has to be tightened, especially if you abuse it on HVAM and Break Down, but it is strong enough to learn to use it in the arcade. |

Actually there wasn't one way back when when I wrote that On topic I am happy to report that my TX5K is still working fine - no obvious durability issues. I was thinking of doing an 'arcade style' mod on the thing except there is an issue with the 5K - the area that 'registers' is circular shaped and not square; you have to step in the middle of the arrow or it doesn't register. It really forces you to step in the middle of the arrow which isn't really helping me to learn to play flat-footed like my afterburner [/broken record] |
