The thing nobody here realizes is that people have different opinions. Forcing yours down somebody else's throat is not going to make them realize yours, instead, it's going to make them hate your opinion even more.

Why can't things ever compliment each other with you people? Why can't you like both DDR and ITG and PIU and all the other damned games out there. I suppose it traces back to our countries roots.. those being political ones of course.

Although I say all this, make all these points, and overall try to get some people to put things in perspective, it's not like anybody will read this and think anything other than "lol ddr is kool cuz it wus 1st!" or "itg is the rox cuz its challanginz!! hahahehah!!", but a guy can pray. E1.gif

One opinion can be superior to another opinion:

Case in point: Consider the following two opinions, "One should treat others as one would like to be treated," or "One should despise all Jewish people." They are both opinions, but I think you will agree that one is superior morally.

If I wanted to change your mind if you had the second, I would argue for the first. In doing so I would attempt to show that my opinion was better supported and stronger reasoned. That is what people are doing on this thread.

I disagree. For example:

If I was a Nazi, then I would agree with the second opinion. It would go with my morals, and would seem normal. The applies for most racist individuals. However, since I am not either a racist or an anti-semite, I agree with the first opinion.

Just because one opinion is that of a majority, such as the first one in your example, doesn't over rule another such as the second, and that is what I'm trying to say. There could be five ITG players and a single DDR player arguing, but just because there is only one DDR player doesn't mean that their opinion is worthless. Or vice versa. The main problem with arguments on this forum is that people do not realize that not everybody sees things the same way as themselves.

And as for me, I guess I've said enough. It was nice to be actually heard by somebody on these forums without being banned or warned for stepping outside the normal posting boundaries here. E1.gif

I was thinking more of the Smiley songs, which seem to be the biggest offenders in my mind for messy stepcharts. With the exception of July, and possibly Xuxa. I find Eurphoria's stepchart, especially during the slowdown, to be just... strange. I think it's made artificially difficult and after listening to the song many, many times I still don't think the 32nds or 64ths or whatever they are are justified. And the Utopia rhythm challenge once again is a showing of the kind of "aesthetic atrocities" I'm pointing out. Having a whole X bars of right arrows (on a seemingly random rhythm; yes, I'm slowly figuring it out but I still am not completely sure what I'm following in the song). It's weird and kind of hard to point out what I'm judging the charts on, but I was also unfairly harsh. There are some Expert charts which I think are great; especially the 9's. I had a select few stepcharts in mind when I was talking about "messyness," and I actually like stuff like Lemmings on the Run. There's no reason for the 16th runs, but I still like them. =P

i don't think that euphoria on challenge is possible. how can u lift ur foot up on a freeze step?

Okay, I'm done.

Of course, but I wasn't arguing it did.

Murdering Jewish people isn't wrong because most people agree it isn't, it's wrong because it is in violation of a moral law given to us by reason. What the exact nature of that law is, Utilitarian, Deontological or even Hypermodern, I couldn't tell you - that's open for debate - but my intuition strongly lies in the camp that there really is some kind of law about the way human morality should be, and there are clearly things which offend that law - such as murdering innocent people.

What you are arguing for is total relativism, but I'm not sure I find too feasable. For instance, if it were really the case that "no opinion is more valid then another", then wouldn't it also be the case that the statement: " no opinion is more valid then another" also is just an opinion, no more valid then the opinion "some statements are more valid then others?"

Haha I just looked that up.

The sad thing is that in moral philosophy, almost every paper involves the Nazi's in some way.

You do Mother Teresa for a good person and Adolf Hitler for a bad person. Those are just the standard accepted pure good and evil, really you aren't even referring to either of them, it's just convention.

So if I write a paper on how everyone should maximize utility in all cases, when I want to demonstrate, I would say "Mother Teresa clearly maximized utility in her life by X, Y and Z. On the other hand Adolf Hitler did not due to A, B and C."

You just took this to a level that is way above this board's level of argument, my kind sir.

But I also think you're stretching just a little in the ending paragraph, but I'll agree with you just to end this before someone warns me.

DDR and ITG both has it's advantages and disadvantages.

DDR is original. I personally like the J-pop songs it has, and I'm used to it.

ITG is a copy of DDR, but the songs flow better, and the steps are better. I've never actually played ITG, but I do have the stepmania skin and stuff so basically my SM=ITG. The graphics are cleaner, and it looks newer. The RoXoR staff look like they go after the fans for stuff they put in the game; I saw a screenshot where ITG lists what you have (for example if you have a single digit great, it says "Single Digit Great!") which I really like. I don't see Konami putting in C-Mods either. :-P

I like ITG better than DDR just because it's newer and different. DDR mixes are just the same stuff thrown in a blender and reassembled.
