I've played at the arcade once and I loved it! I sucked so bad at the arcade, since I'm used to playing at home, that I couldn't even play on heavy. The arcade is way better. The only thing is when I'm home, I don't have to pay another dollar every time a play.

The home version rules since you choose your own kind of mat, setting, etc. It sucks when you want to play one of the arcade-only songs, though, like Paranoia Survivor Max or Sakura, etc. But I guess that's why there's stepmania.
Then again the arcade stinks when it's broken, like an arrow that sticks and you have to wait 5 secs. for it to pop up again.
Anyway, they're about even in their own ways.

i like playing the arcade pad better because i like it alot more, but the home dance mat is almost easier. the only major difference is the mat @ the arcade doesnt slip, and the home ones slip on the carpet E4.gif

Long live the arcade!!!!! Why is this even a debate when the only reason that home is better will be when EX2 and UM3 come later this year. E4.gif

Why would home be better than the arcade when Extreme 2 and Ultramix 3 come out? There may be new songs, but I think the arcade experience is what makes the arcade better, not really the choice of songs.

Three questions:

Just wondering what the size of the arcade pad is compared to the red octane ignition 2.0?

Also are the arrows on the ignition sunken like the arcade?

Lastly, are how far are the arrows sunken at the arcade?

I think both, because you get better at home and you show off at the arcade.

The arcade is by far the best. You can hear your feet hit the pads. And, you can't get the flashing lights at home. But, you can get the loud bass at home though. I suppose playing at home would be allright if you had a nice metal pad.

I prefer the pad I have at home. I made a custom one with one of the original crappy mats and wood. It works a LOT better than I'd predicted it to and you don't have to press the arrow hard at all to make it work. Also, with some tape, you can tell if you're on the arrow by the feeling of what you are stepping on.

Even though I prefer playing on my own pad , I'd have to say I'd rather goto the arcade and play. It's just more fun to be there. I don't need to explain it, you guys know what I mean. E13.gif

Based on that, the arcade's better. It's a lot more fun showing off in front of your friends (or strangers) than practicing by yourself.

I play mainly at home and i have played at the arcade once and at first i failed a standard song because i didnt want to embaress my self because i couldnt get used to the pad but then i kept playing and it got really fun and it was easy and i was addicted to the sound it makes when the steps go with the ryhthym of the song there is nothing cooler than that. But that was the only time and i hope that one of the other bowling alleys near me will get it so then i will go all the time. But until im sixteen i guess im just gonna be playing at home for now until i go back to there again.

Im gonna buy an afterburner from recoctane now that im thinking about it.

Try the furniture-bar technique. I have a dresser thats just an inch at most under bar height, and it works well at serving as a bar. Just hurts after a while.

Id say arcade if the one I went to had better sensors. Freezes are very difficult, and on the right side impossible if youre under 150 lbs. I lost a few games to oni because of freezes = (

I prefer home mainly because of my pad. Had it for 7 months or so, and its still sensitive enough to be set off by a finger push. Seeing as Ive Max 300'd it a crapload of times, used it as a bedside table and folded it once or twice(I really didnt want to, but didnt have a choice at the moment), Id say thats pretty good. Using socks, It could be the pad or the way I step, but you still hear each step clearly almost as though it were an arcade pad.

Now to answer this guys questions...

Id say the size is pretty much the same. I dont have the measurements or anything, but it wasnt a hard change at all to go from my ignition 2.0 to the arcade.

The arrows are in fact raised on the ignition 2.0. This is excellent especially in ITG if your too lazy to do hands- I can have my feet diagonaly on the arrows and do a four panel freeze set.

How far the arrows are recessed may depend on the arcade. Replacement panels often arent as thick as the regular ones and can lessen the hieght considerably. Id say the norm should be something like at most a fourth of an inch to half an inch.

Hope that helps. I dont think this is really the best thread to ask those questions anyway.
