I have a question that's been on my mind...ok so I won't go to college for another year but I've been wondering if they allow DDR in college dorms in general. I know it may vary from college to college or dorm to dorm but I don't wanna spend my money on the nearest DDR machine everytime I wanna play in college cause I'd rather be playing my DDR imports on my modded PS2 on my Cobalt Flux...I'm that hardcore.

I ask this because when I play upstairs my dad says it sounds like migrating elephants, and I'm thinking colleges won't allow things like this because they cause a disturbance...which brings me to another question, if not in college dorms, what about apartments?

hmmm. Depends on what type of apartment or dorm it is.... And also what type of flooring the material the building has...

Your house is probably a newer residential grade building with 6 inch wooden floor joists. This sort of construction is not allowed (or even economical) for commercial structures like dorms. A commercial building has construction which far exceeds a residential sturcture. The dorm will have either a concrete floor, or a steel frame. Both will have a crawlspace between adjacent floors for wiring plumbing and HVAC. There is absolutely no way the people below you can hear you in this type of a structure, even if you jump from the top bunk. The only problem you might have is the volume of the music. Some apartments are a different story, especially if they are cheaper/smaller units they are allowed to use the residential standard. Look for a concrete floor with a 2 foot crawlspace between floors (you can tell from the outside of the building how far apart the floors are). Of course your best bet will be to rent a small house E15.gif then you can do whatever you want.

thanks...yeah I understood that. I'll keep in mind to look for a dorm with those specifications...I'll have to ask the college about that when I pick dorms. Then again I'd love to rent a house so I can play DDR as loud as I want as long as I want and nobody could do anything...

come to think of it, may the noise could be from the fact that my tv and ps2 are in my laft...above the computer room, and on the ceiling of that room is a chandelier...so my dad always tells me to put my pad in the side of the room, partially in the hallway so the vibrations won't make the laft floor a drum head...

Anyway I got my ACT scores yesterday, got a 31...

COLLEGE HERE I COME!!!

I'm going to a dorm next semister so I can tell you this. Check with your roommates first. Most dorms really dont have enough room for a floor pad. riiight.gif even the common rooms are cramped. so you should check before hand.

Congrats, if you got that score with the writing portion then you've done particularly well for yourself.

I'd say theft and damages should concern you, too. No one will attempt to steal a cobalt flux, of course, but some drunken dorm mates might do some stupid things to it if you leave it out in the open. Additionally, someone might steal your ps2 if you leave it hooked up to the dorm tv or something like that. If you keep everything in your room, then I guess you'll only have to worry about your roomate. Make sure to share with them, so they don't steal or ruin your stuff out of jealousy.

Come to think of it, DDR is pretty noisy... Im thinkin they wouldn't let you cause it would disturb others.

I brought DDR with me for one of my semesters when I had a roommate and it went all right. I lived on the fourth floor and nobody ever biched at me for it (then again, I don't know if anybody lived below me). Lots of people bring guitars and stuff, so DDR probably won't be too big of a deal as far as noice is concerned. As long as you can find a place to store your pad when you aren't using it (like under your bed, against the wall, whatever). Oh, and just be respectful with your roommate about it. He/she might not be too fond of it (mine really wasn't) but you can always play when they are in class or something. You will probably be fine though.

Now, the semester that I didn't have a roommate...now that was awesome for DDR.

And since you mentioned apartments, I once brought my Ignition to my friend's apartment one night to play 5th mix and within ten minutes there were people below us knocking on their ceiling.

Psshh...They don't care if you have a room-mate that plays DDR or not...no college that I've ever heard of gives that much personal attention to their students.

Don't say that. Birmingham SUNY ( i think that's how it's spelled) has their own DDR club and everything. But I doubt any other school would be able to give you a DDR-Lovin room mate since as far as I know it's not an option on a dorm aplication. disturb.gif
