Believe me, it hasn't taken long for me to realise that soft pads are a piece of crap. Unfortunately, when I decided to order DDR I hadn't done much shopping around, as it was sort of an impulse buy.
But now that I have gotten so into it, and would be willing to bend the wallet a little, I am thinking of buying a metal pad. But I have a few concerns:
They are expensive, but still some only have a 6-month warranty? Would you find this accurate?
As well, the real reason I made this thread, is the metal very slippery? Would you have to play in shoes with a metal pad? Has anyone ever played bare-foot, or in socks on one? Frankly, they look like they could hurt if you don't handle yourself correctly on them.
Thanks. I didn't notice any similar threads, but I am sorry if this is a repeat. _________________

i dunno how flat metal pads will work with sox (i imagine they work well) but if you get a pad like the afterburner then i imagine the screws will slice ur feet up. i played on an arcade pad in sox and it sliced my feet up REALLY bad. but like i said i dunno how the rest of them will work.\

You could go the DIY route and make your own metal pad (see the "My Home Built metal ddr pad, part IV" thread). With certain designs some people play in socks just fine, but others have trouble playing in socks. with a DIY pad, it makes it easy to change or adjust anything that needs adjusting. |

Get a CF, you are covered for 6 months and no one ever really has issues with them. I love mine and I play in socks. All my scores have been A's since I got the thing. It has made me enjoy playing at home. I hated a soft pad, ugh!!! It was like a slip n slide lol. If you get a CF get a big bag of cushioned heeled Hanes, I think those are the best for playing in. No sliding or nothing even if they are right out of the dryer! I have played bare foot (a couple times) and my feet were fine. I wouldn't wanna play in shoes and scuff my pad all up. Good luck. _________________

ive never played on a store made metal pad, but i built one..
if u are somewhat are experienced in building in general, and arent frusterated easily, want to save roughly $50, and dont really need it NOW, then i highly recommend it
its really fun IMO, and u learn stuff, plus in the end, u can customise it to whatever u want really..
my friend just said that hed just want to spend the extra $50 and get it NOW, but thats just him..
ive had no problem playing in socks, but barefoot could POSSIBLY cut u if u dont bend down the sheet metal on the sqaures...
it basically has NO SLIDE whatsoever, and ive gotten a few AAs that i normally couldnt on a soft pad
basically if u want a metal pad like NOW, and u dont know how to build, then just buy a store-made one, otherwise id recommend building it _________________

Nope, but I suggested on another forum a way to modify it so it is... If you get a raised or mod one to be raised you will being wearing shoes, not socks, as it will hurt your feet if you don't. RO sux anyways. _________________

Bolt: I have not had problems with that so I don't think he would. And I have played bare foot on occasion. _________________

hkLola: Though your sig is very beautiful, please change it before the mods rape you in the butt. Thanks.
EDIT: looks like that's been fixed already!
And I play on my CF in socks or barefoot. On ten footers or very hard nines you start to slip when playing in socks, but I spit on them (yes, it's very gross) and you get more traction. That is the only way I can A MaxX Unlimited or AA Cartoon Heroes. _________________

I'm fed up with the way my ignition pads keep breaking, and I'm considering a metal pad, given the great new games coming up in the fall. Some questions:
I weigh close to 250 pounds; this is probably why the buttons on my Ignition stick after a month or two of playtime. Will I have similar durability issues with a CF?
I live in a one bedroom carpeted apartment on the third floor. 1) How easy is it to move a CF, say to put it in a closet when I'm not using it? 2) Just how noisy is a metal pad going to be for my downstairs neighbor? I've been playing for 6 months or so on an ignition with no complaints, but I'm sure a metal pad will be noiser. Is there any way to muffle the noise? |
