Since I've not seen it mentioned yet: http://www.konami.com/gs/beatmania/
Looks like 9th Style + a few US Licenses perhaps?
This might also mean cheaper IIDX controllers for importers (Hi) since the $80 they charge in Japan might be a little steep for bringing a new concept to the public like this..

I'm sure if it was sold for profit, Konami would clamp down on it (I'm sure it's a matter of time before they clamp down on ITG).[/quote]

The only concern I have at the minute as I heard from a friend, is that there's always the possibility that they might go overboard on the introducing beginners angle and give it a "stepmania-like" great-window. _________________

Amazing. Just about everybody thought this wasn't possible including me. And they decided to use the 9th style interface too. Stars are actually back. And maybe by some chance, I and many others can get a second controller for a hopefully cheaper price and play doubles.
So, I hope the songlist has a little of everything from 1st to 9th style at least, maybe some 10th or 11th style songs too. But they better have a really good begginer mode for the beginners. And then theres the possiblity of American licenses. And I don't want a bunch of easy songs either. But if the songlist blows, I might go for the extra controller anyway.
Calling it just Beatmania might be apporiate.
I wonder what kind of reviews this game will get when it's released. I hope those reviewers don't whine about the difficulty and realize that IIDX takes a while to get good at. |

(Testing. Testing. 1,2,3. Is this on? Okay.) *ahem*
This is perhaps one of the greatest moments in US Bemani we have ever been a witness to. Konami has finally allowed us American fans to take part in what is known far and wide in Japan as Beatmania IIDX. However, while this thread is still on its first page, I would like to begin with a few...guidelines, entitled:
BEFORE ANYONE GETS STUPID ABOUT IT
(1) This is the first incarnation of beatmania ever to appear on the US PS2, as well as the first incarnation of beatmania IIDX to ever leave the home country of Japan. And as such, Konami is probably a bit wary about overloading the game with a massive songlist like the more recent styles of Japan's IIDX. So a song list with 50+ is an EXCELLENT starting point for the American series. More may be "better" to some of you, but as a test run, over 50 is more than enough.
(2) This mix contains an interface that resembles IIDX 9th Style, which is damned impressive. However, this does NOT mean that beatmania US will be exactly the same as beatmania IIDX 9th Style, nor will it probably share a large amount of songs with beatmania IIDX 9th Style. It will mostly likely contain a large grouping of songs spanning the various arcade and home versions between 3rd Style and 9th Style. So if you don't see your favorite song on this mix, don't assume that it won't appear EVER AGAIN, especially if the game's successful enough for a sequel.
(3) This is not a Japanese sequel. This will NOT be 10th Style or 11th Style. Most of you know this, but it needs to be said regardless.
(4) Calling the game simply beatmania without the IIDX attachment is a good marketing tool. With this being the first game in the US to carry the NAME "beatmania", there's really no reason to tack on another label at the end. Add the fact that "IIDX" stands for "2 Deluxe". The game is not a sequel to anything, and "DX" is a bit confusing to those not in the know. Besides, would you have wanted a game called "HipHopMania IIDX"?!?!?
(5) If the game is a bit less challenging than the Japanese releases you're used to, don't fret. Most of America is not used to the game, and it can get incredibly hard for beginners. (Believe me, I know...) And the game needs to be accessable to everyone, so its not that big of a sacrifice.
(6) The most this release will have on DDR will probably be cross-promotion songs. By NO stretch of the imagination should we be thinking about a new DDR arcade mix because of this. (How someone could REACH THAT FAR is beyond me...)
(7) Finally, this is something we, as a community, have been begging for for years. Now that it has finally happened, lets not scare potential sequels away! Lets be SUPPORTIVE of this franchise, even if its the American iteration!!!
Thank you for your time, and now I'll stop being a hard-ass. Lets get back to oogling over this game! _________________

Mullet: About the songlist, that's what I said over in the EX2 thread. DDR 1st mix only had what, 30~ songs? and didn't Donkey Konga 1 only have like 20~ songs? so beatmania having 50 songs is indeed a damn good start.
My only concern is how much they'll want for it. I know Nintendo is charging $50 for the DK bundle, if memory serves. hopefully beatmania (boy this is going to be confusing calling it that without the IIDX suffix LOL) won't cost more than $50...
On a related note, damn them I'll have to update my FAQ... anyone know a good free HTML editing tool? (PM me, so as not to steer this topic off-track. )

Your typical DDR bundles cost about $60-$65 a piece, depending on what system you're buying them for. So if the upcoming beatmania bundle is around that price range, I wouldn't be too surprised. If it goes ABOVE that, however, there might be a problem. _________________
